I want to start off by saying Vinnie is AMAZING! I have had a few bad hair colorings from other stylists so I was really nervous about going to a new stylist.... But Vinnie is the best! He really understood the colors I wanted and colors I didn't like (ORANGE!) He has amazing conversation, is very honest about what you can achieve without damaging your hair and gave wonderful recommendations. I will forever come to Vinnie!! Thank you Vinnie! This is a post from right as the state is allowing salons to re-open amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Just a note- the salon is doing a great job keeping things safe- felt totally OK there today. I have been going to Lai for I think 4 years now. She is an independent stylist that works out of this salon. She has always done a great job and we have changed color more than once. But here I was, with 3 months' Covid-19 growth of salt and pepper roots that did not come close to the color I have had for a while. The first photo I'm going to post was a before picture- state rules said we had to wash our hair before coming in so it's just there and blah but the purpose of the photo is for you to see what she had to work with- salt and pepper roots with auburn hair. (You can't see my purple stripe as it was already clipped on top of my head. She did that at my request back when I first started with her.) When I got there I had no idea what to do. Lai was patient and wonderful and she made suggestions and finally we agreed to go for matching the salt and pepper still keeping my purple stripe. Everyone's hair is different but after years of auburn and red my hair gave up the color and I swear it was as if I had salt and pepper all along. I was so amazed at how she nailed it. It was a long appointment but well worth it. One thing that prompted me to go for it was seeing a photo of another client of hers who had dark brown hair and she did it perfectly with that client too. Lai is amazing!! I'm very hesitant to trust anyone with my hair as I've had numerous hairdressers that didn't know how to cut my hair or cut off 6 more inches than I wanted. I had also heard horror stories involving bleaching and coloring black hair. Hence before this I had only dyed my hair twice where the balayage never went above half way (in case I hated it and wanted to chop it all off). After researching hair salons in the area I stumbled across Tangelo and discovered Lai's instagram page (@lai.hairstylist), so I decided to make an appointment. I was not disappointed. My color came out amazing!! I have been getting non-stop compliments. Lai did an incredible job! Besides being an amazing hair stylist Lai is also incredibly sweet and easy to talk to. Sitting in the salon for ~3 hours getting a haircut and balayage felt like no time at all. Throughout the process Lai double checked, making sure we were both on the same page about color and length. When I showed her a picture of what I wanted she brought out several samples of dyed hair to get a better idea. She also showed me several alternatives that were slightly cooler or redder in tone. I have been with the absolutely best stylist, Debbie Dare, for about 3 years now, and happily followed her from another salon when she made her move to Tangelo a couple of years ago. That being said, this review is LONG overdue! Debbie is an attentive, detail oriented, fun and friendly stylist- I like to wear my hair short, but like a heavy fringe for volume and curls. I was getting awful short haircuts for way too long from stylists who just didn't listen, and was feeling like my hair goals were an unobtainable fantasy. Thank goodness I found Debbie! She LISTENED, and I am now living my best hair life! I appreciate that she consults every time- I have never received so many compliments on my hair, and I have never had a better hairstyle! The last time I visited this salon was on June 6th of 2020, when they reopened after closing for the pandemic. I have vulnerable family members, so I had been hesitant to go out at all during this, but I felt incredibly safe at the salon. There was a very limited amount of people in the salon, and everyone wore masks their entire visit. When we went to wash my hair, we both wore safety glasses, the door was propped open and there was no fans running to ensure proper ventilation, and sanitizing happened frequently and was thorough. It was perfect! I was excited to go back again last week, but unfortunately they are temporarily closed due to the change in orders. I understand, and want everyone to stay safe, but they were doing a great job (as they always do) with making the space feel safe and comfortable. I will be back again as soon as they are open! I rarely trust anyone with my hair and I have always done my own hair. But i thought I'd be responsible and that I deserved to treat myself the proper way, that i would spend a bit to do my hair at a salon to the professionals. I had recently bleached my hair about a month before I decided to go in and have someone who knows what they're doing to fix up my hair. My hair was literally 4 different shades of blonde/brown due to previous bleaching processes from the past. I scheduled an appointment about a good month after I bleached my own hair and did thorough search reviews on yelp for trustworthy salons. Reviews looked great, pictures looked great. I had my hair rest up, deep conditioned way before to prepare my hair for this adventure. I was sat down around 10:15am. Looked at my hair, asked me what my goal was for my hair. I wanted a sand blonde color. Told me that it may take about 2 sessions, which I had no issue of whatsoever if I had to come back bc I wanted my hair to be able to breathe and stay alive, of course. I was letting my hairdresser know what my hair has gone through in the past, what I used so that they can take any precaution if necessary. Didn't sound like an issue at all. Went in and started to apply the bleach into my hair. Taking the time to do each section and foiled it. My hairdresser had to refill for more bleach and it was a total of 3 times. Finally, my hair was done being applied bleach on approximately around 11:20am. Sat me down at the heat dryer thing for about a whole hour. The owner comes and checks my hair intensity and tells that my hair intensity was good. So they moved the dryer off my foiled head and let me sit for about another 5 minutes or so. I was then moved to the washing station. Washed the bleach out, sadly I didn't get to see what the bleaching process came out. My roots were a but orange so reapplied bleach to the roots and left on for 10-15 minutes. Came back and washed off. Toner for roots stayed in for 15 minutes, toner for my remaining hair-30 minutes. After washing the toner off, I was then moved back to the dryer. The girl from the front desk took a look at my wet hair and said it looked great. The hairdresser said the hair color looked great. But something was off. I was then sat down where I could see myself again. The owner comes and brushes my hair with her fingers and you could just see all my hair falling! It was as if I was shedding! Like, a Husky shedding it's fur. It was so crazy. I didn't know what to think! And the owner's face was just... eckkk. Lols. The hairdresser had a girl helped dry my hair because they had another customer they were working with. As she was brushing my hair, my hair was just ripping apart. At that moment, I just wanted to call it quits and tell her to please stop brushing and pulling my hair. But I didn't do it. I wanted to see what their reaction was. What they would say... N.O.T.H.I.N.G. Dried my hair, took like 10-15 minutes. Hairdresser comes back to CUT my hair. Like, what was left to cut? My hair was ripping apart! Lol. And as if they didn't applied enough heat to ruined my decent hair from before I went in, they curled my hair. Lol. Like whyyy? Gosh. For a picture, of course. :) So yea, my hair is fried. I don't even want to wash it. I'm afraid it's gonna keep falling off. I wanted the smell of all those shampoos and conditioner used that Day to go away bc it's haunting me. Lol. I paid about 250$ for everything, an extra 34$ for a deep conditioner (bc I had no choice and I wanted to show my hair love), and I still tipped 20$ (sayonara) ;( . I'm surprised they even charged me for the full amount. I could just sense what everyone was thinking when they saw my hair. A complete disaster. Hairdresser was nice, outgoing, funny, and cool. I enjoyed it. Although I came back home with messed up, overcooked spaghetti strings, it's all good. It was only a lesson learned for me. I've usually done my own hair for over 5 years. I've bleached it about 4 times (4 months) having it as a session one at a time. And my hair has never ever reacted this way until now. " At least she doesn't have any bald spots." "It looks great though!" Lol. Thanks for trying to make me feel better about my hair. The experience was fine. But have a little more compassion, please. I won't be coming back here. Ruining my hair was fine but making statements like such was unacceptable, also, not owning up to the disaster and blaming it on my prior bleaching process just won't do it. I didn't say anything though. There's not much to say because what was done, was done. Hair grows and I have no issues. Just wanted to share my experience. :) I thought i may have found the right place to go to and that i would really like the outcome but it didn't turn out the way i had hoped it would. My sister recommended this place to me and I haven't regretted it so far. I'm always skeptical about where I go to do my hair because you never know how things will turn out, but Lai has been great. This is a long/long over-due Yelp review for an amazing hair stylist/Tyler @ Tangelo, who I adore and trust completely when it comes to my dirty-blonde, super thick, sometimes hard to manage hair (please read to the end!!!) I lived in the bay area for years and experienced some good and bad while there. Once I found a semi-reasonably priced stylist who could manage my locks with skill, I was attached. It was terrifying to have to part-ways when relocating to the Sacramento Area. That may sound semi-dramatic but let's be real, a good (or bad) hair day can impact how we feel about ourselves, can boost a day (or add to feeling blah) and when investing to have our hair (and selves) cared for- it's important to have a stylist you trust! I made the trek back to the bay area a few times but knew I had to find someone local...and then (luckily) I got connected to Tyler! I work at a local hospital and started asking co-workers if they know of any good Salons in the area. Countless people recommended a local salon but each time clarified "If you can, Try to get in w/Tyler L. he is the best!". I called asking when his next available appointment was & lucked out because one of his clients cancelled last minute due to an illness. I got to see if all this hype was accurate and believe me, it was! Not only is Tyler very skilled at what he does (color, cut, professionalism) but he gets to know his clients and their hair. I can go to him with ideas in mind (I'm not very risky when it comes to changes) and he knows me, my hair and can give me gentle/honest feedback. He'd never do poor work just cuz I demanded something absurd. He talks it through, gives solid guidance given his expertise and helps support the client wishes w/o jeopardizing the quality of the hair! In addition, I can't tell you how many hair dressers I've had that get impatient during an appointment w/me; my hair is thick and takes a solid chunk of time. But NEVER, ever have I gotten that impression w/Tyler. He is kind, patient, fun, funny and just an all-around awesome human being. I never dread going to a lengthy appointment full of boring small talk. We can gab it up & laugh for hours or have some calm/quiet- he seems to always pick up on whatever mood I'm in and respects the needs of his clients. And most importantly, I leave feeling refreshed, happy to have taken a few hours for some "me" time and truly rejuvenated/beautiful. I've always been beyond pleased with the results and always feel like I can speak up if I want a change. I'm always amazed how something as simple as a hair appointment can impact how I feel when I look at my reflection. I feel SO happy/relieved to have been referred to Tyler since moving here and am beyond grateful that I have someone I trust, whole heartedly, with my sometimes-stubborn locks! Tyler recently moved locations and is now worked out of Tangelo Hair Salon. Once I got the update, I knew, without hesitation, that I would be following him to his new spot. This is a beautiful salon. As soon as you walk in you are greeted with instant charm, a very friendly staff, and tons of natural light. So as a brand new client walking in, I was immediately impressed. Tyler was my stylist of the day, and honestly a dream. I have naturally straight blonde hair, which is incredibly unforgiving on stylists and makes them second guess everything they've ever learned about cutting hair. I have grown up with more bad cuts than good - until I found Tyler. Not only is he incredibly kind and fun to talk to, but he took the time to learn my hair and what I was asking for with it. I wanted to chop my hair off, but we started off slow with a trim and all over color. Lai explains the color process and makes sure you're comfortable the entire time. This was my first experience with a new hairstylist since I've been going to mine for 7 years now, but I wanted to see how Lai was since she was referred by a friend. Came in as a first time customer and only wanted to get my thick curly hair straightened flat. Tyler was my stylist. After washing my hair and blow drying it out, he flat ironed it. After flat ironing the first few parts and laying out in front of me to see, I realized it wasn't straightened flat. It wasnt even close to being straight. It was still frizzy and curled up at the ends. It was so noticable that I couldn't believe he didn't say anything. After pointing it out and wondering if this was the result, he mentioned he was having a hard time with my ends and it was probably the result of my bleached ends being damaged or me not getting a trim. Now the last time i got my hair straightened it came out sleek and shiny and perfectly straight even with the bleached ends, so the problem was him not knowing how to straighten my thick hair. I then told him I was not satisfied and he kinda remedied the problem after getting some verbal help from the other stylist next to us. It looked good for a moment until I went outside for a few hours and then realized my hair is just a mess now. I give only 3 stars because Tyler was calm and at least tried to fix it up. He did mention he has been doing hair for 8 years, and with a job as simple as flat ironing, I was expecting him to flat iron my hair with ease and know what he was doing. I believe either his flat iron itself was not good enough for my hair or he didn't apply any creams or sprays to my hair before flat ironing as to why it came out frizzy and terrible. This review is long overdue. Long story short: Tyler is perfection! I have bounced around from stylist to stylist for years. No one has ever "wowed" me enough to stay with them longer than 3 sessions. I'm not high maintenance by any means, but if a stylist is going to charge $200 just for a balayage it better be life changing! And then I found Tyler in March 2018. The very first appointment I had was simply for a cut. I was tired of paying hundreds for color when I never loved what was done, and I didn't want to risk another stylist doing mediocre work. After that first appointment, I fell in love immediately and booked a color appointment for the following week. First of all, Tyler is amazing. He's easy to talk to, open about his life, and is happy to give me advice for things going on in my life. He's basically my stylist and therapist all in one. Although I'm happy that I love the work he does on my hair, I'm happier that I love the person who is doing it. I look forward to every appointment, not just for my hair but for the opportunity to see him! Second, Tyler knows how to cut hair. I don't even know how to describe how much this first hair cut changed my life (no, I'm not being dramatic. It literally changed my life). I have never thought much about a hair cut... in my mind, a haircut is a haircut. Nothing special. Wow, was I wrong. I don't know what he did, I don't know how he did it, but I was amazed at how my hair looked after he cut it. For me, it was a game-changer. I was in disbelief at how amazing the shape of my hair was. I had no idea it was possible for a haircut to be something special until I met Tyler. I didn't know what confidence in my hair was until this haircut. He has colored my hair 5 or 6 times so far and each time I have loved it more that the last. He listens to what I want and is happy to give me his own ideas when I ask for them. I personally feel that your hair color is a group project; although I can ask him for what I want, I think he should have a say in how realistic that request is. I spent a whole weekend calling different hair salons that would be willing to do my hair because at the time I had extensions .Tejae was recommended several times by a few different salons in Sacramento so of course I contacted him for an appointment . Tangelo is an upscale salon decorated very nicely , they offer beverages while your being styled & they sell some Great hair products & styling tools as well . Tejae did an amazing job when coloring my extensions & cutting them too . He didn't just have to style he also corrected what a previous stylist did .so he really did s great job . I was so happy with his previous work that I decided to come back for him to cut & style my natural hair . GREAT job on both . He's super friendly but also very professional . I finally got my virgin hair died after a long time of contemplating whether or not I should get my hair done. I followed Kayla on Instagram (@hairbykaylawould) and saw all the beautiful hair that she has done on her previous clients. She was generous enough to host a giveaway on her page and I was lucky enough to be selected as the winner! Kayla was very sweet and wanted to know if there was a particular hair color and style I wanted; I had never done my hair before so I was clueless and decided to let her know I wanted something a little more natural and the rest was up to her creative freedom. She helped set me up for an appointment where I informed her of my availability and phone number and I got a quick text back confirming my appointment. It was really simple to set up an appointment; just message her on IG or call the store! There was parking in front of the salon or around the block. It was very convenient and I opted to park in the front. I was very nervous to get my hair done, not because of Kayla's work, but because this was my first time ever getting my hair died so I was anxious and nervous to see the outcome. I walked in and the vibe was really chill and laid back. I love that they have a nice little couch for clients (or their friends) to lounge around. In addition, they have a little water station with some goodies (and they have beer in the back upon request!). Kayla greeted me and I walked over to her station where she asked me if I had any photos of any hair styles or colors that I wanted. Unfortunately, I did not go in as prepared as I thought I did and I was clueless and told her that I wanted to keep the length and maybe balayage that is more natural. She got to work and we were conversing; she is the friendliest and sweetest ever! We chatted like we were just friends catching up! I am so glad that we clicked so well and before I knew it, she was already done putting the foils in my hair! I had to let the dye sit in for about 20 or so minutes where Kayla offered me a charging wire for my phone (since I was Snapchatting my whole experience)!! After the 20 minutes, I went to sit at the hair dryer station where I sat for about 10-15 minutes while Kayla helped me check on the hair color. Next was the hair washing station and the products she used on my hair was AMAZING!! It smelled so good and I bet my hair was happy that it was getting treated with top notch products!! She washed the color off and that I was ready to get my hair dried and styled. I was too nervous to look at the color of my hair, but I did get a glance and was surprised on how blonde it looked, but it was still a very natural balayage. After drying, she styled my hair with the curler and I was ready to see the results! She turned my chair around and OH MY GOSH WOW! I FEEL LIKE A WHOLE NEW PERSON!! The hair turned out a lot nicer than I thought and of course we had to take pictures of the results !! I also keep getting lots of compliments from friends, family and strangers about how great my hair looks so I definitely know that I'm not the only one who thinks she did an amazing job! Kayla was very personable throughout the whole experience and even shared some of her knowledge and stories. She even recommended shampoos and conditioners to upkeep my hair without stripping the color. I love NOUNOU hair shampoo and conditioner that she recommended to me because it smells A1 (like a small hint of floral but still very refreshing!) I am definitely returning to get my hair touched up within the next few months!! Overall, Kayla was very patient with me throughout the whole process and I recommend her to anyone who is planning to get their hair colored. read more

Feels like I've been taken for a ride. Came in looking for something particular, didn't get what I wanted, not even close. The review photos show blended highlights. I wanted natural roots but got stripe highlights touching the roots, not blended, looking like the early 2000s. She tried fixing it but ultimately charged me $25 more than original quote through text. Not sure why. Very disappointing. Its very hard for me to trust people with my hair. I was really hoping this salon would be the one but I guess the search continues. Very sad I'm out a good amount of money to not get what I want AND have to fix my hair someplace else. read more

Called early on New Year's Eve and got in with Kayla immediately. She was super friendly and sweet. I just wanted to get my blonde toned and get the brassy tones out. My daughter just had her appointment with Tyler yesterday. Her first words to me were "Tyler is awesome!" He not only did her hair perfectly he was so friendly and helpful. Since she wasn't exactly sure how she wanted her hair done she left it up to Tyler because he gained her trust so quickly and he did not disappoint. That's a difficult thing to do because she has wavy/curly hair and so many stylists have not done a good job on her hair. He also went over and above to provide a great experience for her. Also want to thank Erica for helping us with my daughter's appointment. As I said in a previous review she was so gracious when we had to cancel due to a potential virus exposure. Then when it turned out that there was no exposure Erica and Tyler very kindly rescheduled the appointment with no problem. This salon is beautiful! Filled with natural light and a friendly staff. Evelyn has given me my dream hair and is always welcoming when I come in for bang trims or color touch ups. I have exclusively been going to Sumin for 4 years now and when she moved salons to Tangelo I of course had to follow . Her work is impeccable and her attention to detail is always on point. I know that when I sit at her station, I can literally trust her to work her magic on my hair. She has taken care of the many phases of my hair, from long to short to medium length, from having no color at all to balayage, and even a short stint with blunt bangs, which she had to trim every 2-3 weeks. She is amazing at her craft and always takes care of her clients. As for the salon, I love the bright, modern, and chic look and feel of it. It is easy to find and parking is usually plentiful, especially if you park at their designated lot. The salon uses R&Co products and now carries Davines products, of which, the Oi Oil is one of my favorites. Their prices are reasonable and booking an appointment is very easy. I've been coming here for almost a year now! I did my research on Yelp to look for a stylist in the Sacramento area, and I decided to make an appointment with Sumin. Since then, I've been back numerous times to get my hair colored, toned, and cut. Most recently, I went to get my second balayage here (the first one was around six months ago), and I wanted to go lighter. I loved the color but when I got home I noticed the roots were not blended at all. I was going out of town in a few days so I urgently messaged the owner on Yelp and she got back to me within minutes even though it was late at night. The next day Sumin texted me and we were able to meet in the salon even though they were closed. I was very grateful she was willing to fix my roots even on her day off! She did not take any extra tips or payment for 2-3 hours of work. A+++ customer service!!! Now my hair is the light ash brown color I wanted! Proves why I keep coming back :) read more

I am terrible at scheduling haircuts and with COVID, I let my hair get way out of control. I actually had Tyler cut my hair 2 years ago at a previous salon and loved the way he cut my hair and was so helpful, but when I went back - he was gone :( I had started scrolling through yelp looking for a new salon and saw Tangelo had really great reviews. I started poking around their websites and to my surprise I found Tyler! I called and he was able to work with my busy work schedule and fit me in. The day of my appointment he even reached out to let me know that he had an earlier availability, which I really appreciated. Tyler was also super great and helpful as I am super indecisive when it comes to my hair. I had hair down to my low back and a grown out undercut which really made me look ridiculous. We talked through some ideas and settled on just past shoulder length and adding layers for volume/texture (and to hide my weird undercut hairs). When things were all said and done, my hair looked amazing! I was so happy and excited to show it off. He also made sure to cut it in a way that fit my busy life and would look good when I air dry it or can't spend time styling it - so far no complaints and I still love it. read more

Erica is my stylist she never fails to provide the best. I've been following her since 2012. When she opened the salon, i was thrilled. She always has new ideas for my cut and color. The cuts she gives me are amazing and believe me, with my thick and frizzy hair, that is a really difficult feat to accomplish. The atmosphere of this salon is relaxing, positive and comfortable. They make you feel right at home, offering you refreshments and providing the best service out there. They are personable and in a world that's soo monetarily driven, they want whats best for you and your hair. Tangelo is truly one of the best in Sacramento. I followed my stylist, Lai, here from Colour Bar. The location is cute and friendly and they still have the same products I like before. Erica, the owner, was nice to me and everyone I've talked to on the phone with there was super friendly, even when I was a little stressed :) I have a pretty hard to work with schedule since I'm only off work Sundays and Mondays, the two days most all salons are closed, including this one. They still found a way to get me in with my specific stylist pretty quickly considering I was coming in to have a LOT done. This is why I trust Lai. She will not book your appointment too short. She always sets really expectations about how long things will take and what the results might be. She will never ever promise you anything that she can't do and she will not process your hair to the point of frying it for a desired result. In under 6 hours she was able to cut, bleach, tone, style, and olaplex my hair. I have long, extremely fine hair but I have a TONS of it. I actually shave part of it and then part my hair in the opposite direction to covered the saved part because there is so much hair and it is so hard to manage and maintain, but I'm growing that part out for my wedding and it's about 4 inches long, so she also had to get all of that fine hair. Someone less skilled would literally need all day to do my hair. That brings me to another point. I just like talking to Lai. There is no way I could sit around for 6 hours with someone I was not comfortable with. It would just make me anxious. She is easy to talk to and also kept checking to make sure I was okay, asking if I needed more water, et cetera. She recommends products based on what you need, versus a lot of salons that will just try to upsell you. If she recommends a product or a treatment, get it. My hair was dyed red for all but the first 4 inches. She somehow managed to lift it to a very light blonde and then tone it to a mix of of super light platinum and grey blonde, which is what I wanted. We didn't know if we could get it that light because of the red but it lifted really well. My scalp is a little sensitive so we did the roots in two short sessions to make sure they were light enough and she rec'd a shampoo that will keep it toned for me. She styled it super cute and really fast as well and the cut is perfect. We did not have to sacrifice much length at all to get the look. I have long hair and I'm not a fan of "scissor happy" stylists that cut lots off. She cut off what was dry and needed to be cut, but honestly all that hair needed to be cut before I even bleached it. The atmosphere here vs her old salon is more relaxed, which works for me. I saw a lot of people come in and out and get their hair done in the 5 1/2 hours I was there and everyone looked great. A lot of bleaching was done that day by chance and I think I saw three different stylists bleach people and everyone's hair looked great. I never saw anyone waiting longer than a minute or two but there is a lot of comfortable seating just in case. It also wasn't freezing in there despite it being super cold in there and the store front being made out of panes of glass. Oh and then my bank declined my card for fraud protection since I hadn't been to the salon before or usually come to that part of town and Lai and the woman who I believe owns the salon apologized to ME about it. I'm sure in another salon that would have been super embarrassing, having to call the bank and all that to get it cleared up so I could pay, but they were nothing but sweet and apologetic and then just took care of rescheduling me while I waited on hold with the bank. I'm going to include some pictures from my current style/color as well as some work that she did at the colour bar because I'm noticing that photo is still getting likes and saves on yelp but she no longer works there :) If you want something like blonde hair, ombre, vivid colors, et cetera, this is especially true. You need a stylist that is an artist and understand colors and shapes. When Lai ombred my hair last she custom mixed me four colors. It was pink and purple and it lasted SIX MONTHS. Yes I took super special care of it but that's unheard of for colors like that. Most people are lucky to get six weeks. I had another girl do my hair one shade of purple prior to that and it didn't even last six weeks, and she didn't bother to tone my hair correctly at all before the purple dye because "purple is what you use to tone blonde hair whiter, anyway." It faded out patchy and looked awful in about 4 weeks and left my hair in bad shape and damaged. So, yes it costs a bit more come here than it did there. But is it worth it? Obviously. Besides, she also took twice as long doing it so of course it costs more here. It's honestly not that expensive at the end of the day. read more
