We happened on Tang & Java, Woodland Hills at 22776 Ventura Blvd. Small strip mall on a very busy intersection. Hunting for coffee after our big diner breakfast down the street. Breakfast was great, but coffee not so much. So Tang & Java was a perfect find! A little oasis of cool Interior, nice, clean, modern with warm accents and decor. Peruse the menus for coffee, gelato and snacks. Order at the counter and grab a table. Ordered a go-to cappuccino and it was perfect! You know it's good when with each sip you savor and let the roasted flavors of premium rich coffee beans linger on your palate. I appreciate an excellent cappuccino any time I can find one and T&J did very well here. There's a small menu of snacks like POFFERTJES, small Dutch treats you can customize with cheese, strawberries or whipped cream! Or, WOWEE, BIBINGKAS (available only on Sundays), a Filipino bake rice cake!!!! But their selection and variety of in-house made gelatos was impressive and should be enjoyed. Next trip! They have terrible customer service. The managers are rude and will hang up on you multiple times mid conversation after they forgot to package orders properly or didn't tell a driver who is delivering your items to you that a drink is included in your order and that they need to take it with them. The staff is incompetent and they're constantly messing up orders. I've received their little Dutch pancakes multiple times where they're half baked or over baked and they either are missing strawberries on them or they don't have any toppings on them whatsoever. They've screwed up my drinks before or sent me wrong drinks. This coffee shop is a nice concept but it is very poorly executed and no one there gives a damn about the customers. And they let that be known every single time they hang up on you. And every single time that they yell at you. And when you don't have a car to drive halfway across the valley in order to pick up your items that the manager and the staff forgot to include in your order, they make you feel like trash about it and they tell you that it's your problem and you need to figure it out. I will definitely not be ordering from here despite of being one of my favorite places to get coffee when it's reliable service. However it seems like they keep trading out staff and nothing about them is reliable anymore. Not even the courtesy or the common sense. read more

Wished yelped at a scale system, but I'd give this place a 3.8. I love their gelato and their Yuzu Calamansi drink, but unfortunately this unsweetened ceremonial matcha latte was underwhelming. The matcha was non-existent and ratio of milk-to-matcha was off-putting. I'd suggest adding a bit more matcha to have a more deep green flavor. I also had their ube latte a few weeks back. It was also a bit underwhelming with it's price point. Not sure if there was enough syrup added to the drink for this one. Service is welcoming through. No restrooms so it's only a pit stop. I ordered the sea salt caramel toffee iced latte and had I not ordered it myself, I wouldn't have known that's what I'm drinking. It didn't taste like caramel or toffee at all, and the coffee was bitter. There was also coffee sediment at the bottom of my drink which tells me they don't clean their espresso machine consistently. I also ordered their ube treats -- ube biscoff brownie, ube cheesecake & ube mochi cornbread and they were mid. The ube brownie had the consistency of play doh and was kind of powdery. Although it had two biscoff cookies on top I did not taste it at all because the powdery ube overpowered it. The ube cheesecake was descent but the ube on the bottom was kind of dense. The ube mochi cornbread didn't taste like ube at all, it tasted mostly like cornbread and the consistency was too chewy. I was disappointed with what I ordered because their pictures and reviews made me excited to try them, but maybe I just ordered the wrong items. Tang and Java is such a gem! I work nearby and this has become my go-to spot whenever I need a pick-me-up. Their mocha frapp with an extra shot is chef's kiss -- so good every single time. The space is small but super clean, with about 2-3 tables and a cute little bar area that's perfect for reading or getting some work done. I've come in a few times just to chill with a book and vibe to the music -- usually Drake, which I love. I believe it's Filipino woman-owned which makes me love supporting it even more I haven't tried the gelato yet but it always looks amazing. They were delicious and definitely the highlight. Overall, it's a cozy spot with some hits and misses. The barista was nice after I asked about different latte suggestions and favorites. Ordered the Hawaiian Kona. Was told it has macadamia syrup. Tasted good but wasn't too special. Ube brownie cheesecake was small for $7. The cheesecake frosting balanced with the ube brownie so it wasn't too sweet, although not as soft as I'd like since it's been chilled. Wish the portion was bigger for the price. The strawberry rose matcha tasted good with its floral notes. I was so excited at the potential for this spot, given their menu options, but it unfortunately fell short in a few ways. First, while ordering was simple and service was friendly, the time it took to get our orders was pretty long. It took 20 minutes to get our drinks, though the place was pretty empty. There might have been maybe 1 person in front of us. It took us 30 minutes to get our check-in poffertjes, though. It seems like they forgot they were cooking, so they had to start them again when we checked on our order. They were similar to mini pancakes, which were nice, but not worth a 30 minute wait. Second, the ube cookie didn't taste much like ube. It was way overpowered by the coconut flakes in the cookie, which we weren't expecting. I wouldn't go for that again. Third, while my friend really enjoyed her blueberry lavender matcha, I wasn't a fan of the ube latte (with soymilk). It didn't really taste much of ube either, so it was a bit underwhelming. Overall, while the menu items sounded really exciting, the execution was lacking. If anything, my friend did really enjoy her matcha, so that's a plus. Wow, that's how this is going to start. Just wow. Everything we tasted was amazing. From the mango lassi gelato to the tuna melt, everything is basic but elevated. The rice gelato tastes like amped up horchata in the best way possible. The gelato is not overly sweet and is incredibly smooth. The Ube Cornbread is so unexpectedly delicious and addictive. The little Dutch pancakes (proff-something) are warm, delicious and oh so comforting. The cafe itself is very clean and comfortable. The decor is simple, not overwhelming and nicely organized. November 2024 Divine, Delectable, Delicious! Yes, I'll be back. Worth every penny. Prices are: $5.25 1 scoop $7.95 2 scoops $13.95 1 pint 1. Great service: John and the other person working the counter were all about hospitality. They let me try a couple different flavors, and I settled on two. 2. The Gelato is made like real Gelato should be made. There's very little air incorporated into the final product, and it's not overly sweet. I can taste the cream and milk. The mouth feel is extraordinary. Dont rush to finish it. Let it linger in your mouth for a better experience. Today's flavors I tried: Amaretto: you have to really Savor this once you take a spoonful. The longer you let it melt in your mouth, the more subtleties your palate will pick up. It's not overly sweet, not overly strong, it's just the right blend of almond and a toasted wafer flavor I can't quite identify.. malt? Fig & Mascarpone: omg! My favorite today. Again, something you really need to savor and let melt in your mouth to truly appreciate all of the nuances that are going on here. It's savory, not overly sweet, something you would have after say like a steak dinner. The fig is amazing in combination with the marscapone. I tried the Goat Cheese as well, another savory winner. It wasn't sweet, and the balance of just the right amount of sugar with the saltiness of the goat cheese hits every part of your palate. In general, their Gelato is creamy, it's smooth, it's like a trophy you celebrate. Marinate on it, taste it, enjoy it. One of the other reasons I know this is true gelato, made in the real gelato making style from Italy is because there is a super fine structure and texture about it. It's not crystalline like ice cream would be, and there's not a lot of Incorporated air. Basically, the real gelato making technique takes time, and it's typically taken out of the gelato maker in a semi-solid state, more liquidy. Then it gets transferred to a deep freezer to come down to its final temperature below freezing. This means that the texture is more smooth, less rough, and more of that true mouth feel which coats your palate as it melts. I didn't notice or taste any of the typical cheat method ice cream making additives like guar gum or xantha gum. To the contrary, Tang and Java truly is gelato! No doubt about it. There is a quality here that you just don't get at other so-called "gelato" places. It's worth every penny. And the Pint for $14 is truly the best value. Parking: pretty easy to find parking in the lot, also on the street. Just beware of that light on Fallbrook and ventura. Sometimes you can get stuck there for an eternity. But that's not the fault of Tang and Java. I blame the city of Los angeles. Lol. Atmosphere: it's kind of like Steampunk meets Swanky 1960s Los Feliz Jazz Lounge. Great date spot for sure! The owners are great people! They put their heart and soul into this establishment, and you should definitely give them a chance to earn your business. The vibe was missing something though; it wasn't a "happening" place like Crave or others, but more quiet and bland. I'd say it's the location. I've been wanting to try this place for a while after seeing them advertised in the Maiden Community. They had a fun summer menu posted and if I weren't so starved for caffeine I would definitely have tried their mocktails because I love yuzu and calamansi. I ordered an iced mocha brown sugar jelly and it was really fun, a bit like boba but stiffer. Since I went on a Sunday I was able to order bibingka, which omg it was so good. It's like a very small pancake that's stuffed with cheese and then covered with coconut flakes. Pairing this with the poffertjes my friend ordered was a perfect mix of salty and sweet.
