Let me preface this by saying I like Dr. Hyder alot, however my entire family, parents, siblings,…read morechildren, spouse, have been patients of Patterson Ave Family Practice for 40+ years, since Dr.Taylor in the old building. In the past few years it has become basically impossible to schedule an appointment, speak to anyone in the office, get a response to an inquiry in a reasonable amount of time, or even get a "sick visit". All they do is push you towards Urgent Care or the ER. How is that looking out for your patients? The last thing anyone wants when they are legitimately sick is to go sit in a waiting room for hours to be seen by someone who may not even be an actual Dr and knows absolutely nothing about you. I hate to say it, my Dad loved Dr Hyder and I have as well but Bon Secours has run the entire practice into the ground. I'm sure its the way of the world now but one would think that a Healthcare system supposedly rooted in religion would care more about their patients than the almighty dollar. If this is any indication of what "universal healthcare" would be, I sincerely hope it never happens.

My family and I have been patients of Dr. Carl's for several years. I cannot begin to express how…read moremuch of a valued member of our family he and his staff truly are! We have several members of our family with very specific health needs and Dr. Carl and his staff keep us up to date so we don't have to remember all of the details! They take care of it for you. Making appointments is as easy as can be. Prescription refills are always checked and evaluated and dispensed appropriately. Cathy is the lead nurse and she is always super organized and extremely helpful and communicative! Colleen is such a sweet and welcoming member of WellcomeMD. I always love seeing her face!:) Heidi is fabulous on the phone and great with communications. She gets the job done! But when it comes to your health, your relationship with your doctor, it's an intimate dynamic because it requires clarity and trust on the part of the doctor and patient. Dr. Carl is so relaxed that he puts his patients at ease immediately. He is thorough and goes through all of your blood panels with you one-on-one and makes excellent suggestions and also is complimentary if he feels that you are doing well. He will prescribe supplementation only if it is reflected as needed in your bloodwork. Personally, my blood pressure zooms up every time I go to the doctor. But with Dr. Carl, he brings it back to normal and puts me at ease. Obviously, my entire family and I are fans of WellcomeMD. I recommend Dr. Carl and Dr. Colfer to everyone I know! As an aside, we drive 1.5 hours each way, just to be a part of their practice. They are THAT good.

If you have $2,500+ to throw away, go ahead. Trying not cry that I did. I was desperate for help in…read morecoordinating care and finding out what is causing severe health issues. Instead, specialist appointments all over the place (need a spreadsheet), less central/ coordinated than ever, and yet another thing to manage, as reminders to contact Wellcome for x, y, z are needed. Worst of all, still no answers. Still no genetic or allergy testing. Zero discussion or advice about supplements, etc., which I expected would be forefront. It's just a pcp gatekeeper, like when you had a pediatrician. Now looking for a new pcp coordinated with specialists (perhaps VCU), somewhere with expertise in areas of need. And sadly (trying not to be sick over it (pun intended)), still have months on the Wellcome contract ($$$ :( ).

I never did anything to cause this behavior towards me. What did I do so bad to be treated this way? Now, I am scrambling to find care. Dr. Stein is not the honorable person I thought he was.
