Before the SmartClinics chain bought our local medical centre, it was ok. Nothing special, just ok…read more I mostly used it for convenience as it's very close to home. Though there are many places where for the money they charge I could get a similar or better level of health care with less waiting. After Smart Clinics bought our doctors, prices increased, nothing else improved, but gosh...... the pushy marketing tactics I have to endure are beyond acceptable. The new owners won't stop sending their marketing and advertising messages. All attempts to unsubscribe and take myself out of their hard-sell list failed. They disguise their campaign as caring reminders and just keep pushing it. It didn't stop even after I left the place and told them to stop exploiting my personal information that I gave them exclusively for the purposes of getting medical help. The administration of the local centre keeps apologising for the inconvenience, yet nothing changes. Perhaps, there is nothing they can do if someone at the top of the chain wants to run health care like car sales business and takes confidential information as an asset for generating more profits.

Doctor just tells me to take a panadol. Ugh. I could have saved myself $70 and the hassle of getting there when I can hardly move. This visit was with a rather nasty cough. It sounds like nothing, but i've never had one like this before. Different doctor, this one seemed okay, and I reckon he actually got it right. Unlike my regular GP where I never wait past my appointment time, this is the typical doctor; never on time. Still, open until 11pm, if you need a late night doctor visit but don't want to clog up the hospital emergency ward, this is one of your few options.

I have always received excellent treatment from Dr Kyaw Lin Tun for both myself and my grandsons…read more Never been one to go to a doctor all my life but blood pressure issues changed that. Decided to get a skin check and found I could do that at the same clinic with Dr Marcio Francisco. I was advised there would be a cost of $135 with a $75 medicare rebate which was okay. The fee would depend on the length of consultation as well. Made an appointment for 2pm. I arrived at 1.55pm and waited until 2.25pm. Had decided if I waited until 2.30pm I would have to reschedule as I had to collect my grandson from school. Consultation lasted 10 minutes with some liquid nitrogen applied. Advised to return in 12 months unless signs of bleeding after blistering went down. All good. Fee was billed as extended consultation at $185 by the doctor. Bit of double dipping I feel. Anyway I paid it and have never canned anyone before with a review but when I extended this to an hourly rate it exceeds $1000 hr which is no doubt depriving others of medical care. Probably not the epic review you keep telling it is at the bottom of the screen.

There are a few things you should know before you go to Everton Hills Medical Centre…read more The first thing you should know is that you won't find a kinder, more compassionate doctor than Michael Kennedy. He works ludicrous hours every day simply because he's a doctor who gives his patients the time of day. He listens to what you say. He asks questions about your hobbies, what you've been doing, and writes them in his notes. My record has segments in it that say "just returned from Detroit- likes muscle cars" for no apparent reason other than his own entertainment (I'm assuming). He's not ashamed to say "I don't know what's wrong with you" if that's the truth. He will go the whole hog and get you whichever bunch of tests he thinks you need. He's got a strong "we'll get to the bottom of this" approach to his work. He does have a tendency to be clumsy in this comically British way. I can't count the amount of times he's poured tea down his shirt. His office is cluttered, and he's a little disorganised, but it's all part of the charm. The point is, he's thorough, he actually cares, and you can trust that he's a doctor that will do all he can to help his patients. He even makes house calls. What a gem. There's a lot of people who think Dr Kennedy is the best thing since sliced bread, and so, he can be a little hard to get in to see. If you can, try and arrange an appointment for a few days ahead. Here's an important piece of information: He will always run late. He could be 15 minutes late, or he could be an hour and a half late. To save frustration, just call the clinic half an hour before your appointment to see how far behind he is. It will save you a lot of time in the waiting room, trust me. Despite the long waits, I keep coming back simply because he's the genuine article- for me, he represents what all doctors should be. While you're there, read his article that's framed on the wall about the Hypocratic Oath. If his article doesn't win you over, nothing will. Everton Hills Medical Centre doesn't bulk bill, and scripts will cost you around $5.00.

The hospital has a new feel to it because it is, relatively - a good decade or so they rearranged and rebuilt the whole complex. I've been in the E.R. (or "triage") a few times (kidneys misbehavin') and it's never fun to be a patient in hospital. However, there are "good" visits where you're seen to quickly and treated well and there are agonizing drawn-out visits where they've run out of beds and you're in the foetal position in a chair. I've experienced both in this hospital in the last two years. If you're ill on a Friday or Saturday night, you won't be seen to in E.R. quickly unless you're in extreme danger as the ward is filled with drunk idiots who've harmed themselves, as well as a few drug addicts who have stumbled into police hands. Generally I find the nurses here to be nice and helpful and the doctors absent-mindedly come and go. Usually during each E.R. visit you can expect to see up to three different doctors, and you have to get them all up to speed on your condition when they first visit. I find this to be a general hospital trend, though (at least in Australia and North America). From a completely different perspective, the pharmacy and the downstairs cafe here rock. I've had the best scones with jam and cream of my life at this cafe and the coffee is excellent, the vibe of the place funky. The last time I was here I noticed the cafe was closed, so I hope they're not shutting it down in favour of the new-ish large food court upstairs (though that's not bad food, either.) Also, the chemist here sells the best local artistic jewellery I've seen in Brisbane. The earrings in the $10-$20 range are fantastic; each is uniquely hand-crafted and the beads/stones are beautiful. Yep, the RBWH is my favourite jewellery store.

For the most part the staff are as helpful as they can be with someone with a chronic issue . Keeping in mind that this is a public hospital some of the nurses tend to treat chronic issues with disregard and disrespect. If you have the opportunity I would suggest going to another hospital as the RWBH has staff who can be rude and make you only feel worse then you did prior to coming in. A possible cause is it's proximity to the Valley night club district and they have seen their fare share of drug O/Ds and drunk lads passed out. My suggestion to any staff member in any occupation is that if you find that you can no longer do your job with respect and professionalism it's time to find a new career path.

I called up and got an appointment that morning, fortunately there had been a cancellation. They very helpfully told me over the phone it would be $90 (ouch, Sunday!) and also how much I would get back from Medicare (I was given the receipt and not offered the ability to have the refund processed on site like my GP does). They perhaps need a bell on the counter, because both ladies on reception are apparently vision impaired and don't see people waiting. The doctor I saw obviously didn't want to be there. At $90 for 5 minutes I think the doctor could at least feign not being so damn bored and wanting to be anywhere else but. Fortunately there's a pharmacy in the waiting room, and the lady working there was happy, friendly and helpful, pity the rest of the staff in the medical centre were the complete opposite. The two stars are for being open on a Sunday and the friendly pharmacist. Only come here as a last resort.

The main reasons being is that the Specialist Centre is right next door and it will only take a matter of seconds for your doctor to get to you in an emergency. The hospital is quite small which means it is quite personal. The hospital itself is only two levels which is good if you have elderly family who do not want to walk around a lot. The other thing I like is that they have 6 deluxe maternity suites (one of which I have booked!) which includes a double bed, ensuite, fully stocked mini bar, Foxtel, daily magazines and papers and fully catered breakfasts, lunches and dinners for both you and your partners. There is (of course) an extra charge for this which is about $190 per night and you will need to check with your health fund to see if you can claim any of it back. Take note that this is a private hospital and with all private hospitals, they will want to know whether you can pay or not so most conversations start of with "are you in private health". For maternity, they do private tours of the facilities on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month and I recommend doing a tour within the first 3 months of your pregnancy and again sometime in your second trimester. For the men/expectant dads, there is a pub next door (about a 2 minute walk away) - something my husband was pleased with :) As soon as I saw it, I knew this was the hospital for me.

North West Private Hospital is a smaller, suburban hospital tucked away in Everton Park. This ninety bed hospital does not have an emergency department so locals will still have to rush to the closest emergency department which is Prince Charles Hospital for accidents. It does have two day surgery theatres, three big operating theatres, a variety of consultant suites, two dermatological procedure rooms, an oncology unit and a recently upgraded maternity unit with beautiful single rooms plus ensuites. Apparently, there are even some deluxe maternity rooms with double beds for expecting mothers who may need a bit more moral support than just hand holding from their partners or who like to sleep in starfish position. Oh and I have it on good authority that the hospital food here is pretty delicious. Apparently the chef that works at the hospital has previously cooked for Princess Di!
