Primrose School at The Parks DC - Primrose Schools teacher supervising toddler on purple slide at outdoor early childhood playground

The staff is caring and knowledgeable. The facility is clean and well organized. The front office staff is quick to respond and so very pleasant to work with. I know my daughter is well cared for, safe, and happy when she is at Primrose and there is nothing better than that.

He kicks his legs with excitement everytime we pull into the parking lot. The staff are experts. Dr. Noveno the head of school is so loving with the kids and very involved in every classroom. The teachers in the toddler room plan amazing lessons. They treat each kid like a little artist and everything is very project based. The facility is clean with great toys for learning. And the playground is safe and wonderful for the very youngest of learners. They use an app which provides updates including photos and videos. As a new parent, leaving my child at daycare made me very nervous. But the staff has my full trust and their stellar communication has given me great confidence. I see my child being social and exploring at such a great pace. I really think it takes a village to raise a child and I consider Primrose a part of ours. We are very grateful.

I'm utterly shocked and disappointed to be writing this review. We used to love Casa Lala, and were…read moreadvocates of their after-school program and summer camps, which both of our kids attended. However, the manner in which they handled the case of our 6-year old being physically abused by one of their teacher is absolutely SHOCKING. The apathy, and eventual attempt to turn the case (of physical abuse against a child) into a case of parent-teacher conflict is appalling. I have attached pictures of my email exchanges with the Casa Lala team, and their poor handling of this case. Going by their Google Reviews, this is not an isolated incident. Another parent who reported abuse against their child was treated unfairly too.

My daughter has been going to Casa Lala since the beginning of the 2022 school year for aftercare…read more At the time, I was just looking for a convenient option and wasn't really picky other than "Don't make me pay you to put my kids in front of a TV because I can do that at home for free". I heard from other parents that they loved the Casa Lala summer camp program so we enrolled the kid there for aftercare since the Taylor street location was a closer pickup for us. Casa Lala has two other locations which are actually home based daycares but the Taylor street location is a school-like space that used to house Breakthrough Montessori. Casa Lala is also montessori based and the director, Lala, is well loved by parents and kids. When I did a tour of Casa Lala, Lala was intent on showing me every classroom and room (even storage and offices!) and every classroom we went to, kids would run to hug her and yell "Lala!" Some of these kids are 10+ and she watched them when they were babies. She's been running a daycare from her home for over 10 years and I believe helped set up the program at LAMB. She is SO passionate about montessori style education and all the teachers are intentional about the environment and what the kids are exposed to and how they are learning. It's already a great space but Lala is still working on renovating it to feel more like a home/cozy environment. She was telling me she's trying to design one of the spaces to be a plaza where the older kids can meet and roam in. And there's a cute outdoor scooter space. I would ask them for a tour if you are interested, I learned a lot about early childhood philosophy from Lala in just 20 mins. She just exudes excitement and passion. And I can tell from the way the staff greet her and interact that she's a great boss whose passion is infectious. Every staff person I've met is friendly and welcomes my kid by name. And the kid loves going there she talks about it all the time. I would check out their website but I believe they offer day camps, school break camps, before/aftercare, and daycare as well.

We couldn't be happier with the program overall!…read more We have three kids: one has graduated out of Family Academy, and two are still attending. We started our oldest at home with a nanny, but moved him to Family Academy when he was three. We started our second at Family Academy then, too (he was 10m). Our third baby started at Family Academy when he was 5m. So between them, we have worked through all of the classrooms. We have been thrilled with Family Academy and, even though our nanny was fantastic, I don't doubt for a second that our boys (and us parents) were better off with them in the program. The teachers at Family Academy are incredibly nurturing, patient, and communicative, and the student body itself has been great and diverse, too. The teachers helped us navigate many issues, as first time parents, in a way that was child-first and also encouraging for us. This spanned everything from wondering if our kids were hitting speech milestones, to navigating potty training woes, and inevitable illnesses. We've found Ms. Rima and all the teachers to be great allies, understanding, and helpful. The boys are also constantly doing arts and crafts (even when we would've thought they were otherwise too young) and the Montessori classroom has been wonderful, too. No doubt our oldest was beyond kindergarten ready when the time came! I really only have one less than perfect score to give and, even then, it has been absolutely fine. I don't love that there's no field or big open area. I used to worry that our boys would feel cooped up. But I've seen over the years that they're all perfectly happy and fine with the schoolyard set up. So this was me worrying about something, but it hasn't been a problem. 10/10 I recommend Family Academy to everyone in our orbit!

If it weren't for that, we would have loved for him to stay here as long as possible. It's hard to put into words how incredible this place has been for our family. From the days when he could barely lift his head, to learning to walk, talk, sing, and share stories about his day, we've watched him grow into a happy, curious, and confident little boy--all thanks to the loving care and nurturing environment of Family Academy. He not only learned language and knowledge, but also good manners and a true love of learning. The teachers are absolutely amazing--kind, patient, and so easy to communicate with. My son is a slow and picky eater, yet they always gave him extra time and gentle encouragement. They care for each child as if they were their own. The administration team is just as wonderful; they know every child by name and engage with them warmly every single day. What makes Family Academy so special is not only the quality of education but the genuine love and attention they give to every child. The environment encourages exploration, creativity, and curiosity about everything in the world. I could see every day how happy my son was here.I am deeply grateful for everything the Family Academy has given to our son and to our family. This school is truly a treasure in the community, and I would recommend it wholeheartedly to any parent.

My son has been there since he was 4.5 months old, and it has been such a relief leaving him with people in whom I feel confident to provide excellent, attentive care. This is a family run business and the owners are truly invested in its success, and it shows. The teachers are sweet and caring, and the curriculum--even for babies--gives kids lots of opportunities to explore. I like that teachers and students alike come from diverse backgrounds--black, white, Filipino, Ethiopian, Japanese--and speak different languages during class. The teachers also provide me highly-detailed notes of my baby's daily activities, which is really helpful and something important to me in choosing a childcare provider. They also make it EASY--washing bottles and feeding utensils onsite and giving heads up when you need new supplies. Overall very happy with my childcare experience--and I also feel good about supporting a neighborhood business in Petworth/Brightwood.
