Chatted with several folks, some locals - some tourists, all were friendly. On of the best (prettiest, well planned) river access public parks I've seen along the Pacific coast states. Unfortunately there was SO many homeless around...laying on the tables..walking around...etc I only briefly got out of my car and decided it was unsafe to walk around! It was around 10 am (Saturday). It used to be a pretty decent park but the transients have taken over. NO police or security. Unfortunately do not recommend!!

This one is 40 minutes out of our way, you're actually nothing else we would need to go to so we drove out of our way to go here to celebrate my birthday since we have almost no money due to a recent collision with a drunk driver, and since we love the outdoors we figured we'd be able to have a little picnic here and I happen to have some cash on me so we could actually accomplish this. Like every single Refuge we've ever been to where there is an auto tour, you can pay cash, but not here! You had to scan these stupid QR codes which lead you to a website which doesn't provide any user friendliness, so unless you've already been through the hurdles to just find where to make a payment, you're screwed. I stood there with three other people trying to figure it out and none of us could figure it out and all of us left. Definitely will never be back.

Other than that it is pretty no-frills, fairly dirty, but lots of area to run and play, though on my 3rd visit, I have yet to see more than 1 other dog visiting the park besides my own. Getting to the park, you do need to drive down a dirt road about a mile to reach the park, which can put a little more wear on your vehicle than you may be used to if you do not live in the country. Over all, a worthy visit; if they would pave the road to get to the park and/or plant some grass to keep the dust down it could be a 5-star rating for sure.

I have a young dog who is learning her manners, and is often mistaken for a Pit Bull. Many of the small dog owners were nice and understanding that puppies must make mistakes to learn, but on more than one occasion, we'd had a run in. It got to the point we'd end up getting verbally assulted by the end of each visit. Our dog was a pup and still working out her rude behaviors when we would go. The small dog owners had no tolerance for this, and I had to stop a couple of old Women from taking swings at my dog when she'd go by. It was insane. A couple of times a womn as able to land some kicks to my dog's head. So we don't go back. It makes for a miserable situation for everyone and leads to dog fights becuase they pick up on the negativity. I heard that they opened another dog park on the other side of town. I hope they put in a security guard to moderate the aggressive, fight-picking owners.

I've passed this National Wildlife sign off the I-5 so many times and when I finally got to visit,…read morethe sheer size and uniqueness of this refuge far exceeded my expectations. Driving along the I-5 before, I've always wondered how deep the farms went. Well this refuge must've been hundreds of acres. I had no idea there was both a walking path and a driving tour. We opted for the self-driving tour. Starting out, it was kind of dry in May and I thought it was going to be those lame small areas to explore that takes like 20-30 mins. I didn't see anything but dry fields for a good while, but the deeper in we went, all of a sudden random ecosystems popped up left and right, lush greenery, and wildlife starting showing up. The gravel road took us on turns and it kept going on and on forever! The refuge was so huge it took me over an hour to get thru the whole thing. The driving tour takes you deeeeep into the refuge. It was nice you could stop at the pull-off areas to stretch your legs. There was even a viewing deck with built-in binoculars overlooking the creek and plains. We saw so many variety of birds, some rabbits and even spotted a deer. The whole experience was so amazing that I made a mental note to come back next spring and also take visiting family or friends.
