We went in March when the weather was unusually warm this year and the water was f l o w i n g. There isnt much tree cover as there used to be after the fires in this area, so if you're coming on a sunny day, be well prepared with sun protection and water. The majority of the hike is uncovered if you start after the morning hours. Parking lot is decent sized, on the day we came there were hardly any cars at 9am, but we saw more people when we finished around 1pm. There's also vault toilets at the trailhead

I would say this is on the moderate to difficult side and wouldn't be a good hike for beginners. It is very scenic and there is some waterfalls which I have pictured here. All in all it was a beautiful day on the trails.

Showed them my veterans' card and she told me to pound sound. Was able to do this at this location a couple of weeks ago. She said if you want to pay Ten dollars I could go in and use the bathroom. And if i went in without paying she would have the ranger write me a ticket. She was doing all the talking and I was never rude to her. Just shows you the younger generation does not know the freedoms they have were fought for by the veterans. I am also a senior citizen. I am 63 years old. Went camping over the weekend at Loafer Creek. Stayed in site 94. They've cleared a lot of the…read moreunderbrush around that site so not nearly as much privacy as in previous years. The a holes in spot 132 decided to party until 4 o'clock in the morning and keep everybody up. Thanks for that. Lots of clean bathrooms, and a central shower area in the first loop provides reasonably priced showers with both hot and cold water. Apparently, there are no evening patrols in this particular campground. No enforcement of the reasonable time to be quiet. When we informed the people at the gate on the way out, they just looked at us blankly. I guess we'll have to contact the district office. Cell phone reception was mixed. People with AT&T did not seem to have good cell phone reception in most places. I have T-Mobile and got two bars in most places. My friend who had Verizon had full service and 5G If you get a chance, go to the waffle shop in town. That's literally the name of the restaurant. See Rachel at the counter for excellent service. Also in the area not to be missed is Jake's burgers.

Great park that is not ever crowded. Nice bathrooms but they are rarely open due to people…read morecontinuing to damage them. My son loves to ride his Bike here, walk the dogs, and check out the trains. We love that it's never crowded and peaceful. There are quite a few homeless but honestly, they have never bothered us. The play structure is not that big and often has stuff on it so we don't typically let the kids play on it. Over all it's a nice quite and peaceful park.

I tried to take my dogs to Dog Park today for some needed exercise since I'm visiting here in…read moreOroville I googled the park it seemed to be the only Dog Park in town. I followed the GPS directions and no go!!!! I was on HWY 70 for less than half mile when I needed to use the exit ramp and turn off into the park well shot there's no place to turn I could see the park next to river but no access road so I continues to try and go around the corner which put me in a sketchy neighborhood I backtracked my tracks and still could not get there. Due to traffic I just continued on but I did get a good look at the park and did look very very dry I don't know but you think the City would keep it clean and green... Sorry I have no pics.. I didn't get close enough to see if there are still homeless people.

Oroville's Most Famous Couple- Jesse and Cornelia…read more Charles Lott was a lawyer who came to Oroville from Quincy, Illinois, in the mid 1800s. He came west with the Quincy Party in hopes of finding gold. However, he soon discovered that gold mining was heavy, dirty work. He decided that practicing law, settling claim disputes and other matters, was more lucrative than trying to "strike it rich." Charles became a pillar in the community. He ended up becoming a very successful lawyer and eventually became a judge. He went on to become Senator of California in 1851. Eventually, he bought the parcel of land on the main thoroughfare and began building a home there. Meanwhile, he returned to his family home and met Susan Heyer of Pennsylvania. They were married and came to Oroville just as the house was being finished. The Lott's had three children, Charles Fayette, also called Faye, Cornelia Deare, and Sarah Virginia. Sarah died of unknown causes just before turning three. The two surviving Lott children had obvious undesirable traits. Faye was evidently not the most intelligent man. He apparently shunned work but loved to gamble and go to the bars downtown. He would get all dressed up and spend his time in these venues. Cornelia walked with a limp and had some sort of facial tic, apparently as a result of her mother falling down the stairs during pregnancy. For these reasons, Charles felt the only reason anyone would want to marry his children would be for their money. So, he forbade them to marry. However, Cornelia fell in love with Jesse Sank sometime before 1918. Even though her father would not allow them to marry, they maintained a relationship. Susan mother died when Cornelia was 26 years old. Charles hired a seamstress he had met during his travels and she took over the running of the household. She sent Cornelia to finishing school in San Francisco and made it extremely difficult for her to visit home during holidays and vacations. Charles died in 1918, and Faye followed in his father's footsteps in forbidding Cornelia to marry. It was not until Faye died in 1927 that Cornelia and Jesse were finally able to get married. They bought a 1922 Buick and traveled to various places, a rarity of the times. They frequently went on picnics and were very community minded. Jesse spent time working on the house and garden. Much of it was built especially for Cornelia. Jesse installed the fireplace, which included a very special message. He also built modern bathroom for her. After Cornelia died, Jesse continued to carry out tasks that had she had expressed as being her wishes. When he died, his will stated as she willed- that the home and garden be donated to the city as a museum. The couple never had children, so even though the home is over 150 years old only two generations lived there. Some of the furnishings on display are original to the house. Some are not original but are of the times and were donated. The lamp fixtures in the Music Room are original to the house. The table and chairs in the dining room were bought from the old Hearst Summer House near Palermo. Among the artifacts is a drawing of a horse done by Cornelia. Various artifacts are rotated for viewing approximately every three months. Some of these treasures are Battenberg Lace, antique toys, and even a framed piece made of human hair. The Buick is still at the house as well, stored in a carriage house that was built sometime after the original construction of the house. Go back in time by visiting the Lott Home in Sank Park. This is a restored home that was built in the mid-1800's by one of the original gold-rush settlers,…read moreand occupied by his family until the mid-1950's. It is a two-story building, sitting on about two acres near downtown Oroville. The outside, which you are free to wander, is well maintained and surrounded by some garden plots and a few outbuildings, one of which houses a restored Buick from 1922 that you can view through a glass separation. The inside, which you can tour for a small fee, has been completely restored and has many pieces of period furniture, household objects, and clothing that help show what the home might have looked like when occupied. And the docent I met was very knowledgeable about the house and the town, so she added a lot to the self-guided tour. It only takes about half an hour for the tour, but if you enjoy restored old homes, it is worth the short visit.

This place is so cleaned up and so nice it has everything it has the lake going through it it has a…read moreplay array with these little bears in it that the kids can sit on kind of thing it has toys they can ride on it's beautiful it's clean it's monitored with some security driving through once in awhile I was so impressed after seeing the other place the bedrock place and I was so disappointed this place was a thing of beauty

We were lucky enough to visit the dam on a beautiful day in spring…read more You can drive over the dam and there is plenty of parking on the other side, and even a picnic area. We had lunch and enjoyed the great weather and beautiful views. People were walking, biking and even roller skating over the dam. There is lots of educational information on the dam to read. The area is locked between 11pm and 5 am but otherwise open to the public and free for everyone to enjoy.

When I was in Oroville last year, I finally visited this area. And glad I did!…read more I took a walk along the walkway with a stunning view of the lake on one side and a breathtaking view of the town on the other. People walk, like I did, jog, walk their dogs, or just take a nice stroll through here. I went on a beautifully sunny day and was amazed by the sight and atmosphere of the area. Would gladly come by and take another walk in the future, because I wasn't able to explore the whole area.
