We were out and about looking for a place to fish, but the murky waters after the downpours made…read morethe rivers far too muddy. We happened upon this farm stand on our drive back into town and, since it had just opened for the day, pulled over to check it out. They list the produce available as well as the prices on the door (either so you don't need to go in if you don't see what you'd like, or for times when they're closed and you happen by), and walking in you're greeted with a few standing refrigerators. They host fresh Easter-egg colored eggs from Jodar farms, fresh cut flowers, beefy heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers, kale and zucchini, just to name a few from their expansive collection. They also offer empty cans that you can fill with water and go cut your own flowers or herbs from the garden on the property, and small boxes for pick-your-own cherry tomatoes. We grabbed a few veggies and paid at the honor system self-checkout iPad after waiting in a short line of two people, and then checked out the garden. We're not members, but will definitely be back to support and get some more of the deliciously sweet cucumbers and ridiculously fresh zucchini and kale!

I bought some delicious greens, and a small bouquet. You can pick your own bouquet or enjoy one that they've created. Wish I lived closer, I'd come more often.

We had a great morning visiting Morning Fresh Dairy and the Howling Cow Cafe. It all started with…read morean informative tour of the dairy that gave us insights into the dairy process from the focus on animal care, to quality and bottling control to diversity of products that are farm to table. Savanah and Noah did a great job with the tour. The best part of the tour was a toss up between the baby calves and tasting the yogurt and variety of milks.

What a wonderful tour I really enjoyed it…read more We started by waiting in the café for the doors to open to the tour. Once in we were seated and watched a video. We were then let outside whilst the tour leader explained about the property and its history etc. We then went to the school house to hear its history, and got to fill out a postcard requesting a future ice cream flavor. Next, we went to the Noosa building and we were told the history of Noosa as well. Which I found to be a great story. It was pretty cold and we were made to stand outside which I would've loved to have avoided. The next part of the tour, led us to the dairy go round, where all of it was explained to us. The cows seemed to enjoy this, and they explained that sometimes there were freeloaders that like to ride the dairy go round multiple times. We found that quite amusing. We then walked through the dairy part and saw the processing of the dairy. It was explained to us how it's bottled with an old machine that seems to work better than the new machines. Also, the ice cream process was explained to us here as well. After this we got to go see the baby cows which were adorable. They were quite timid, but it was cute when I reached out and they touched their noses to my hand. From there we had to go wash up in the bathroom, which had a long line. Finally, we were led back into the café area where we were given a happy surprise of a Noosa tasting, a beautiful holiday cookie, a morning fresh dairy mug, and a free cup of coffee of our choice. This was a very nice experience. Our tour guide seemed to be a little green and struggled with questions a bit, but she did OK. I would highly recommend people go on this tour. I think it's so great that they have home deliveries of local dairy products.. I wish we had that where I live. All four of us really enjoyed the tour!!

While I appreciate the idea of community-supported agriculture, I haven't joined a CSA for fear…read morethat it would be an overwhelming amount of produce for my household of one. However, when Grant Family Farms offered a Living Social deal I thought it would be a good opportunity to try it out. The deal consisted of one week's medium veggie share, a single fruit share, and a half-dozen eggs. I scheduled my pickup for the Thursday before Labor Day weekend, my thinking being that the long weekend would allow me a little more time to figure out what to do with the veggies if it did turn out to be overwhelming ... Here's what was included in the veggie share: 6 ears corn 2 zucchini 2 cucumbers 2 yellow squash 1 eggplant 3 peppers 1 bunch carrots 1 bunch beets 2 bunches spinach 1 bunch rainbow chard 1 head red leaf lettuce 1 bunch Italian parsley 1 bunch green onions 1 bag fingerling potatoes 1 bag tomatoes, mostly yellow slicers with 1 red slicer and 1 purple beefsteak For the most part, the produce was of high quality, though I did have one ear of corn that was slightly worm-eaten (hazard of organic, I suppose) and the tomatoes in the bottom of my bag (including the purple beefsteak) were smushed and a little moldy (so very sad). This was definitely a lot of vegetables for one person -- I ended-up doing a lot of chopping and blanching so I could freeze some of it -- but in reality if I were to subscribe I would choose the single share. The fruit share included a mix of peaches and apples. The peaches look to be of 2 varieties, since a few are significantly larger than the others. Haven't tasted them yet, since they could use a couple of days on the counter for ripening. The apples are a small, round variety that I don't recognize. The GFF website says that they are "Akame" apples, but when I google it all I get are a bunch of manga links ... whatever they are, they have a fairly assertive flavor that is not too sweet nor too tart, just balanced in-between, and a pleasingly firm texture (though for eating out of hand I prefer a crisper texture) The half-dozen eggs included 6 eggs, as advertised :-) They ranged in size, mostly equivalent to grocery store extra large eggs with a couple of large and I did get one that would probably rate as a jumbo egg. I'm still on the fence as to whether subscribing to a CSA is for me ... my initial response was "wow, look at all this great produce" but it quickly turned to "yikes, what am I going to do with all of this produce." I think I have things figured out so that I won't waste what I got, but I'm not sure that I could keep it up week after week.
