We have been part of Take Five Dance Academy for 6 years, and it truly feels like a second home to my girls. They would spend every second of every day at the studio if they could! Not only have they grown tremendously as dancers, but they've also grown into more confident, kind, and hardworking young people. The teachers genuinely care about each child and are so intentional about helping them become the best dancers -- and the best people -- they can be. The CCT is wonderful and so friendly. They create such a positive, welcoming environment for families. They are organized, approachable, and always willing to help, which makes everything run so smoothly. As a parent, it brings so much peace of mind knowing our girls are part of such a supportive and well-run community. My older daughter has had the opportunity to be a demonstrator, and it has been such a special experience for her. She loves having the little girls look up to her, and it has helped her grow in leadership and confidence in such a meaningful way. The studio also provides so many amazing performance opportunities, which has helped both of my girls build confidence and shine on stage. My daughter started here at just 3 years old, and now at 17, we are still just as in love with this studio as we were on day one. We've had a great experience at Take Five Dance. My daughter loves her teacher Ms.Amanda! They've built a wonderful community and a positive environment in and outside the studio. I appreciate that the songs, costumes and choreography are always age appropriate and uplifting. They are also very organized and communication about class details and performances are clear and easy to access. This is not always the case at other dance studios so I appreciate knowing times, dates, and cost months in advanced. If you're looking for a dance studio for your child that will help them develop and make them confident, better dancers, this most definitely isn't the one to pick. If you like unprofessional teachers that play favorites and are flat out rude and bully students then you might like this one. Let me start with the absolute worst teacher there. Kristin is by far the worst. She has done nothing but destroy my child's confidence with her bullying and favorite playing. I'm not sure why Mary Ann (the owner) allows her to continue her antics and have so much power over who does what. It's obvious she either has no idea of how unprofessional Kristin is or is just as unprofessional as her staff. If you ever find your child in one of her classes, run, fast. It will only end badly unless you want to spend hours at the studio kissing her a$$ to get preferential treatment. If your child gets into one of their performance companies, be prepared for unending string of additional expenses as they dream up new routines they want to add. $100 a pop for each and every costume. You also won't find any additional opportunities for your dancer unless they are one of the favorites. Opportunities like dance conventions and college scholarships are only reserved for the two latest favorites and everyone else just gets it rubbed in their face. My child is so afraid of additional bullying and backlash she doesn't want me to talk directly with the studio or teachers. So we just tolerate the bullying and snide remarks. This will definitely be our last year at TFDA. We've frankly had enough after many years at this studio. Mary Ann, I don't know if you read these reviews or if you even care but I have to try. Here's some advice, treat people fairly and don't allow your staff to bully the dancers. There's a lot of talent in that building that is just waiting for the opportunity to shine. If you dote over a handful of students and give them extra training and opportunities, is it any wonder why they might do some things better? Imagine if you spent some extra time with some of your other amazing dancers. Maybe TFDA wouldn't perform so poorly at all these competitions we pay for. Other studios blow you away with the quality of their dancers which obviously shows favorably on their staff and their teaching methods. Maybe you should put the same amount of effort into everyone as you do your two personal favorites. We'll be voting with our money and taking quite a few people with us. There are so many parents unhappy with you and Kristin but maybe hitting your profits is what it will take to drive some positive changes. The owners of this business only care about one thing, getting every penny they can out of you. We are a military family and my husband was gone with the military for our daughter's first dance recital ever. When I tried to video a part of it to send to him a take 5 worker came over and tried to take my phone, even after I explained why I was doing it. I was told to purchase the $45 video, when I said I couldn't afford to purchase it (we had already spent $100+ on the costume, plus $15 per ticket to even get in to see the recital), the owner told me and I quote "I don't care.". It may sound silly but I am literally emotionally scared after the incident, it got very ugly! This was the PG, cliff notes version. The teachers at the school are the only reason I even gave 2 stars, otherwise I would have given 1! But they are not great enough to ever endure doing business at take 5. read more

I was very disappointed to learn of an incident involving a young black child (and her family) who was treated poorly at this studio. The owner clearly lacks customer service skills and cultural sensitivity. Based on that experience, I would NOT recommend this studio to friends or family. My daughters have been dancing at Take Five since 2010. We LOVE our dance family. The teachers are top notch and the owners really care about their students. They are organized, fun , age-appropriate, and professional. Dance, like any other sport can be expensive, but the quality of training here is worth every penny. I wish I could select negative stars!!! I enrolled my 4yr. old daughter in this studio with hopes that she would learn dance skills, build friendships and become a part of a network and dance family and community. Boy were my hopes shattered. I found out (a week before the summer dance recital) just how uncaring, discriminatory, racist and uncaring they are here. When I tried to speak with the directors regarding some specific issues, I received conflicting information. I then requested to speak with the owner. She called today and was very rude, condescending, and just overall uncaring about what our needs or concerns were. Being a POC(Person of Color) it was important to my family and I that our voices were heard and we felt comfortable with the representation that was supposed to occur.We were told that in order for the dancers to have uniformity they all needed to have flesh colored tights. When I inquired who's flesh. I was told that only Caucasian flesh tones were acceptable. When I tried to advocate for my daughter the owner actually laughed and said that going forward this is something that she will potentially address but for the summer recital, she would not allow my daughter to perform if she showed up with her skin tone colored tights! To add insult to injury this woman tried to pacify me with the old I have a black(insert names or relations) so I can't be racist;so I know exactly how you feel!!!! In the owner's case she claims to have biracial nieces and nephews so she knows just what I'm dealing with when it comes to the black experience in life. Needless to say I was more that upset. I mean We've paid our money always on time, showed up for classes. Bought the costumes, invited all of our family and friends and it was all for nothing. My daughter won't be dancing with Take Five Dance Academy. It really is sad because a little human decency, compassion, cultural understanding and compromise could have made the outcome much different. My daughter would be performing with her classmates next week, I'd probably continue to refer others to the studio and the relationship could have continued. Take Five, you really dropped the ball on this situation. Perhaps losing one student means nothing to you. This definitely could have been a much needed learning opportunity for you and your entire staff. We have encountered more horrible experiences with this company than better. My daughter was register for classes in December of 2013 for classes after she turned 3, despite their supposed rule of a child needed to be a certain age by September 1st. After being bullied by her teacher Ms.Pam my daughter was not promoted to the next level. It was explained to me, it was not a lack of her abilities but her immaturity, and that no student who wasn't 4 by September 2014 was not to be promoted. Although this was not what I ended up finding out. After talking to various parents I found out their children would not be 4 by September 1st but were still being promoted to the next level. Despite this, I said nothing and continued classes giving the teacher the benefit of the doubt. After attempting to converse with my daughters teacher about her progress after each class, I finally withdrew my daughter from Take5 after the teacher made a horrible face to describe my daughter and had no faith in her progress. When writing the director a letter about all my concerns, she made no effort to resolve the situation. After some time, my daughter asked to return to Take5 but just wanted a different teacher. After going through enrollment, which turned out to be a hassle, my daughter was enrolled with her favorite teacher Ms.Shannon and was thrilled. Upon seeing EMMA enter her class, Ms.Shannon showed nothing but complete excitement, and hugged my daughter welcoming Her to class. My daughters first class was wonderful, her costume was paid for, and she was excited. Then a couple of days later we received a call from the office of Take5 explaining their was a mistake, my daughter was not welcome at the facility and we were being un-enrolled because of an email that I wrote earlier in the year. After asking to speak with the director, which I was not permitted to, I was very angry and unfortunately did not represent myself the way I would have wanted to. Needlessly to say after several calls to Take5, the director never made an attempt to speak with my husband and I, and my daughter was exited from the program. The victim here is my daughter and no one at Take5 took the time to think of her. At this time, she is completely devastated and doesn't understand why the facility does not want her. Regardless if they didn't like me, they could have talked to me and not done this to my daughter. read more

My niece was enrolled at this dance studio. Ms. Pam was REALLY mean to the students. My niece said she was terrified of her. She told me that "MS. PAM" was mean to her and the other students. My brother gave them a less than perfect review on YELP which in return he received a confrontational phone call from one of the owners demanding an explanation of the review. The "gentleman" that called him actually used profanity demanding an explanation of the review! My brother hung up and him and this 'man' called back approximately three times. A few days later my brother received an email saying that Take Five Dance Academy had "officially" UNENROLLED my niece because of the bad review that was left on YELP! Take your business and your money somewhere else in Phoenix. Unbelievable that a business would conduct themselves in such a manner. This is truly unprofessional. Imagine what they do when parents aren't "looking!" They should set an example for all children. read more
