There is also an awesome Skate Art Park here if you would like to shred a few. Some notable shops include Blake's Body Bars, Cap City Video Lounge, Campus Greek, Cat Family Records, What You Got? Thrift Store, The Other Side Vintage, Sweet Boozy Cakes Bakery, Ryder's Water Ice, Morgan's Dog Training, Prime Tatoo Company, The Greenery Floral&Tuxedo Place, The Bee's Knees, Steelyard Gym, and Taste of Miami. There is over 200 free parking spaces in the park and there is free street parking within a reasonable walking distance. There is a patch of open green space outside of the virtual reality arcade. I saw some people playing catch there and also playing with a volleyball. On the first Friday of every month, the park hosts the very popular "First Friday Gallery Hop," an event that provides a lively, enjoyable experience with open galleries/shops, live music, and food. I really enjoyed this place. This is a must visit while you are in Tallahassee. You can easily spend a half day or more here. I'm proud to have attended an "open to all" public gathering that brings people together in such a peaceful, joyful and respectful way. I struck up conversations with several co-attendees and a couple of event staffers who were quick to give food recommendations and had fun stories to share! There's a large parade that touts local business and communities to those viewing the parade. I've walked in the parade back when I lived in Tallahassee, as well as stood in the front trying to grab free beads and candy (is all I can remember as a kid). Oh, childhood. I recently ran the Springtime Tallahassee 10K. I regret so hard because that s*** is HARD! I had trained on a medium level 10K pace and interval, with some long but mild hills, and I had trouble finishing this one. I wish I ran the 5K... or the mile fun run lol. The advantages to finishing this race are: 1. Free beer, Publix donuts, fruit, bagels, water, free beer... (yes, note the repetitive nature of free beer) 2. Medal for everyone, because we're all winners 3. Free beer 4. Parking in the early morning is MUCH easier than after the race. If you're planning on staying downtown the rest of the morning/afternoon for the festivities, I advise getting out here early and running with the rest of us to ensure you get a perfect parking spot. Springtime Tallahassee is a classic festival for the natives and the visitors. Wake up early and check out what local Tallahassee fun is like!

The selection of rides was impressive, and my kids had a blast, especially with the classics like the Ferris wheel and bumper cars. The fairgrounds were well-organized, and clean. The food was typical fair fare--corn dogs, turkey legs, funnel cakes, popcorn, and fried everything! While the prices were a bit high, it's part of the fair experience, and we enjoyed trying a little bit of everything. One highlight was the livestock exhibits, which offered a nice break from the excitement of the midway. My kids loved seeing the animals up close and learning a bit about them. Be sure to bring some cash for the games and food as some vendors charge a fee for using a credit card no matter the amount spent. Plan ahead and look at the tickets/rides specials online. Will definitely visit again next year.

Tallahassee served as Florida's First Capitol because it was located midway between St. Augustine…read moreand Pensacola. Lawmakers needed a central location as the journey from east Florida to west Florida was treacherous during the early 1800s. On a mission to find a mutually agreeable location, two sets of explorers met midway at former abandoned Native American settlement known as Anhaica. This became early Tallahassee which means Old Town (Talia+Hasi) in Creek/Seminole. The first Florida Capitol was a log cabin built in 1824. One hundred years later, a temporary replica was built. Another temporary full sized replica was built in 1974 for the sesquicentennial celebration. My dad was on that committee which inspired him to advocate for building a permanent replica for the bicentennial celebration in 2024. It was so interesting to hear about the process of building this most recent First Florida Capitol replica. So many people donated their time and energy. From sifting through historical records, to creating authentic floor plans when few existed, to donations of logs, to getting permits, it was a challenging to bring this project, a dream for my dad, to life. Having grown up in Tallahassee, I have always loved Florida history. It is nice to see a piece of history being brought back to life and to have my family play a role in that legacy. Florida is so different from when my grandparents moved to south Florida a century ago in the 1920s. I am happy to see history preserved while the city and state continue to grow. #2900

There are walking paths that loop around and through and must go for several miles. They have a small amphitheater in the middle where I'm sure there are performances and concerts here and there. A big splash pad is on one side, and I know the kiddos love that especially on a warmer day. They have a big playground on the other side, and there are some bathrooms as well just in case. Intertwined are some pond/ creek areas that add to the beauty of this park. It's a super lovely walk around, and my favorite part are the pillars towards one end that tell the history of Tallahassee- racial tensions, civil war and repair and more. It brings more light onto the capitol city and its roots.
