I still remember gazing in awe at the child-sized choo-choo…read moretrain as it endlessly did round after round after round of the mini train track, it was sooo exciting when he'd toot the horn occasionally. I laugh so hard when I see it now compared to the uber-stimulation kids get these days, and I LOVE that it still exists and is probably still 20c a ride. This lovely family-friendly park always has a few dogs running around, a few games of Frisbee going on and a few people kicking a football around, is well-maintained, expansive, and with ample barbeques and plenty of shade. There are plenty of cubicles in the bathrooms, plenty of room to shower and change in the change room and, rarely for the Eastern Suburbs, some privacy is even offered for the more modest amongst us. (Not me, I grew up here.) If the BBQ's are all in use (common in Summer), supplies can be found at the Bronte Kiosk and fish'n'chips and the like can be had from any of the shops across the road. DO NOT expect to find a newspaper down here though, the caffs all have them to read on the premises but if you plan on reading the trashy Sunday papers in the park or on the beach it's BYO.

This grasslands sits right near the beach and offers a place to play with the kids, throw ball with the dog or to chill with your friends and have a BBQ. It gets busy in summer but not as bad or as touristy as Bondi, so locals tend to head here instead. It's a great place for a picnic and if you can't be bothered cooking there are heaps of great cafes near where you can grab something, sit on the grass and enjoy the stunning view. You know this place. The 3-tiered grassy hill above the rocks, right in front of North Bondi Italian and the RSL. As soon as there's the barest sliver of sunshine people looking to get their writhing funzos on stream down and spread out towels, sarongs and picnics, bust out the eskies and the booze, light up durries and, yes, often joints, and live like people in those Corona "From Where You'd Rather Be" ads. You're pretty much guaranteed to see local celebs, from Channel V presenters to models to D-list look-at-me's. But here's the thing: nobody's looking. They're just chilling out and loving life. So posers, pose elsewhere. Best thing ever is to get there early arvo and leave after dusk. You'll have accomplished everything and nothing all at once. Make mine the party grass.

But you'd be very wrong. Escape the meat market sunning themselves in the paddock directly above the North Bondi paddling pool and make your way up the steps to the grassy knoll. There isn't much shade here either, but you are more likely to find a piece of grass to sun yourself on or a picnic shelter or even a pleasant little playground for the kiddliwinks. You also still get a wonderful view of the beach minus the roided Bondi boys, Brazilian beach bums and screaming children in front of ice cream vans. Take your picnic in peace like a true local and park your keister on the North Bondi Grassy Knoll.

While it's definitely an old beach town, it feels like an oasis. The most gorgeous water I have ever seen. The whole area is filled with delicious food options, as well. From dining in town or closer to the beach, there's something for everyone. And, the shopping is incredible. Favorite eating spot: Common Supply. Mobbed by surfers, locals, tourists, dog walkers and instagrammers alike the broad stretch of golden sand is home to Australian surf culture. On a relatively quiet and instagrammer free day we were lucky to have a perfect view down the beach from beside the Iconic icebergs winter swimming club pool. A current controversy being mulled over by beach communities across Sydney is the annual installation of shark netting across every metropolitan beach that by design rarely deter sharks but impact a variety of sea life including seals, whales, turtles and dolphins as bycatch. With the installation of smart drumlines and a policy of tag, release and monitor at most beaches perhaps the shark nets time has come and gone. Then there was the mass shooting at Bondi's Archer Park on 12/14/25. Two gunmen--identified by Australian authorities as a father and son--targeted a crowd of hundreds at a gathering of Sydney's Jewish community on the first night of Hanukkah. They killed 15 Jews and wounded more than 40. It was Australia's worst mass shooting since the 1996 Port Arthur Massacre and the deadliest terrorist incident in the country's history. When our tour group was here, I asked about the location of the shooting. Our tour guide pointed to it, and then quickly stated that he didn't want to talk about it. I think there was a fair amount of shame behind that answer, in addition to my own opinion that Australia society has not come to terms with its antisemitism.

Located off New South Head Road off the Lyne Park Tennis courts, with a few stella cafe's and restaurants to boot, the location is perfect. You'll see many boats entering the water from the wharf, and some quiet fishermen delicately lowering their lines into the water, unfortunately they mostly catch seaweed and anchors.

It has everything you need in a park - a stunning harbour view,pathways by the ocean, a place to kick around a ball or to grab a cold drink... Dogs are welcome and kids will be entertained by the fun and amusement of the protected playground - that said, whenever I've beenm I've noticed kids have enjoyed chasing around seagulls more than climbing the jungle gym.... A family friendly place to grab the kids, friends, dogs and a picnic.... The only thing is that this isn't a place to swim....so leave your swimsuit behind on this trip....

Easy access From Bondi Junction, a 20 minute bus ride depending on where you want to start. I walked 90% of the trail because i wanted shorter Bus route. FYI, the bus is within the building of Bondi Junction above the train station not street side. Reminds me of some of the cliffs along the beaches of California. Some tips. Bring swimming trunk, lotion, sun protection, and water bottle. There are refill stations along the way and bathrooms. Not much shade even on this cloudy day. Multiple beaches along the route where you can take a dip. Restaurants are also accessible, but I prefer a picnic lunch so you can enjoy the views with the plenty benches and the beaches. Some have some shady seating options. I went on a weekday so I'm guessing on weekends more crowds. The beaches often have showers and restrooms.

From the beautiful,…read morepicturesque spots, to the graveyard and most perfect blue water I've ever seen, this walk was worth every minute, every mile and every step. One of the most memorable, special moments of my time in Sydney. Pictures don't do it justice, but the memories will last a lifetime. Stop along the way at clovelly beach, dolphin look out, and take in natures finest when you finally make it to the Bondi icebergs!
