Lots of times when I visit a small town, I am disappointed in the food. But not here! VERY generous portions for the price. And this is the real deal Mexican restaurant. The taste was very authentic. Tried questioning the sales tax charged on our ticket which worked out to approx. 18.5% ($6.65 on a ticket total of $35.85) (Crump TN, where they are located, has a combined tax rate of 9.75%). Whoever checked me out was vague and very dismissive. Claimed he didn't know what other businesses charge, then blew me off completely to seat incoming customers. We have been going to Sombreros for several years, but as of today we will not be going back. I can (although I shouldn't) deal with being overcharged, but I'm Not going to put up with shabby, dismissive treatment. Anyone who goes there should check the tax charged on their ticket. It will probably be nearly double whatever it should be. Adios, Sombreros.

We both loved the sweet potatoes, baked to perfection, served with brown sugar on the side & plenty of butter in the table. My favorite was the coleslaw. I love how you shred it so finely & serve it with the sweet & tangy sauce served on the side. Now for the bad stuff. The menu describes the fried shrimp as "delicately fried" buttermilk-battered popcorn shrimp". Instead of it being light & delicate, the batter was thick. Every single bite was so crunchy, my husband could hear it. Popcorn shrimp should be a light batter with plump shrimp but these were, unfortunately, way over-fried or the wrong type of batter. And the shrimp were well hidden underneath all that batter. For $19, my shrimp was very disappointing. These are prices you pay for much better quality food. Hopefully, it was just an off day. If not, these shrimp need to be removed from the menu.
