I have a well-established lilac bush that appeared to be dying. Before calling a service, I treated…read morethe bush topically with an anti-fungus spray and also a treatment mixed with water and applied at the base of the bush which moves internally through the branch system. It looked hopeless so I called Starwood, a tree service that claims professional services. From their website: "We have team members who are ISA-certified arborists with years of experience in the industry. You can depend on our skills and expertise to get the job done right." The first thing I'm told in person by the representative, with a straight face, is they charge a minimum of $950. This is without even inspecting the bush. I ask if he'd like to take time out and actually take a look, so he manages a short walk to the rear of the house and tells me the tree is dead. They can trim it off to the ground and rake the existing stones over the area. I could do that with a chain saw in 5 minutes. I told the guy thanks but no thanks. I've been in business for years so don't show up cocky, arrogant and obnoxious and expect to get work. So, I decide to wait, continue to treat the bush and it begins to recover. This Spring the bush has fully recovered full of leaves, and I expect it may bloom. Starwood claims to have certified arborists. I imagine they should go back to school.

With the crazy weather and high winds we've been having it was time for them to come down and after talking with Tim during the estimate process I knew TB Tree Service was who I wanted to do the job. Tim and his top notch crew were exceptional and the equipment they use is impressive as well . There wasn't a lot of room for them to work but their precision in cutting large sections of the trees and using a crane to swing them over the house to their huge chipper machine was something you had to see to believe. They did all this with safety being their #1 priority and without the slightest bit of damage to my yard or landscaping (and I'm exceptionally picky). To top it all off, cleanup was done so well that the only evidence that major tree work had been done is that the trees are gone - not a stray branch, wood chips of even a leaf remained. Incredible job and I'd highly recommend TB Tree Service to anyone that needs tree work done!

Eventually, the price increased to over $7,000. I've attached the original handwritten quote on the back of the business card to show the discrepancy. This experience reinforced the importance of getting everything clearly in writing. Since posting this review, the owner has contacted me several times, stating that this "should have been handled man-to-man." I found that framing unnecessary and unprofessional, especially given that the review reflects my actual experience. Due to recent threats of legal action over my original opinion, I have been documenting communications and recording calls. I'm comfortable standing by the factual details of what occurred. I had called different company first however the quote was astronomical and it would be weeks before they could get it done. Then my neighbor ended up giving a referral for Kevin the Tree Guy (great company name btw lol) I was amazed at the quote I received!
