As you step through the iconic circular doorway, you would be transported back to the set of Monkey! He knew every magic trick under the sun, to tease the gods and everyone and have some fun! As you sit down, they'll bring out the plastic plate for your entree, you know the ones, bought at the reject shop for a cool $2, with the red chinese mosaic motif. You'll give each other a smile and a nod as a fork and spoon are set beside you, acknowledging your non-chinesey-ness. Then you'll peruse the menu. All your old favourites are there: - The mixed entree (spring rolls, fish cakes, satay chicken skewers, prawn cutlets) - Sweet and sour pork - Mongolian lamb - Kung pao chicken - Fried rice (standard or special) - And the so-bad-its-good fried icecream When it comes out you'll grin like a kid as you see the mongolian piled high with onions and that standard fried rice, peppered with the odd bacon bit and slightly yellow tinged rice from the frying oil. All in all this place does what it's selling pretty well. Westernised chinese dishes, that are the same as what you had in the 80s-90s as a kid before the proliferation of Thai food. My friends had a couple of words for it back then. Chinese (pronounced chin-aye-zee) and Tommy (after the smartest asian kid at our school). Both are apt here :)

This place is just organised chaos in Chinese seafood restaurant form. When we arrived we spoke to…read morethe hostess informing her that we'd booked a table online. Her response was that they don't bother checking online bookings. So we had to wait for a table to be free. This left us a little lost for words. However we were prioritised. We took our seats and ordered our banquet. It took a while for the food to come out. Not surprised to be honest. The place was jam packed and there must have been at least 30 big tables. We were seated in direct line to the entrance. Normally this wouldn't be a problem but as it was winter every time the door opened we were hit with an ice cold breeze. We kept our jackets on as they could not move us anywhere else. The restaurant space is most peculiar. Long rails run along the ceiling. I could only guess what they were used for. On the main wall was a huge screen that had Chinese tv projected onto it. When it came to someone's birthday celebration a Chinese cartoon about Christmas played with happy birthday being sung over the top on repeat for several minutes. I'm still haunted by this. When the food came it did not stop. It was plate after plate of amazing Chinese seafood. The only way it could have tasted any fresher would be if we caught it from the ocean ourselves. It was a night of madness but we still enjoyed ourselves. The food was amazing and the staff were eager to please. It always looks packed so I doubt it'll be closing anytime soon. I would most definitely be coming back again.

Definitely one of my favourite yum cha places to go to. Best seafood here yum…read more Awesome dumplings with fine dough not thick. Love the prawn rice rolls absolutely delicious.
