(Fruit water) I sampled the Horchata, but ordered the pineapple. Very good with chunks of pineapple. For lunch, I ordered enchiladas mole (under specialties). The mole sauce was some of the darkest and richest I've ever had. Smokey undertones of the poblano peppers and a hint of coco. It came with chicken but next time it will be ground beef for me. The young waitresses will make fun of the customers while speaking Spanish. They joked about customers needing water because the food was too spicy. I was called out as racist by the owner and her uneducated son for bringing it to their attention. The fresh made tacos were extremely dry from being in microwave far too long. Meat on tacos had no flavor at all. Ever notice that when you go to a good Mexican restaurant, its usually full of Hispanics enjoying a nice authentic meal. No Hispanics customers should tell you something. If you like nasty food, rude people and being laughed at, this is b the place for you to go. read more

If you have a taste for perhaps the best Mexican food around, you must try Taco n Madre in Cairo. Situated at the end of a strip mall, you might give it a second thought, but walk inside and find yourself unable to decide what to try first. (Spoiler alert: whatever you try will be the right choice since they all seem to be excellent choices!) We started with queso and freshly made guacamole (loaded with chucks of avocado and perfectly balanced flavor) to top the warm, homemade tortilla chips. The variety of agua frescas-- many with fresh, local ingredients-- will have your thirst quenched in an instant (we loved the cucumber chia!) For mains, we had tacos al pastor, empanadas, specialty nachos, Speedy Gonzales burrito, and a cheese quesadilla with refried beans for the little one. The salsa bar provided great accents to all of our choices, and I believe all are made in house, just like the corn tortillas. We ended our time at Taco n Madre with the tres leches cake, which left all of us delightfully speechless. The music will have you moving in your seat to the sounds. The service is attentive, and the staff works as a well oiled machine. It was a pleasure all around. This place cooks your food to order, and it is delicious. My poblano burrito was the best that I have had, and my wife's tacos were excellent. Service was good and the place is neat and clean. We went for a day of exploration as a family, meaning we had a day road trip and ate places we've never been to before. Taco N Madre has been bookmarked for over 2 years, so off we went. Food was okay. I wouldn't drive 34 minutes for it, but the service was great and everyone seemed genuinely happy to have us there. Hard not to give an extra star for such a warm staff. The fajitas, which I ate, were like all the others these days. Gone are the days of sliced chicken breast and skirt steak. Most restaurants use this cheaper product of ends and pieces. It's a shame. Tortillas were fresh, which helped a lot. My son loved his chicken burrito that was covered in cheese, though is looked really thin. Fortunately he hasn't yet found his appetite in life. My wife and daughter both said it was between okay and good, but not worth all the Yelp hype. I'm glad we tried it, glad we got to explore a nearby town, and none the worse for the wear, but I don't think it's worth the drive from Tallahassee. There are places very comparable here. read more

My family has frequented this restaurant since they opened 10 years ago. Even when my exterminator told me not to eat there and a live roach fell off my husbands plate onto the table, we still went. Even when my whole family, and everyone we knew that ate at the restaurant one particular day got violently ill, we still went. Even when they lost their liquor license, we still went. But the rudeness of the owners that I have witnessed has escalated out of control. Customers don't receive a ticket or check. They add it up on a little calculator at the register and tell you the amount to pay. The amount they give sometimes seems questionable and appears to vary, there's never anything on paper or a receipt. When paying, I asked the price of an entree, since my bill was almost twice what I expected it to be. Rigo berated me and asked me what I wanted to pay for my food. He then followed me into the dining room, continuing to berate me for questioning the bill. I have never in my life seen a business owner treat customers so rudely. If you live in Tallahassee and want a Mexican meal, consider driving to Cairo. I haven't had anything this good in Tallahassee, be sure to bring a designated driver along because their margaritas are handmade from fresh ingredients - they don't use pre-mixed from a bottle. The margaritas are served in terra cotta tumblers and generous portioned. I had ceviche topped with a generous portion of avocado, it was lovely. Going out to eat is usually a disappointment b/c of the ingredients - but the quality of the food matches if not exceeds the quality of the ingredients we use at home. If I'm going out to eat, I want to eat quality food. We didn't experience a long wait, but if there is one, it's worth it. Plan ahead and get there before the last minute diners - you're waiting for an experience, not empty calories to fill your gut. read more

This is possible the best Mexican food the south has to offer! The restaurant was spotless, a major plus when you come to a little hole in the wall restaurant like this, you expect some things to be lax. But I was very impressed how organized and scrubbed every was, from the kitchen where you can watch the food being prepared through the divider glass, to the bathrooms that were cleaner than my own. The wait staff was extremely attentive. The tables were filling up by the time we left and had more orders than the two waiters could juggle, but they never failed to refill our drinks and chips and bus plates, all before we could ask or realize we needed it. The food was divine! I can't say that enough. Everything was made to order, including the guacamole we ordered with the chips. Everything was fresh, from the salsa at the salsa bar where we helped ourselves to 9 different flavors (from plain pureed avocado with sour cream, to a fire roast tomato with mild heat, to a spicy blooming fire breather that lingered. Warning: if the label reads HOT XX, believe it!) Our table ordered an array of dishes, and each was superb. My fried talapia was massive. I couldn't find enough stomach room to finish it. The tacos were authentic and loaded with flavor, we ordered one of each and the home made chorizo was the best. The soup was chocked full of meat and enough for two people, and the torta was everything you wanted it to be: hot, gooey, and massive. South Georgia has found a mecca of Mexican food! read more

I had chorizo tacos Mexican style (just meant corn tortilla instead of flour). Honestly one of the most delicious things I have put in my mouth. Spicy without being painful, and the corn tortilla tasted super authentic and delicious. Very very delicious dinner. read more

This was my 5th time visiting this restaurant and it seems like each time the wait gets longer and longer. Not only do you wait and wait and wait, but they bring out each person's order at different times at your table. And different times spanning five to seven minutes for each plate to come out separately. Based on the 5-star reviews, we made the trip to Cairo and were not so disappointed in the food as the management. Margaritas hand-made and from fresh ingredients is a tall order. We believed the reviews but were disappointed with the reality. We ordered top-shelf Patron margaritas and were told that was what we got. They were far too sweet for fresh juice and had an almost diet-drink aftertaste. When we told the wait staff they were not to our liking, he said they were all from the same pitcher, which negates the notion of handmade and top shelf. He refused to take the drinks off of the tab, and seemed unresponsive and unmindful of our satisfaction. If you've never had a really great Patron margarita (Azu in Tallahassee is our favorite so far) those from Taco n Madre may suit you just fine. But we wish we hadn't made the trip for mediocre (at best) food and a truly disappointing and misrepresented margarita. read more
