Truly Y.

Such a beautiful place!! So many places to hike, bike and swim. Along with many Awsome lakes theirs a ton of hidden swimming holes all over.

No lights around beautiful night skies to star gaze

This could possibly be one of my favorite camping spots I've been to. Driving into the city is a breeze but make sure you have a van, truck, or large car that can pull all of your camping gear, passengers up that curvy and sometimes steep inclines. The ride up is a nice one though but, if you get motion sickness or decide to do heavy drinking the night before you have to leave, bring a bag when you make your descent down to town. We love coming here because they have a secluded area just for groups. That means, there is no curfew like other campgrounds. We usually stay by the river, although freezing during the time we go, the kids love it and it'll wake you up. If you're concerned about your kids or teenagers always being on the phone have no worry. There is absolutely no reception up there. If you're looking for a fun secluded camping trip for your family, friends, or both, Tahoe National Forrest is it and where you want to be. If you're not into camping but love boating, there's a dock where you can go to also there's plenty of trails to hit up. There are wild animals so, be aware of your surroundings. The campground provides you with antibear storage for your food but, we haven't seen any bears yet from all the times we come here but, there are plenty of deers.

Simply put? A real life postcard photo. Regardless of the season, when you pass through, you'll think you've been transported to someplace that couldn't possibly exist. That's how beautiful this National Forest is. Plenty of lakes, both large and small, hiking for everyone, sno-parks, campgrounds galore, natural made beauty and even hidden treasures you can only find by exploring the nature around you. We found a motivational sign and a weird little tiki type head! I'm sure there's so much more out there. TNF is huge, spanning 6 counties, so who knows what all you can find out in those mountains. Definitely agree with stopping at the photo vistas! They have some of the best views for photo ops and selfies. But leave your selfie stick at home folks, that's rude..oh ya, and beware of the 5-0...they like to get you on that curvy, winding road(*_*) There's no wi-fi out here, but the connection you'll find is greater than that of any signal tower. Breathtaking. Inspiring. Beautiful. Get off your couch and go explore! I recommend a hike to any of the locations on the Pacific Crest Trail.

This time there weren't any parking spaces in the lot. We went around twice, but no cigar. We ended up finding a place on the street across from the back entrance. We lucked out. I also love that it's not as busy as kings beach. This time it was packed, but we still found 2 great spots. One in the shade and another in the sun right there on the sand and steps away from the lake. They offer boat rentals: Pedal boats and canoes or kayaks, I wasn't close to tell, it was one or the other. They also have 2 lifeguards on duty. If you get the munchies or are thirsty thy have a snack-shack. Unfortunately they were out of hot dogs. And lastly they have pretty clean bathrooms. 2 stalls in one and a family bathroom. They also have tennis courts. And a Basketball court and play structure for the kiddos. If you want a picnic table you can reserve one or just arrive early. If you want pick of spots arrive early. If you want a parking spot luck out when someone leaves or arrive early. Summer time is a prime time to come. It's $12 per person during the summer. If you come before the 4th of July the snack-shack is closed, but it's free to enter and there is plenty of parking. We usually come before the 4th of July so we were surprised to see some many people and a packed parking lot, but we totally get it, It was a perfect day. In the 80's not to hot or cold. They have a swimming area which the lifeguards patrol. It's pretty shallow near shore. If you bring your paddle board like many people do you can do this outside the swimming area. You are allowed to bring inflatables. Someone had a giant unicorn and another party had a giant round party float. I'd return, but I'd go earlier in the day if I come in the summer time to ensure we get a parking space. We arrived around 1pm and I believe it opens around 10 or 11am. So we weren't so late. There were just a lot of early birds.

The sand was actual beach-like sand and they had plenty of space to set up our small tent. Make sure to come early as finding parking is a nightmare. I dunno--what were you looking for out of a drive up a mountain in winter to learn about people getting stranded for making bad choices about winter in the mountains? It seems like a pretty good metaphor for something. They (the signs and the local authorities enforcing them) threaten that tire chains are necessary during winter weather events (which was most certainly a thing that was happening during our trip), but they seem to give you a pass for AWD and snow tires. Bring chains if that's not what you're driving.

We ate our lunch and then went to explore by the water. I bet this is a good place to go fishing during the summer. Beautiful to sit by the water listening to the water pass you by. The parking lot is quite big, has 2 clean vault toilets. Lots of trash cans around the parking lot with bear locks. If you come by the park, be sure to go up the road just around the corner from pull in to park. We heard about some old historic shop ruins on Hampshire Rocks Rd (aka- Old hwy 40) and decided to check them out. Per Google the old Gift & Fruit shop ruins and the other ruins are right around Luken Way, Emigrant Gap, CA 95715. We were not disappointed and so glad we stopped by. We love exploring with our granddaughter historic out of the way places and teach her about the history of what once was. There is a sign showing pictures and history of the area back in its hay days. The Forest Gift Shop (the taller building on the right), was built in 1938, sold souvenirs hand-crafted by locals. It has a beautiful fireplace and the woodwork on the roof inside is amazing. The Fruit Stand (the smaller building on the left) was known for selling orange juice, orange candy, and various different fruits. If you walk up the road past the big barn you will see some steps and an outline of the foundation for the old Chevron gas station we are told. Alittle farther down the road was a very cool rock fireplace and chimney and outline of a foundation from the Lodge. There are even two benches to sit and enjoy the forest inside the foundation wall area. Across the street there is a marker in memory of California Pioneer James L Gould. Once the construction of I-80 was completed, a decrease in traffic began along Hwy 40 resulting in the final closure of the Gift Shop and many other businesses along Hwy 40.
