I recently had my oil change at this location. I was overcharged by quite a bit, I was not given a receipt and I asked for a military discount, that I did not receive. I have called about 15 times and cannot reach anyone and their voicemailbox is full. I have left a message at the call center for the District manager Troy to return my call and it has been 5 business days and I have yet to hear back from him. I will not be returning to this location or any take 5 for that matter. Also i will be sure to let others know not to do business with Take 5. What i paid did not add up and I believe I was taken advantage of and that the additional money was pocketed. I have called the call center and gave them the make and model of my car and asked how much an oil change cost and I have been given 4 DIFFERENT PRICES. No one here has been trained properly on what is actually going on and can give me the same set price. Very dissappointed and dissatisfied with my service, the customer service and the availability of anyone returning my call. Came in for a oil change at the Thorp lane location in San Marcos. All they did was change oil. Didn't bother to top off any additional fluids. Per they're web page says they check and top off all fluids. Wasn't done on our vehicle. Was told by tech that there was a oil and coolant leak. Didn't bother to say where. When she left the facility got 2 blocks away. Had to pull over due to engine overheating. I went back and asked tech for clarification on what was wrong. I asked if it was SOP to not check or top off all fluids. All he did was start stuttering. Never gave me a answer. I will never recommend or use this company for their services again. read more

On 1/30/24 I had an oil change and coolant flush at Take 5 #209. Unfortunately, following this service, my Outback was running significantly different, which led me to make an appointment at the Subaru dealership on 02/06/24. The Subaru dealership inspection revealed that my engine had been overfilled by 2.5 quarts of oil and that "an engine with too much oil will no(sic) move correctly." The Take 5 Manager has been completely unresponsive. I called on 2/14 and was told that I would receive a call back. 2/21 I stopped by Take5 to speak to the manager. I was told he was out of town and would be back the following day. I left the shop receipts from Subaru and take 5. At no point have I heard from the store manager. 2/24 I received a call from fleetresponce stating they represented Take5. I told them that I believe Take5 overfilled my vehicle with oil. I provided them with receipts from Subaru and Take5. I also pointed out a number of errors on the take5 receipt which underscore a lack of attention to detail and support my case. The errors include: - wrong zip code, mileage, and email address. I requested a refund from Take 5, and reimbursement for the oil change I need to get at the Subaru dealership to fix the my oil being overfilled by Take 5. Fleet response has denied my claim twice. They state they can tell the amount of oil being removed from my engine from a video. They refuse to tell me the oil extractor model or provide video evidence. I don't believe they can tell +/- 2qts based on the size of the drum that the extracted oil goes into - certainly not from a video. I submitted Complaint to BBB on 4/5, which fleet response (take5's claims management servicer) has yet to respond. read more

I needed to get my car inspection done and showed up early at the location on HWY 80. James was by himself and handling all customers efficiently and pleasantly. As it turns out I needed a brake light - he told me to go across the street to purchase it at AutoZone. I did that not realizing that I could've asked the very surly and not-pleasant worker to install it for me! I went back to Take 5, where it had gotten very busy, but James came over and told me he could put in the brake light really quickly for me since the guy at AutoZone has not done it. After a very reasonable wait, considering that there were still only two people working for a line of about five cars, James even noticed as I was checking out that they had misspelled my name the time before! I got my oil changed at Take 5 7 months ago and the tech stripped my filter housing so bad that I needed a replacement part. I came back a week ago from today to get it fixed (they discovered this issue when I came in for a routine oil change a week ago) was told a part would be ordered and I'd be called. I was never called after being promised to be called multiple times, and had to stop by a few times in a week to keep checking in. One tech told me for the inconvenience the oil change would be free, then I was told it'd be 50% off. A week later I still never got called. I stopped by today and for 40 minutes 5 techs stare at my engine and smack at it with hammers, trying to open the filter. Then they finish and I can tell they're about to refer me out, they give me a business card to San Marcos Auto Center to get a quote to fix it, then they'll pay for it. They never wrote this agreement down. Not gonna lie I snapped at the tech and whipped out of there. I got my car FIXED and oil changed same day by San Marcos Auto Center. I will NEVER go back to this location. The lack of communication with me about my car was ridiculous! And then before I leave they tried to tell me I don't service my car enough based on the CarFax (not sure why they even brought it up when they broke a part in my car). Well I pulled up my CarFax with San Marcos Auto Center and it clearly shows me getting it serviced regularly since I bought it. I have driven my car for a little under 2 months after getting an inspection here and needed to replace a recently damaged tired to find out my brakes were bad. They passed me and told me everything was good when in fact it was not. And apparently this is something that this chain does often according to my mechanic who almost worked for the company. Make sure they actually oil in your car!!! my son went in to get a oil change amd two days later his car broke down on the highway and had to take his 2018 low mileage new car to the dealership to find out the oil had not been changed out. Dealership checked the car and said there was no problem other than no oil in the car. And they said we were so lucky we didn't need a new engine due to the fact there was no oil in the car and he was driving it to work. I was blown away! One of the mechanics helpers, picked up a screw top that the other mechanic was checking the fluids from, he proceeded to chuck it into the stopped engine. Than he closes the hood! I was sitting in the car watching them under the hood. The other one had walked off. I got the other mechanics attention, told him what I saw, they than took a flashlight , found the part in the engine, and screwed it in where it belonged. I asked to speak w manager. Lee came over, I told him this service was "vandalism and totally unacceptable ." He apologized profusely and did nothing about it. My first time and last visiting this business.! When I went back for another one, they said they couldn't get the oil cap off because it was screwed on too tight...even though it was the same employee doing the change both times. After 30 mins and 2 different attendants giving it a try, they wanted me to take it to my dealership instead. I took it to the Take 5 on Thorpe instead and they got the cap off no problem and were super quick and efficient. BEWARE: THIS CAN COST YOU HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS! I started going to this shop in 1992, when it was Grease Monkey and they were great. Then they sold out to another place and they were just as good. But then they sold out to another company or just changed the name to Take 5 Oil Change. December of 2017 I went for a full-oil change but I'll never go there again. Not only did they not do a good job, but I had to go to another shop to see why the engine was not working very good. They told me that a certain part (I can't remember what they told me it was called, I'm not a mechanic) was knocked off, leaving a huge hole, which caused a multitude of problems. Mainly, the spark plug was basically burnt and leaves and other road matter filled the air filter. Due to that piece being knocked over my car was not getting the fuel it need to run properly and at times, even on the highway, it would just die on me. Take 5 Oil Change charged me close to $100 for a full-oil change (synthetic oil) and then I had to pay $238 to get what they did to my car fixed.
