Dr. Marino is very knowledgeable about podiatry and sports medicine in general and my family is fortunate to have him as their preferred doctor, even at hours that might not have been convenient for Dr. Marino. Whether it is in his office or helping out on a youth sports field, where he can often be found on weekends, Dr. Marino has been there to treat many children playing youth sports in the area and we are thankful for his support and care. Besides being a great doctor, his volunteering of his time and skills to youth sports has made him a great role model.

I am working in a professional medical field…read moreand would have never imagined that a doctor in The US can be so absolutely rude and disrespectful to his patients ("Hey man... listen.... hey dude"...who talks like this?). This doctor is unable to communicate in a professional manner and to authorize medical documentation through the right insurance channels. Multiple clarification by my insurance and by me resulted in an unreasonable aggressive behavior and suggesting to change the doctor. Nothing professional here!

I came from…read moreWoodland Healthcare, leaving my primary care doctor of 20 years and the luxury of a small clinic (where you could injure your knee so badly you could barely walk and could see someone in orthopedics within a couple days, instead of the 6 weeks you have to wait at "Dignity"/ Mercy Midtown). But I digress...I was worried I wouldn't find a primary care doctor who I trusted as much as my former doctor. And then I met Dr. Aryal. I have never looked back. She is always responsive in addressing my health issues. When "Dignity" intercepts my email messages to her in the portal and tries to bury me in their bureaucracy, Dr. Aryal gets things back on track. She is an ethical physician who has treated me with the highest degree of care and compassion. My former doctor once walked out of our appointment when I showed up with a list of issues to address, but Dr. Aryal says "ok, so I will order blood work for this, prescribe this medication, and refer you to radiology. What else can I help you with?". She doesn't make me feel rushed, and she is an empathetic listener who asks questions. She is warm, genuine, kind, competent, and she knows how to navigate Mercy's ridiculous system. Dr. Aryal remembers to address me by the name I go by instead of my legal name (something that many doctors can't seem to do no matter how many times I ask them or how long [20 years] I've been their patient, which makes a good bedside manner seem impersonal). Addressing another user's post - I have several health issues including chronic pain. Dr. Aryal will suggest alternatives to drugs if she thinks the alternatives will be helpful to the patient, but she did not hesitate to prescribe me pain medication. Mercy Midtown also has a good pain management department Dr. Aryal referred me to. Additionally, Dignity called me to say "Dr. Aryal requires you to come in before she can refill your thyroid medication". When I told the caller that I had seen Dr. Aryal within the last two months and that I had recently had blood work to check my thyroid, I was told "Dr. Aryal says you need to come in." Dr. Aryal was upset when I told her this, saying that she had not said that, and that next time, I should email her and she will refill my prescription. That was the first of at least 4 falsehoods (that I'm aware of) that Dignity has told me over the phone - they try to make you comply with their policy and say it's something that your doctor said, when in fact, your doctor has no knowledge of it. This unethical practice is something that appalls Dr. Aryal and is greatly concerning to her. For this reason, I cannot imagine her lying about a patient, as the other reviewer stated, or exhibiting anything other than the highest ethical behavior.

I presented with a long term injury and after telling me to do all the things I'd already done for the previous year, her answer was to rub almond oil on it. That was it. (Yes, I did try it. No, it didn't help.) It became clear she didn't actually believe I had an injury or any related pain at all. She would smile and nod and then just give me some advice that I'd already tried or tell me to get almond oil. As my issue got worse, I asked for some pain relief and she treated me like a pill popper (despite zero history). She witnessed by symptoms get worse (and in fact they were at their worst under her care) and seemed to just think I was lying to get drugs, so she didn't prescribe me anything except Advil. It was really traumatic and difficult to be navigating the system while being in constant, extreme pain, wanting to get healed, and to have to have a doctor be so dismissive and disrespectful. I left her practice and requested my records to transfer to a new doctor. I found that in my records she either lied or confused me with another patient because several of my chart notes were just wrong. She documented therapies she never gave me, and history that I did not present with. When I complained about this, she dismissed me from practice. So....didn't help me, treated me like a druggie, made my issue worse, and then kicked me out when I complained about the mistreatment. I don't recommend Dignity at all. Their management is not patient focused and encourages this type of behavior in their docs, with no oversight if a patient is harmed. But, if you get stuck going to Dignity, try another doctor.
