I became a resident of "TTT" in 1973. The 1970's were an era of brotherly love, community, service, and conservation of or National Parks and Forests. I loved my childhood set in the middle of a National Forest, neighbored by three reservoirs, and families that came together to build something unique in the wilderness surrounded by Pioneer history.
Over the decades the park has grown, and the infrastructure has aged. Our original residents have aged as well, and now the "Old Timers" reminisce about that golden era of volunteerism, the meaning of a handshake, and the spark that brought us all together.
As the park grew, so did the need to hire more seasonal workers. The job is tough: cleaning bathrooms, raking lots, clearing brush, digging ditches, and other maintenance. Sometimes the park makes mistakes in hiring and this results in disgruntled employees spreading rumors.
Yes, the playgrounds are not "modern". It's an Alpine environment. I still let my kid play there as they are just as safe as they were in the 1970s. Wood chips do not need to be raked daily and the pieces are assembled with bolts--not nails. I am more concerned about the occasional bear or new "Deer Mothers" protecting their young than I am the playground when it comes to child safety.
The water has the "best rating the county" according to the test results for the last several years, and we don't anticipate a change in that rating.
If you love the Tahoe National Forest, camping in trailers or tents, boating on small lakes, hiking the Memorial Emigrant Gap Trail, mountain biking, fishing, or any other Alpine Summer activity, joining this community may be right for you.
The neighbors we want to attract have a love for the environment, conservationism, volunteerism, and like to pitch in when a neighbor needs help. This is not a "vacation resort". This is not a "trailer park". This is a small community membership that enables folks to live a lifestyle seasonally, "in the middle of nowhere". We maintain a defensible space from forest fires, prepare for the winters, and maintain our grounds TOGETHER. If you are looking for a five star resort, campground with staff that caters to your needs, or a space to go "glamping", this is NOT the place for you.
Tahoe Timber Trails has been my "Summer home" for over 40 years. I love the location, amenities, and my neighbors. I hope MORE of my generation and those that follow (Millennials, Gen Z, etc.) discover this place and bring their "can do" attitude and love for community. The more of us that get involved and volunteer to preserve this park, the better!
