This is reliable place to get a tasty laksa, hainanese chicken or any other noodle or rice dish you can think of. The menu is huge but meals come out super quick (usually when they are ready so not everything comes together). The laksa is my favourite. It's not fine dining but it's not meant to be. The Seafood Wanton Laksa is my favorite dish here. The food has never disappoint and the price is reasonable too. Service is prompt too and whenever you order over the phone for a pick up, the pick up time is always in 5mins! There's unlimited Chinese tea available when dining in. Glad to find another cheap eats in the Gong. Ordered five dishes. Food came out very quickly. Service is second to none. The waiter excused himself to help the old lady very impressed. The winner is their King Prawn Crispy Noodle followed by Rainbow beef and then Fried Fish with Singaporean Sauce. The Taiwanese style chicken is not that authentic. This place is an institution. My family eat here heaps. As long as you are not looking for more than laminex tables and basic ambience as far as decor goes this is a great restaurant. The menu is huge and everything is great value for money. The food is basically Chinese with some Malay thrown in even though the folks that run it are Vietnamese. The Laksa's are a stand out as is Sandon Chicken and sizzling Rainbow Beef. We always have the steamed Gai Lan with oyster sauce and although not vegetarian we love the Salt and Spicey Tofu ( all crisp on the out side and silky smooth in the middle. They serve everything from a simple Wonton soup to Duck dishes. The service is down to business and some of the waiters don't speak very good English but this doesn't matter as the service is super fast so if you want to be in and out in half an hour it can be done. This place seems to be always open as we have eaten there many times at odd hours that have been between service at other restaurants. You can buy wine across the road at Hotel Illawarra as it is byo. We will continue to go anytime we want a good, inexpensive meal with no fuss. read more
