Carne asada taco and al pastor taco. The al pastor taco is a must! Only $1/each!
    Kristina M.

The pictures on Yelp shows this place as a food stand. However, when I checked this place out today, there was a food truck! It was parked right on La Fayette and Beverly. I got the carne asada taco and al pastor taco. Each was $1 -- what a cheap dinner! There are also plentiful of condiments (three salsas, four toppings) to add to your meals. After you order and pay, they give you a ticket. Then you step back and wait for your number to be called. People are standing there and eating, while others are ordering it to-go. My tacos came with heaping piles of meat. It was the most meat ever given to me in a taco. Los Cinco Puntos in East Los comes close. The carne asada was ordinary. I got pickled veggies on the side (onions, jalapenos, some other stuff) and the pickled veggies was surprisingly pretty spicy! The star here was the al pastor taco. Juicy, tender, and flavorful. Perhaps the best al pastor taco I've ever had. I was a little skeptical but Tacos Ochoa won my heart. Cheap and good. I wouldn't go out of my way for it but if I was in the area, craving Mexican food or cheap eats, I would definitely consider coming!

This must be one of the last taco spots this side of LA that has tacos for a $1.25 that are also delicious. All the meats your heart can desire (within reason, you damn carnivore!). Burritos and quesadillas are $5! They're so good foo! Ugh, man. They cook up your burrito then leave it opened so you can head to the salsa bar (HAHA JK it's not a freaking salsa bar, this isn't Pollo Loco) to top up your burrito before it gets rolled up. Parking sucks, since lo and behold, it's Beverly Blvd. I stole some lady's parking, didn't think twice, I've got food to order! (Disclaimer: I didn't steal her parking spot, I waited patiently like a pansy) Also, cash only. No apple pay, android wallet, crypto currency up in here. The lady handling the cash was nice. -1 star for cleanliness. They cook meat in the street. I mean, if you're a germaphobe, I wouldn't recommend this place, or any dining establishment, so good luck to ya.

    Tacos: $1.25 each

Having only recently discovered what I feel are the best street tacos in Los Angeles in Tire Shop Taqueria, everything else has fallen just a bit short of those sky high expectations. Tacos Ochoa, located where Taco Man was before they seemingly closed shop, doesn't quite live up to the very high bar set by some of Los Angeles' best. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? Tacos Ochoa is your standard run of the mill taco truck, but I do appreciate that they have the pastor spit rotating outside for all to see. Taco Man did this same thing, and it's clear that Tacos Ochoa are doing their best to replicate that loyal following. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? At $1.25 each, these were some of the most affordable tacos I've encountered to date, and none of the portion size was sacrificed on account of that low cost. Condiments are DIY style, which I'm typically not a fan of but it comes down to personal preference - as I see it it's good value. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? These were good tacos, but I wouldn't go as far as to say they were great tacos. The tortillas were just okay, and the meats, while generously portioned, didn't pop with flavor and freshness in the way that I've come to expect. Kudos to the excellent salsas and fresh peripherals, but these weren't elite. Single Star Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? There are simply too many better taco options in LA to say that Tacos Ochoa will be a regular stop for me. No Star Granted.

I don't know how this place has gone under the Yelp radar but I'm happy to put them on the map. It's funny because this little corner of Beverly and Lafayette actually has two taco outfits posted up across the street from one another. In the gentrified world of coffee, that would be like having a Starbucks and Coffee Bean duking it out for your caffeinated cash. I've only ever seen a crowd at Tacos Ochoa (east of Lafayette), so since I like to hang with the popular crew, I head there when a taco craving hits or when it's late, I'm hungry or far from sober, and have cash on hand. The meat is juicy, flavorful and loaded up on masa-like tortillas that are thick enough to man handle their stuffing but not so thick that all you taste is tortilla. Tacos are $1 each and you can eat them plain or jazz them up with fixings from their salsa bar. Splurge and opt for a quesadilla for a real zinger of a snack. If you love Starbucks, then they're your Sbucks If you love Coffee Bean, then they're your CB. You feel me?

I live walking distance from this stand...the death of me!! There's this cart (same side as smart and final) and one across the street which always looks like a ghost town. We used to go to the one across the street to be nice and give the sad guy some business. We were stoked about the $1.25 tacos. But I couldn't suppress my curiosity--why is the other one always happenin? Now I know. Tacos are not only cheaper ($1 each) but they're bigger, meatier and fresher. Their quesadillas and burritos and al pastor are out of the world. They also make a taco quesadilla with al pastor..so delish. The guy speaks perfect English. I love him. Limitless salsa and veggies. There's one that's super spicy with raw jalapeños. My stomach was not forgiving the next day. Cleanliness is null. I accidentally dropped the salsa scooper in the deep salsa bucket. The guy fished it out with his hands, right after touching cash. And who knows what other germy hands touched the scooper. So don't think about and just eat.

The first time I went on a weekday in the middle of the day, so it was super empty and not the best because nothing was being made fresh- the meats and potatoes were kind of just sitting in bins so although the flavor was there, the cooled down temperatures really affected the taste. HOWEVER, I visited a few more times after that, these times all late at night, which really turned my experience around. I think at those times there were a lot more people and long lines, so everything was being made fresh and it being hot just made the food taste so so much better. I love how the toppings are all self-serve, and the hot potato is my favorite side. Carne asada, lengua, and al pastor are my go-tos. You'll want to add hellaaa green sauce to everything- I could literally drink that stuff straight.
