The Knott House Museum is a cute southern home that maintains a pieces of Tallahassee History. It…read morewas built in 1843 and was owned by many people during the years after. It is known as the Knott house because the last owners were William Knott and his wife Luella. William worked as the state treasurer during the times of the great depression. This house shows a lot of the items his wife collected and the kind of lifestyle they had back in the day. The museum gives daily tours and the day I came there were free mini versions. We were shown the downstairs floor of the house. It has old furniture that was brought throughout the country and though some of it does not completely match, the house looks cool. Poems were written to pair off with each item of furniture to give a little entertainment. All of the decorations and furniture are fragile and nothing is to be touched without cloth gloves. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. The house is decorated for the holidays and so it is ever changing style while maintaining its history. If you ever seem to wander around downtown Tallahassee or want to get some easy education then stop by the Knott House.

Tallahassee served as Florida's First Capitol because it was located midway between St. Augustine…read moreand Pensacola. Lawmakers needed a central location as the journey from east Florida to west Florida was treacherous during the early 1800s. On a mission to find a mutually agreeable location, two sets of explorers met midway at former abandoned Native American settlement known as Anhaica. This became early Tallahassee which means Old Town (Talia+Hasi) in Creek/Seminole. The first Florida Capitol was a log cabin built in 1824. One hundred years later, a temporary replica was built. Another temporary full sized replica was built in 1974 for the sesquicentennial celebration. My dad was on that committee which inspired him to advocate for building a permanent replica for the bicentennial celebration in 2024. It was so interesting to hear about the process of building this most recent First Florida Capitol replica. So many people donated their time and energy. From sifting through historical records, to creating authentic floor plans when few existed, to donations of logs, to getting permits, it was a challenging to bring this project, a dream for my dad, to life. Having grown up in Tallahassee, I have always loved Florida history. It is nice to see a piece of history being brought back to life and to have my family play a role in that legacy. Florida is so different from when my grandparents moved to south Florida a century ago in the 1920s. I am happy to see history preserved while the city and state continue to grow. #2900

There are walking paths that loop around and through and must go for several miles. They have a small amphitheater in the middle where I'm sure there are performances and concerts here and there. A big splash pad is on one side, and I know the kiddos love that especially on a warmer day. They have a big playground on the other side, and there are some bathrooms as well just in case. Intertwined are some pond/ creek areas that add to the beauty of this park. It's a super lovely walk around, and my favorite part are the pillars towards one end that tell the history of Tallahassee- racial tensions, civil war and repair and more. It brings more light onto the capitol city and its roots.

This was my first time at the North Florida Fair and it was a fun experience for the whole family…read more There was something for everyone to enjoy, from rides to games and a variety of food options. The selection of rides was impressive, and my kids had a blast, especially with the classics like the Ferris wheel and bumper cars. The fairgrounds were well-organized, and clean. The food was typical fair fare--corn dogs, turkey legs, funnel cakes, popcorn, and fried everything! While the prices were a bit high, it's part of the fair experience, and we enjoyed trying a little bit of everything. One highlight was the livestock exhibits, which offered a nice break from the excitement of the midway. My kids loved seeing the animals up close and learning a bit about them. Be sure to bring some cash for the games and food as some vendors charge a fee for using a credit card no matter the amount spent. Plan ahead and look at the tickets/rides specials online. Will definitely visit again next year.

There were many boats out on the water, and many cars parked in the parking lot. The bathroom facilities were closed, like the museum. A couple of pamphlets were in a freestanding covered box. We used one to walk around the grounds, returning it to the box when we were done. This is a largely shaded area, so it was not as hot as the temperature said. As we walked around, we encountered a family of four, and we all kept our social 6 foot distance. We didn't see any birds, which seemed strange, or any other wildlife except for butterflies. It was a very pretty area, and someday we'll return to see the museum.

Seriously, the food is wonderful and I have enjoyed the festival over the last couple years with the best of friends. I'm a huge fan of the potato knishes and falafel, but the kugel has a special place in my heart too. The food portion of the festival is found inside, separated into two halls, Bakery/Desserts and Main Dishes. Queue up in the Main Dishes hall first, as food goes fast and you wouldn't want to miss out. It can be a bit chaotic with so many people, so you should always ask it you get turned around and don't know where to go. People are happy to help! I usually want to try a bit of everything, so it's best to divide and conquer with all the lines. Once you're set, don't forget to grab a dessert or two in the Bakery hall and then find a table. There is setting in the inner courtyard or outside under the tents. You have the added bonus of the music outside, just FYI. Finally, after all the feasting is done, take the time to wander and take in the craft booths and other cultural aspects of the festival. It's a great time and I look forward to it every year!
