Bought a bunch of bottles of local (and other Italian) Olive Oil. Some cheaper ones and some higher priced quality. But both were of really good quality, taste and flavour. Gotta love Italian Olive Oil. Then some nice salami. Really good, far from being mass-produced. Then some jams and chutneys - they go very well with Italian cheese. A very nice shop. Prices might seem a bit higher. But this is not a chain shop. This one really has great, special food items not easily found at other shops. And definitely worth the money.

I love to cook so first order of business when I am here in Lucca is buy our groceries. We tend to overstock in USA but here just buy what you need for a few days so they are fresh. The chicken taste much better ; seems like not a lot of hormones and chemicals in their products. Milk are quart sizes not in gallons!! Prices are reasonable especially scondo/ sales items. If you are living from inside the wall it is a bit of distance if you don't have a car. You can go to smaller market inside the wall at Tambellini near piazza san frediano and anfitreatro. Smaller selection; that's all you need.

Then our mains were a butter sage ravioli and porcini mushrooms pasta. All cooked perfectly and very tasty. Service by a young man was prompt and he was friendly. Second night in a row to enjoy dinner on the piazza so obviously we like the area. La Grotta would be a great choice to visit once again!

He guided us through a salami selection and made us taste different cheeses with assorted pairings. He then informed us of the different olives, tomatoes and breads. We walked away with salami, pesto, focaccia, mozzarella, olives, olive oil soaked tomatoes all for about 40 euros... we could not have been happier that we stopped in and were treated to his expertise! What a great local treat this was, a fantastic end to our day in Lucca!

They have fresh produce and vegetables, deli, milk, bread, wines etc etc. Prices reasonable . Friendly and helpful to tourist living in Lucca. Cashiers speaks English, deli guy at the back does not but he is very helpful.
