Don't forget to try the gras hoppers, yes they are on the menu and quite good. The drinks were good, especially the margaritas. Everything comes with a generous portion of aguacate and the frijoles were amazing. The salsas were delicious but unfortunately not spicy, although others might think differently. Gotta try this place if you are staying in the Coyoacán.

I walked to the tranquil downtown Coyoacan area and saw La Casa de los Tacos was open, so porque no? The girls were so nice. And they were open with a few diners inside. It was kind of empty and chill, but the ambiance was festive and exciting due to the music and activities going on in el parque nearby. I was so hungry I wanted to eat everything, so I got the tacos con chapulines (HELLA FIRE) and a side plate of arroz con platanos. I also ordered a beer, but that never came out. Their salsas are hella good. Especially that insane truffle one, who knew! It was SO good. The pan fried platanos were so delicious and the perfect little craving I needed for a sweet treat afterwards. They accept cash and card, and make sure you tip you extranjero/turista!

The entrance was beautifully…read moredecorated for Día de Los Muertos, there were tons of steps to go up though (so be mindful of that) , this is a traditional Mexican restaurant and it feels like you're arriving at someone's home, as you make your way to your table, you pass by the kitchen area and a souvenir shop, super super cute!! The service was great, they were very attentive and several waiters/waitresses take care of your table so they're quick to clean up your plates and such which I appreciated, you had space for your next dish. When we arrived, we happen to get there while a show was happening, there was music and singing and just all very colorful, it was loud and fun! The menu had a good variety of food, and the food itself was pretty tasty. We started with some appetizers and we got the huaraches and those were omgggggg finger licking goodness! Those are a must! We also had the barbacoa and it was good but kinda dry, not my fav here, I'd prob skip it. We had the chicken soup and that was great! The guacamole was kinda uneventful and was missing salt and spice. To drink we ordered 2 pitchers of aguas frescas, tamarind was one and it was nice and refreshing but the real winner was the Horchata, that one was made just right! For dessert we had the helado de mamey and that was really really good! Price range is on the higher end BUT with the show and the service you can see why. I'd def recommend visiting this place at least once!

Every time we're in Mexico City, we HAVE to stop here - it's the law :) On this last visit to see my family, it was also my husband's first time to Mexico City so I was really excited for him. They have shows on weekends so make a reservation in advance to get a good table near the stage. On this last visit we were a group of 15. Their star dish is the barbacoa. It's not to everyone's liking but it's worth a try. Their carnitas are also delicious. They had a 13 piece mariachi band this night, and I LOVE mariachi. They also had a play going on w/the mariachi band. This restaurant experience was a highlight for my husband. They have an indoor playground for the kids. The drinks were good. they also have cafe de la olla (Mexican coffee). Lots of foreigners come here as well. On this night, there were folks visiting from Switzerland and other countries. As you'll notice, if it's your first time here and you're coming from abroad or celebrating something special, it's tradition to pass a napkin to the MC, with a note of what you're celebrating etc. and they'll announce it. My husband didn't know this tradition and my mom wrote a note for him ;) So he was super surprised when the MC called him by name in front of the whole restaurant and they welcomed him to Mexico City :) I was pleasantly surprised to see the staff were very considerate and conscious of covid-19. All of the servers were wearing masks and a face shield. All of the non-server staff had masks. You don't see the shield anymore in the US but was so happy to see it here. I felt a lot safer. Also throughout the restaurant, you'll see a wall of old photos of the owners with famous Mexican celebrities who have dined at this restaurant. If you're in Mexico City, definitely stop here!
