This summer I visited tally with my 3.5 year old and our close friend brought us to this museum! Things I wish I knew beforehand: wear tennis shoes (it's mostly outside with lots of walking), bring the stroller for my lazy toddler, don't pack food because their cafe is awesome with a variety of meals and snacks. The animal tour we took was where my kiddo struggled the most...he's not ready for long walks or zoos. The playground at the end made the whole trip worth every minute! read more

Animals galore! The animals were out and easy to find today. You do have to look close up in the trees and in hiding areas . This Tallahassee museum has many places to walk over wooden decks to see animals from great vantage points and from the ground. Today, we were lucky enough to see Grey tree foxes, enormous black bears ( they must be eating well and not getting much exercise),Florida panther, bobcats, and even Grey wolves . They have a ton of activities and we even went back in history with Ms Juith to talk about the nostalgic farm houses from the 1880s that are on property.If you are lucky enough to visit on Saturday she might even make her famous ginger snap cookies. read more

"Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!" - Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz Well, they had a Florida panther and a black bear so that is two thirds true. I did not do the zip lining though that did look like fun. Instead, I took nearly two hours to tour the outside catwalk area that goes around several outdoor animal habitats. It was interesting to see the deer, foxes, and snakes from above and even the bear. I felt safe from anything trying to get up there. The snake habitat was also pretty cool and a few of them were actively moving around in their tanks. Creepy but fun! Such an impressive operation. Way more than meets the eye. It's part zoo, part history museum, part adventure park. Most of the expansive, well maintained grounds are shaded by live oaks, so it's not uncomfortably hot even on a 98 degree Saturday afternoon. There are several air-conditioned buildings to pop into, just in case, including a snack bar with cold beer available. The front office staff and those overseeing the ropes courses are all super friendly and helpful. Definitely looking forward to another visit! read more

What a nice little animal park this place is. Now there are some historical buildings on the grounds. So I guess it is a museum by definition. But with pandemic protocols in place, most were closed. I enjoyed exploring the trails through the old buildings and taking a peek inside. Strolling through the animal park section, you'll see a few cool animals like wolves, bobcats, deer, and cougars...to name a few. There's also some dinosaur sculptures made from car parts. Throughout the park there's are a few zip line courses. To zip, there's an additional fee that you need to pay at the admissions window. The dirt parking lot has a lot of spots but it was packed when I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon. While parking, I saw a white squirrel running around...I've never seen one of them before. read more

My daughter and I love going to the Tallahassee Museum. This is a great location to explore, have fun, learn and enjoy nature. They have many things to do. We love to look at the farm animals then take a trip to the playground. After burning off some energy, we move on to the other animals like turkeys, deer, fox, bobcats, wolves, otters and more. They also have some historical things to look at as well, like an old train car, one room school house, church and plantation home. You can spend loads of time here and it's a great way to spend the day. The also sell food and drinks (very affordable) so great spot for lunch as well! read more

We have been coming here for years each time we visit family in Tallahassee. It is a very interesting and engaging place for young kids. Safe, open, lots to do! It is part zoo, part playground, part history park and part zip line adventure. The history part is very cool. It does feel like you are in an old town back in the 1800's and you can walk inside all the buildings. Blacksmith area, working farm, houses, general store...etc. They have a full plantation house, an old schoolhouse and a red train caboose you can walk through. Highly recommended for kids and teens! The zoo part is good as well. A good selection of animals in their natural environments. The path is well shaded. The zip line was awesome. About $50 for the full course, which I would highly recommend doing. The first half of the course is more obstacles and some short zip lines. The second half is the really high and long zip lines....dont just pay for the short course....you will miss all the best lines and views! Will continue to go here and hope more people visit and support this great museum. read more

I have adored this place since childhood. Today, I'm not quite as enamored. This place is still a gem, but it's not the oasis of fascinating experiences and information it was decades ago. Today, it is tired and worn, overgrown and unkempt. That aside, it's still a good place to spend a day outside and see a variety of plants and animals. A warning, this is not a wheelchair accessible experience. You can trudge through the grounds with a really sturdy wheelchair, but be prepared to push it through sand again and again. Sadly, I can't give our visit more than 3 stars. If you've never visited don't let the rating deter you, it's a sweet spot, just not as sweet as it has been. read more

The Tallahassee "Junior " Museum is always a good choice for our family. We have 17 month old babies, kindergarteners and twenty somethings to entertain at times. This is a great place to go with friends, family, and even young kids. I had some friends visiting from south Florida so I wanted them to do something fun and outdoors. We tried the tree to tree adventures at the museum. We did the intermediate level adventure which was about $28 a person. First you are guided to an area where you sign a waiver, get your equipment, and learn how to complete the adventure. Ours was called canopy crossing and included a mixture of obstacles in the canopy of the tree and ziplining. Our instructor showed us all the skills necessary on the ground and then we practiced until we were good enough to be signed off to begin the obstacle. Some of the obstacles were scary and I wouldn't recommend if you are scared of heights. The zip lines were a ton of fun but shorter than expected. This adventure took about an hour to complete. Would highly recommend. read more

Tallahassee Museum - Crossing through the canopy - Museums Near Me - Tallahassee, Florida

I grew up visiting the Tallahassee Museum on the reg. It's located on a beautiful piece of land. The views from of lake Bradford/lake Hiawatha from the boardwalk are beautiful. Growing up, I loved it - I think most small kids still will. I recently revisited with my 5 year old niece who loved pointing out the red wolves and bob "kitty kats". While I, like her, love being able to see Florida wildlife up close, I hate the state this museum/park is in. Walking along the wildlife trail, you're greeted by large banners with the animals of the park, but the informational panels about the animals are absolutely ancient and falling apart. The railings on the boardwalk are soft and warped, which is especially dangerous thanks to the fall and gator-ridden waters of Hiawatha beneath. Certain segments of the boardwalk are so decrepit that they have been blocked off completely. Don't even get me started on the "nature trail". If you're from Florida - this is just your backyard, but larger. If you're not from Florida, it's still not worth your time. It's a large field of brush, scrub and weeds vaguely circled by an ill-defined path (no ropes, just intermittent stumps). If you were hoping to get the weeds identified, think again - you'll see 1-2 faded tree identification signs buried in the trees as you walk. With the lack of attention shown to their facilities, it makes me wonder how much attention the animals are given. read more

The Tallahassee Museum is a must see when in Tallahassee. They have an animal exhibit featuring rescued animals native to Flordia (Make sure you visit the otters!) with educational information about them. Elevated walkways provide good views of the animals along with a nice stroll through natural Flordia swamp lands. While I have not got the chance to try it yet, an elevated ropes course traverses through much of the park providing a fun and unique experience for an additional cost. While the museum is not completely handicap assessable, due to some of the elevated walkways, they do provide a golf cart free of charge for help getting around. Especially since the ground is natural (i.e. dirt). read more

Took my two-year-old and five-year-old niece here while we were visiting Florida. Good to see the Florida nature and wildlife that Florida has to offer. We saw a black bear, panther, foxes, Wolf, vultures, so much more. They have zip lines for adults and kids that run throughout. The facility. Beautiful with the swamp and the trees. There was an indoor fish tank area, but there were no fish. Right outside of that there were many turtles of various different sizes. They have a wooden plank walkway through out that you used to see the animals (stroller friendly) In the back they have some old-time cabins where we actually saw people forge a sword/knife. They have a snack bar. It's small and the line was superlong. But it was better than nothing. They had sandwiches, Gatorade, chips, etc. read more

A great deal has changed at the Tallahassee Museum since I came years ago (about 2004 or 2005). They have enclosed their cafe (hooray, the previous was just screened in and hot in summer), added zip lining courses for young and old (you must meet certain height requirements to do the higher course), added a dinosaur path made of old car parts (very cool), and a playground with newer kid-friendly parts (mural, chimes you can play, climbing wall with rope, slides). Unfortunately the Bradford bridge you can cross over was closed due to flooding, but the entire property is gorgeous. Patrons are able to see the south at its finest, cypress trees dipped in ebony waters with moss stringing along the trees like Edison bulbs strewn about an outdoor seating area. My kids loved it and thanked me for taking them. Customers get a chance to see an old Florida farm in real life (a few of the structures date back to the late 1800's) and enjoy history in a real world setting. I highly recommend this stop for those with kids or those who like to enjoy the outdoors and see native wildlife. read more

Brought my 9 year old granddaughter to Tallahassee for a birthday weekend. This was one of many places we visited. It was an excellent choice. Next time we will add zip lining to the adventure!! Got a membership here, which is a good deal! It is a great place to take kids. They have a decent amount of things to see, with lots of animals. It's more zoo than museum, IMO. There is a Florida farm section with barnyard animals and great depictions of how life was in the big bend back in the day. There is also the Florida wildlife which as everything from bears to wolves. One of my son's favorite places to stop is the train caboose, which is next to the plantation house which is also pretty neat to walk through. They also have a playground, but it has a steep slide which my son is now terrified of, haha. Their zip line/ ropes course looks awesome and is always popular... too bad I'm pregnant and can't take advantage of that one. The only negative is that it gets too dang hot in the middle of the summer. TIP: don't wear flip flops, you walk on dirt and mulch most of the time. read more
