I have been coming to this bubble tea for quite time, specially with my husband which has to study lately a lot. It's a great place if you need to spend some hours working/studying while having a drink and then getting some snacks. Bubble tea is good, not the best I ever had, but is ok. During the week days they have happy hour until 6pm where the large tap Milk Tea it only cost $2. The service is good, they are very friendly. But specially there is a guy named Michael who is THE BEST barista I ever met. He remembers absolutely everything, and once he knows your tastes he will give you ideas on other flavors for you to try (and is always a success!), plus he always will give you his better smile. I love to find people like this (although I didn't see him in a long time)! There are lots of tables but depends on the day it can be filled quickly, specially in winter during evenings. And maybe mornings during the weekends. They just have 3 little tables outside, which I would say they are almost always taken. There are two only things that I absolutely hate about this place: 1) The bathroom. Since I started going here (maybe like a year or so) it's been always dirty, but in the last months specially I think it's getting even worse. Unless that I really need to go I try to avoid going. In general this isn't the cleanest place, but the bathroom is pretty bad. 2) Although I LOVE the fried tofu here I am not going to order anymore... I am vegetarian, and the last 5 times (at least), I have found little chicken pieces. And of course this FREAKS me out. If you are not vegetarian, probably you wouldn't mind that, but if you are... Uh... NOOOOOOOooooooooooooooo I've visited just about every Boba shop in town. The ingredients here are total junk and the drinks are prepared overly sweet. I stopped ordering the food here a long time ago ... it's cheap for a reason and gives me horrible diarrhea. Don't bother walking in without checking the hours on the door, or you will be rudely turned away if you're too early like a pleb that can't read. This location is very close for people who live near UCSD. It's also right by the freeway, so it'll be easy to get to. My initial impression is that people sit there and study. There really isn't much else in terms of noise but it does feel very....unfurnished. For example, I don't remember seeing large tables or outlets. It's like they want you to go (as opposed to sitting down and work on your labtop). The drinks have a nice special--after 10PM the second drink is 1/2 off. I don't see that at any other locations. The drinks are made pretty well, as expected in terms of flavor in comparison to the other locations. The chicken wings were VERY good, as it was well spiced and fresh. I primarily go here to munch on something while i work on my laptop. They have a good selection of munchies and drinks. Most of their drinks are a tad sweet and their crispy chicken, them popular tasty chicken pieces, can be really juicy one day and very dry another day. As i said, I primarily go here to use their free wi-fi but in the last couple months their service has not be reliable at all. I go there, set up my laptop expecting to get some work done but their internet is down. This has happened more than once. Two stars for unreliable service. They should get on that. I would give it 3.5 stars if I could. Their drinks are pretty amazing, but sometimes the thai tea tasted watery and.... You get EXACTLY what you order... which is annoying sometimes since I assume my tea will come hot. Everytime I go I have to remember to say "make it hot" or else I will get ice cold tea. Remember... Exactly! Once I said "make it warm", thinking you can only get it hot or cold... and I got a lukewarm tea. FUUUUuuuuuu...... I want to go in one day and order a 104.5 degree F thai tea with 23 boba pieces and 5% H2O... you'd think everyone is a engineer here they make your drinks so exact. I spent a couple hours here tonight and tried a few different things. It's not as good as some of my favorite places in LA but it's got a nice atmosphere and good prices. The taro snow bubble was decent and Thai snow bubble wasn't quite as sweet as I would prefer, but the hot mango tea was magnificent. Also notable was the crispy dumpling. Take your white friends and trick then into trying a 3. My bud about cried for 10 minutes. Study spot. Outlets are at a premium and the ones by the front left don't work. There is usually a power surge with multi plug capabilities... Crispy Chix and milk tea are great. Calamari in a bag is good as well for a no-frills snack shop. The crowd is mostly students. The happy hour prices are solid. My only complaint is their signature crispy chicken can sometimes be more fried batter than chicken. On a good day, the batch is yummy and satisfying. Ever since I moved to La Jolla, I've been too cheap to sign up for internet so I've been going over to the TapEx across the street from my place for internet. The best part of this place is that its open late. Seriously, it's a huge blessing for students who need a nice place with internet to study late, especially since all the coffee shops seem to close at 9pm. Also, the internet is pretty fast and can usually handle everything I need to do faster than Starbucks internet, which crawls by slowly. I've only tried a few of the food items, they were decent and good for brain food while studying. My only qualm is the drinks are so sweet that they give me a stomach ache. I could ask for completely unsweetened green tea, but the milk tea and snow bubbles call to me. I always seem to regret it afterwards though. No frills boba for the residents living nearby. Can't say I would drive back here if I moved away from La Jolla, but the drinks get the job done when the boba milk tea crave hits. I recommend the Triton milk tea; I was skeptical at first but I enjoyed it. This location is pretty solid considering how little competition is nearby. Never had a problem at this branch, with maybe the exception of the parking lot being a bit congested during lunch hour, but that's expected as the parking lot spaces are shared by all the businesses in this plaza. There's Mexican food next door, UPS store, Vons, and many more. It's a nice are to stop by for a quick bite or to pick something up to take back home/work. Prices seem to be the same as the other branches and of course they have their own little spin on some items... such as Vietnamese egg rolls, which I'm pretty sure aren't available at all other Tapioca locations. I get tapioca express at least twice a day. I live for that stuff. BUT, it would be great if they had the little punch cards where you can get a free drink after each 10 or 15 that you buy. I love the staff here. They are always so nice and friendly. The drinks are good and tasty. I really like how the chicken here isn't too oily, yet still superduper good. Another thing is that instead of ordering the full regular crispy chicken, you can order a half size, so it comes in a cute small paper bag. There are a lot of students that come to this Tapioca Express with their laptops to use the wifi, do homework or just hang out with friends. I've been to this location a few times and only when I am doing some grocery shopping for work at the Vons next door. That's usually when I remember that Tap Ex is just a few doors down. The last time I came here I actually remembered to check in and snap a photo. It was nice to not see a huge line but that could have been because it was right when it opened. I imagine that this place sees more business from the college students in the late afternoons and evenings. As with other Tap Ex locations, menu has lots of variety and boba balls are done A-OK. Service was friendly when I was there. I would not hesitate to come back here whenever I am in the area for work. As a previous poster pointed out though, the chairs look a little suspect so I would not recommend sitting down unless you absolutely have to. I suggest to them that they switch out their fabric armchairs and get something wooden and easy to clean. Enjoy! read more

Out of all the Tapioca Express's I've been to, this one has the best boba with the right texture and chewiness. I'm a fan of the happy hour here (M-F before 6 PM). I always order the milk tea with boba and small crispy chicken which comes up to only about $4 total. I love it when the crispy chicken comes out piping hot, extra crunchy and almost overflowing out of the bag. What can change are some of the girl cashiers that I've encountered here. She also did not apologize and blamed it on the register itself...yea sure OK. And then my Hong Kong milk tea was watered down and flavorless when I got it.
