Better not leave your car here at night...or ever.

It gets 1 Star by default but really...this station deserves it. I felt like taking the train and not paying for parking so Tamien was the best choice. I started to question that decision as soon as I walked through the parking lot seeing shattered glass twice on my way in. I know the kind of area I'm in because I don't live that far from the station but seriously?! I CalTrain knows about the break-ins from police reports and this still happens?! Parking is free, but that really isn't the case when you car windows get busted. At least pretend like you care CalTrain and install some cameras in the area! This is why you don't park at Tamien CalTrain Station near sunset. You probably shouldn't park here during the day either.

I'm taking this train to my work at PA. My co-worker told me to take this train because the parking is free! The drive is only 10mins away from my place so I'm really glad. I start work early so I'm able to find parking before it gets full. Based on some reviews I read, it's not good parking here at night. People mention their car's glass got shattered and no cameras around to catch the culprit. Anyways, I catch the bullet train so it only takes me 20 minutes to arrive at PA.

    Smashed window

I love this station but I could not find security anywhere. I felt violated seeing my window was smashed after a hard day at work.

First time I park there in a year and get 3 tires slashed. Happened at 7am! Nope...

Ok so on a recent trip to San Jose with my mother and brother-to go see my beloved San Jose…read moreSharks,I was trying to figure out a more efficient way to way of getting to the stadium-for both cost efficiency and traffic chaos-I really dislike the traffic after an event be it a sporting event or a concert and with the love the San Jose Sharks have been getting lately,I knew traffic would be bad both pre and post game. So looking into the cost of parking near the stadium-i I was looking at upwards of $40 to park across the street from the SAP Center-that's outrageous to me-so I knew there had to be a better way. So what I decided to do was look into the Light Rail system in the area and I realized I could park at the Bascom Rail Station-which is part of the VTA system in the area. Once parked I could catch the light rail and go 2 or 3 stops, maybe 10 minutes and it would drop me off right in front of the SAP Center and I could just walk into the stadium. Here is the good stuff-parking at the light rail station was free and the fare for the train was like $2.50. After the event-it was so easy to just walk back to the station-catch a train back to Bascom and jump in my car and off I was back to Sacramento-easy peasy. The station felt very safe-especially on a game night, lots of people at the train station-so no issues there. In closing-I would definitely highly recommend this method of getting to and from events at the SAP Center-it's cheaper-it's less hectic and it's super efficient-Be Safe Out There. PS-This method works for events at Levi Stadium as well-VTA Light Rail for the win.....

Now as a grad student I no longer come here because I don't like crowded tram stations. Even with a pandemic, it didn't seem to stop the crowds. This station is very convenient for those who live in the Bascom and far Campbell area. For those who are going to Levi's stadium this station has plenty of parking nearby. They have their own lot as well as street parking. There is easy access to Valley Medical and the 61 bus. Whole foods is just down the street as well as the Campbell Creek trail nearby. Took a star off due to the unevenness I feel here but for the sports fan, this station really helps. Drawback: it can be a bit tough here because of the proximity to the hospital. There could be transients walking around here.

The first rule of naming transit stations is that the name should be simple. That means no slashes…read more Choose the name that's the most important or that is most different from other local station names. This station has a triply unfortunate name because (a) it has that slash, (b) "Metro" is an awful name for a metro station, because it sounds like the kind of station rather than the station itself, and (c) one would assume that it's possible to access the airport directly from a station with "Airport" in its name, but one would be incorrect, because in order to reach the airport, one has to take a VTA bus (line 60) from here. Wow, so that name is awful. How about the station itself? It's OK. Like most VTA stations, it feels too small and like it's in the middle of nowhere. Again, a station with the words "Metro" and "Airport" in its name feels like it should be right in the middle of all the urban action, but this station manages to make the surrounding area feel like an industrial wasteland even though most of San José (including its pathetic downtown) is decidedly suburban. I told Dan and Jorge that there would be parking near this station, but they assured me there wouldn't be. Lo and behold, when we came back here and had to get a ride because we hadn't parked, I spied three parking spots on one street within a block of the station. The bigger question is why I continue to allow a resident of Santa Clara and San José, respectively, to tell me, a resident of San Francisco, how difficult parking in a given area is. Jorge has never lived in San Francisco, but Dan has; he should know better. Difficult means there's absolutely no street parking within a mile, maybe a mile-and-a-half. I'm sure I would have been able to find a legal parking spot before we went to the concert.

I'm torn between giving this station a four or perfect five star review. The reason why I gave this a perfect rating was because the schedule was accurate (round trip) and the inside of the Light Rail was clean and odorless. The announcements for each stop was clear and precise. Pay station was in working condition....accepts cash and credit cards. It's $1.25 for a one way trip. You have the option to buy day passes as well. This is a great transportation system to get you around the city. Even better since it makes a stop for Levi's Stadium (Great America stop). Only reason why I would knock off one star was because the St. James station is located in a park where numerous homeless people hang/resides (and a few who's mind isn't "all there"). So be careful of your surroundings, don't get distracted constantly looking down at your phone, be alert at all times. Also pay attention to where you're walking. For being adjacent to the park occupied by homeless, VTA does a great job keeping things clean and safe. It's also a perfect stop for Trials Pub, so a night out can be enjoyed by all, and VTA will assure a safe trip home.
