I was just wandering around this neighborhood when I saw their sign, with its strange blend of Japanese and Korean. I can read Korean but I wouldn't be able to tell you what the meaning of that sign is--it's some kind of slang that I'm not familiar with. It was closed at the time but I could see through the windows that it was a pretty cool place, with funky decorations and art. I vowed to come back, and a few days later that's exactly what I did.
It was around 6:30 so it was a young, hip-looking after work crowd. I thought it was pretty funny that I was the only Asian in the place and I was a tourist. There are some other Korean signs sprinkled throughout, like to the bathrooms and stuff. You order at the bar and they bring out your stuff to you. They have a pretty good happy hour menu--the food prices are a downright bargain for Zurich. I got the currywurst plate and a beer. I was chatting with the very nice bartender and I asked her what the significance of the Korean was, and she said that one of the owners was Korean. Oh, ok, mystery solved. I parked myself at one of the tables by the windows, which were cracked open to let in the night air and cigarette smoke from the patio. I enjoyed the currywurst plate very much; generous portions and it had a very nice spicy sauce accompanying the tender little weiners. The big puffy papadam pieces (like a deep-fried Indian tortilla) were a nice accompaniment. All in all, a very cool place, one that I wouldn't mind visiting again--for happy hour, of course! read more
