As you step through the iconic circular doorway, you would be transported back to the set of Monkey! He knew every magic trick under the sun, to tease the gods and everyone and have some fun! As you sit down, they'll bring out the plastic plate for your entree, you know the ones, bought at the reject shop for a cool $2, with the red chinese mosaic motif. You'll give each other a smile and a nod as a fork and spoon are set beside you, acknowledging your non-chinesey-ness. Then you'll peruse the menu. All your old favourites are there: - The mixed entree (spring rolls, fish cakes, satay chicken skewers, prawn cutlets) - Sweet and sour pork - Mongolian lamb - Kung pao chicken - Fried rice (standard or special) - And the so-bad-its-good fried icecream When it comes out you'll grin like a kid as you see the mongolian piled high with onions and that standard fried rice, peppered with the odd bacon bit and slightly yellow tinged rice from the frying oil. All in all this place does what it's selling pretty well. Westernised chinese dishes, that are the same as what you had in the 80s-90s as a kid before the proliferation of Thai food. My friends had a couple of words for it back then. Chinese (pronounced chin-aye-zee) and Tommy (after the smartest asian kid at our school). Both are apt here :)

I officially announce this as my favourite restaurant and go to Chinese Restaurant in Beverly…read moreHills. Hiding away from the bustling streets of Beverly Hills this crouching tiger serves some of the best unique dishes that you won't generally find in normal restaurants. What I hate about Chinese food is they don't have very attractive names and most of the times they're just a straight translation from Chinese .. So I'm going to do my best to make the dishes names sounds as awesome as it tastes. We ordered wombok served in a chef's special broth, salt smoked chicken with ground ginger dressing, deep fried spatchcock and deep fried white bait with crumbed seasoned duck yolk. Oh and plain steamed rice of course! Did that tickle your palate or salivate your mouth or what? Words is hard to give this place and their food justice but the wombok was cook just right where it's not too soft as it still has a crunch when you bite on it. The special broth is thick so with each bite you get a substantial amount of flavour without needing to actually drink the broth. Which of course I drank it as if it was normal soup, just couldn't resist! Now the chicken, it's free range which makes the meat relatively chewy, and not sure how they did it, but the skin was crunchy like jellyfish if anyone has tried that before. Full of flavour and that ginger dressing was just the best compliment to the smoke salt flavour. D-E-V-I-N-E. Normally you would have white bait/squid as salt and pepper as most of you foodies would know, but using seasoned duck yolk (the ones in mooncakes) adds a different perspective all together. The first few bites are quite tasteless, but then it grows on you. The trick is to eat the white bait with pieces of the crumbed yolk and there you have a party on your palate dance floor. A meal at a Chinese restaurant isn't finished until you have the fruits. Usually (95% of the time) fruits at restaurants are tasteless, but man this place does everything so well, the fruits were SO SWEET! Can't wait for round 2!

Really wanted some asian food and found this place on Yelp with 2 5 star reviews. Have to admit that the last 2 reviewers for this place were spot on with their 5 star reviews ! The Restaurant itself is pretty small yet cosy enough to dine comfortably . All the food we had ordered from the entrée, to the mains and to the deep fried ice cream were outstandingly delicious! My mum is a pretty hard lady to please seeing as she was once a chef before we moved to Australia, she mentioned to the owner that it was the best Chinese food she's had a verly long time, she had the sweet and sour duck and she said it was melt in the mouth goodness !! At the end of our feast all of our plates were spotless.. thats got to mean more than that everyone was hungry lol!! Also another note to owner or possibly the manager of the Chinese Restaurant was very humble and a funny guy, joking around and being as helpful as can be . Found a favourite Chinese Restaurant mid week up north coast and now I've found my all time Favourite Chinese restaurant in the area i live in !! Was very impressed and will definately be back and recommending tohs place to friends and family !!!
