This is our 6th consecutive year at this tree farm for Christmas. Our trees are always healthy, long lasting, and reasonably priced. They will even cut the tree you choose for you, which saves my husband's back! I love the barn with the fresh cut boughs and wreaths- they use the branches they remove from trees to make decor, I love that they aren't going to waste! They will drill a hole in the bottom if you want one and will secure your tree nicely. If you go on a week day and it's not too crowded, they have the warming house that's full of decor and ornaments. Great selection, also reasonable prices. Our kids, who are now teenagers, still love this family tradition! They have an old truck for a great picture backdrop as well. read more

This is a tradition every year finding the perfect tree at Tall Timbers Tree Farm. The staff is super friendly and they have a hay ride out to the fields that the kids love to just ride on! They serve hot cocoa and wrap the tree for you after shaking all the dead needles off so they don't get in your home! Highly recommend this place for families especially. They have a huge selection (and due to lots of business, have opened another field of trees around the corner, but they provide transportation between that and the main section). Tons of different types of trees in all sorts of sizes. You can pick your tree out super early and tag it, or just go during the holiday season and find something. Even late in the season the still have a lot of options available. You can cut your own tree down, or you can have them cut it. They're quick, friendly, and efficient. They'll cut it, haul it up front, shake out all the dead needles, tie it up, and load it onto your car-and that all only takes a few minutes! Rain, snow, or whatever, they're out there ready to help. This place is literally right around the corner from my parent's house and we have purchased our Christmas tree from them for over 10 years now. They really run a fantastic business. The trees are beautiful and I appreciate them now more then ever since I moved to Chicago. They keep really good care of the trees and trim them year around so that they are perfect by December. Their prices are quite good for fresh cut trees, and they have the process down to a science. You head out to the tree stand. They will drive you out hayride style on a wagon pulled by horses if you don't want to walk. Once you find a tree, run the flag up the flag pole to alert the staff at the barn. They will come out on their 4x4, cut down your tree, and haul it back, were they put it on the tree shaker, bail it, and strap onto your car for you. Really, there is no heavy lifting until you get home. In addition, there is also cocoa available for purchase, a beautiful selection of fresh wreaths, and a little shop in which you can buy lovely Victorian style tree decoration and ornaments. The whole place looks, smells, and feels like Christmas. They also have these really great tree stand things that are way better then the traditional ones that usually involved the tree falling over. Its a spike with legs and they drill a hole in the bottom of the tree. It doesn't sound like much, but its friggen brilliant and my dad swears so much less now. Tall Timbers is really only about 2 hours from Chicago. So it's not completely unreasonable to drive in from the city and make a day of tree shopping. read more

Our family went to get our Christmas tree yesterday. Our family tradition has always been that we get the tree the day after Thanksgiving, but we were blessed this year in that our oldest daughter came home from Florida to celebrate Thanksgiving with us for the first time in over 10 years. We were so worried that we wouldn't be able to get a tree because so many places don't open until after Thanksgiving. We found this BEAUTIFUL place by accident! First, the gift shop is stunning. We spent a LOT of time in there and everyone found things that they love and that will be a part of many Christmases to come! The outdoor shop with wreaths and swags was decorated so lovely. It was easy to choose our tree from the samples provided! What a great idea! The ride out to the trees was fun and the driver was so nice. We have always cut down our own tree, but the driver cut it down with a chainsaw and loaded it up. They baled it so nice with rope, so NO mesh to mess with once home!! This was the most efficient and easiest we have ever had getting our Christmas tree. Thank you for an absolutely wonderful day with my family. My only suggestions are to play Christmas music out over some speakers or something, and bring in a wandering Santa for the kiddos. Thank you, thank you, thank you, and Merry Christmas!!! read more

More than a little disappointed with our visit today. Our two families stood around for 30-40 minutes before we left without getting our trees. Understaffed and a little disorganized. As this is our first problem here we will try to give it another shot next year. Hopefully they will have more transportation out to the field next time. read more

This is a perfect place to get that ever-so-fresh Christmas tree! They have several huge fields in which you can select your tree. They have heated mini-buses that will take you to the field of your choice. From there you can cut your own tree, or point to the one you want and a friendly worker will cut the tree down for you and haul back to the main shed for free. I think I counted 8 different types of trees to choose from. Some were pre-cut, but they were all offered as cut-your-own. The staff were extremely friendly and willing to help you. Prices were very good for a tree this fresh. I got a 6' Frasier Fir for $45. They have nice pre-made wreaths and swags as well. It's definitely worth a trip up to check them out. You can event tag your tree in the summer time and come back and cut down in the winter time! You won't be disappointed with Tall Timbers! read more
