A client had me making a long, last minute drive to Palm Springs. That turned out to be a giant waste of time but the bright spot in the trip back home was what I discovered once I pulled off the freeway.
I was all geared up for In-N-Out. I don't get to eat there all that often and I was looking forward to a burger. But when I saw a bunch of taqueros furiously working to catch up with a generous line of customers I knew the plan had changed.
So now I'm in line and I'm thinkin' tacos but the guy a couple people ahead of me gets a cheesy torta. A pile of delicious lookin' meat covered with another heaping pile of cheese gently melting over everything. I see the grilling bread and I'm admiring it with the gal in front of me and now the plan has changed again.
It was a $10 torta, an amazing cheesy monster, big enough that I took a third of it back home. But it was oh so tasty and oh so wonderful and exactly what I didn't know that I desperately wanted. read more
