We found some beautiful turquoise and silver pieces here during our visit to Taos. Rick was friendly and knowledgeable.

He purchases each piece individually, only acquires them if they are in perfect condition, and then painstakingly restores each one to its original glory. Dr. Faurie's collection reflects the cultured taste of an old-world French gentleman from Lyon's excitement about the world, with the occasional hint of a tongue-in-cheek randy flair: sprinkled among the delicately carved stone statues and carefully polished silver items are a collection of antique erotic books, Victorian-era nutcrackers shaped like naked legs, and other items that will delight any antiquarian's appreciation of the taboos of yore. This place is a gem, and Dr. Faurie himself a treasure. His discomfort with technology means the merchandise is not online, so the entirety of his shop is an untapped reservoir of amazing items, and it is not entirely clear how long it will persist whenever his own efforts cease. It doesn't get any better than this. Come and see it now, while you still can, but just understand that his insurance does not allow visitors to photograph his amazing items for fear of attracting future theft.

The owners are delightful and willing to deal, and they are well informed and like to talk about their treasures. What I did buy--a beautiful page in hand-detailed Arabic script with decorative multicolor lettering. I found out later it was a page of the Koran--but it was a gift for my daughter who picked it out herself and it was inexpensive, and beautiful. She keeps it, but is afraid to put it out lest it offend someone. What I did not buy-- A copy of a Munzer map of northern Europe, taken from the Nuremberg Chronicles, circa 1493, one of the earliest maps of Europe. It was completely fascinating and a bargain, but it was the fall my first daughter was going to college and in that perspective seemed much more expensive. I couldn't get it out of my mind and called back, but it was sold. I missed an opportunity, but this shop is a place full of ancient and old treasures and wonders for anyone who goes in.

While I do not care for shopping or for art (per se), I do like birds quite a bit and old maps are friggin' awesome. Guess what? This place specializes in those things. BOOM! Awesome stuff to peruse, a lot of prints from all over the world, through a long list of years. There were maps dating back to the mid-1800s and I'm sure you could find more if you looked. Lots of prints on all sorts of subjects.

Not sure if this…read morejewelry store existed back then; I sure was happy to stumble upon it (it's kind of hard to miss as it's located in the center of shopping district in the charming town of Taos). I had been looking for a pair of silver earrings for a while and the moment I stepped in to this shop, I knew I would walk away with something I had been yearning for. The store is a good size. To the left is what's made locally in Taos. And to the right, all everything else (at least that is what the lady upfront who was manning the shop's register said. By the way, she was welcoming and courteous.) I couldn't help telling her that this was by far the best jewelry shop I had stepped into in Taos to which she proudly agreed with. Her confidence in what the shop carries and sells was manifested in her reply. Everything is beautifully placed inside the glass showcase on both sides. The store has done an excellent job by displaying the pieces in the most orderly way as possible. I quickly glanced at the left side first. I then proceeded to where the lady was standing (the right side). And then a pair of silver Navajo earrings caught my attention. I didn't know they were Navajo until the kind lady told me so. The earrings were exactly the right size (I was looking for something small/smaller.) I asked the lady to take them out of the glass case so I could take a closer look. She, of course, generously allowed me to put them on my ears. At that moment, I knew they were it!! And to my surprise, the price was barely $30+? Really? These non-machine-made pieces are only that much? No more wasting of my time so I quickly transacted to purchase them. A little solo getaway to Taos led me to these beautiful earrings was a treat. If you are in Taos and are looking for beautiful and quality pieces of jewelry, waste no time and go here. You are guaranteed to find what you are looking for.
