This establishment is your typical souvenir shop with a wide variety of (overpriced) merchandise. There is also a big section of moccasin shoes. It's a cool for knick knacks and if you are shopping for souvenirs to take back home to friends and loved ones, but still nonetheless overpriced. I went here today to buy a birthday present for my daughter's friends' birthday with my daughter and wife and was very disappointed with the rude customer service. We decided to go to Twirl instead where they are always very nice and welcoming. The products there are of a much higher quality and the new manager is awesome. Shopping in the town square of Taos is lots of fun. There's so many souvenir shops with all things Taos. I recommend shopping in the square, at least to visit a few shops (after a while they all begin to have the same, same, same.) This shop has one of the largest selections of merchandise in the square and the most curious staff member. I'd recommend starting your souvenir shopping here as the selection is one of the best in the area. Looking back I have to chuckle (but at the time I was irritated beyond measure). We started our square shopping here as our first stop. After about 10 minutes we were approached and asked to leave as the shopkeeper was going to take a "30 minute" lunch (and the store re-opened about 3 hours later). When we circled back around to this spot after completing our other shopping we bought a few things here we didn't run across in other stores. I really liked their selection of Taos and New Mexican style tiles more than any other store we visited. (They make neat colorful coasters). I see a lot of negative reviews for this store but I have never experienced anything less than helpful, laid back people in the store. Their selection of tourist goodies is pretty varied and reasonably priced compared to other stores in the plaza. It's the first store I go to for my T-shirts, magnets and window stickers relating to Taos and New Mexico. It's interesting to note that most of the complaints come from people with large parties, some of whom are children and pets, which might be, by their nature, a bit more difficult to wait on. As for restrooms, every store on the plaza has the policy of referring guests to the public facilities. If they aren't open I go to a coffee place, sit down, buy a drink and use the restroom available for customers. read more

Unbelievable!! I spent over $180 in this store and I needed to use the restroom, the lady that work at the front with curly grayish hair told me that I could use the public restroom down the street. When we went there it has a sign that as of November 13th the restrooms would be closed to the public So we went back and told her and she STILL wouldn't let me use the restroom because she said they don't have a restroom!! Do NOT spend a dime in this store!!!! Owner is EXTREMELY rude! Instead of speaking to me in a civilized tone, she was accusatory, demeaning, and rude! Going so far as to accuse me of fraud because I gave her my joint credit card (has husband's name on card) WITH my driver's license that has the same name! I have never in my 21 years of marriage run into a situation like this! There are plenty of neat shops on the square with very nice owners/employees. After almost a month of visiting/living in Taos, I started shopping for souvenirs to bring back to NYC. The pinon incense and adobe home burner was high up on my list, so I figured this store would be a good bett. At the check out was a very nice woman, Lori, with whom I got into conversation with. As I am a weary New-Yorker, hoping to retire here in the next 5 years, I was curious on her take of Taos. Very good selection of items. Customer service is awful. The lady with the crazy hair acts like you are unconvincing her if you ask a question. For a business that relies solely on tourism you would think that they would be happy to gave you come in. I don't know maybe even mingle and talk to the customers. We live about 5 hours from Taos and visit numerous times a year, we have been purchasing Minnetonka slippers from this store for well over 15 years, in June we purchased 2 new pair ($152.00) and within a week mine had come unsewn and within a few more weeks my husbands insole had wrinkled where the ball of his foot fits, so we decided we must have gotten seconds and had saved both of our receipts (credit card and store register receipt) The store policy clearly states no refunds, exchanges only. So the next time we visited Taos 3 months later, having not worn the slippers after the first few weeks, we tried to exchange them for the exact same shoe, receipts in hand,and the Taos Merchantile employee was very rude, and would not even consider exchanging them, claiming "they couldn't do this for everybody" she said she called the general manager and he said NO! I ask her to honor their policy that is plastered all around the register area "Exchanges only" and told her that Minnetonka would more than likely give them credit on defective merchandise, she became more agitated and rude and handed me back my receipts and the shoes! We were treated like crap, totally disrespected and I won't step foot in this store again, ever!!!! I also will be contacting Minnetonka regarding this vendor that represents their product as soon as I finish this review! Update: After contacting Minnetonka headquarters, they state that Taos Merchantile should have definitely exchanged our shoes, they would have gotten credit and ask me to give them another chance to exchange the items, per the manager and if things didn't go well to call the customer service number (which they gave me) that deals strictly with how their vendors represent their product so I tried that, and come to find out the person that treated us this way was the manager, I spoke with her again (Lori) and told her what Minnetonka had said and she said " Good, maybe they can help you, have a nice day and hung up on me! UPDATE: Minnetonka replaced both pair of our moccasins free of charge! read more

My family of five and a small dog, walked into the store on Sunday, 8/16/15 and had three incidents to make it a shopping experience to warrant a with a one star rating. There were two lady's working there. One of them, who appeared to be more senior was the issue. When we first walked in, I was carrying the dog, and asked if pets are okay, the response "as long as you carry the pet". The delivery of the response was rough. The second, the kids were looking at the toys, "kids, don't play with toys!". Again, not very well delivered, and the kids were looking at the toys, and I was right there with them, carrying the dog. Finally, and I should have thought better than to proceed with my purchase, my wife asked the lady at the counter, if they had a garbage can to dispose of a small (4oz cup). The nice lady reached out to accept the cup when Godzilla interjected and said, "there is a garbage can outside". My wife disposed of it and came back in to tell me she was going to the next store. I , without thinking checked out instead of walking out at that point. That was my mistake. Maybe she wasn't the owner, but she was not a good example of customer service. We had much better experiences a the store before them, and the two store after them. The man at the next store was really, really nice, and we bought more stuff there. This is just for the folks visiting in the future. Store is welcome to explain but not expected. read more
