The best restaurant in Cairo! The food and drinks are excellent, the staff is friendly, and it's always clean and cheerful.

HIGHLY recommend! Delicious, fresh food, none of the Americanized Mexican food you are used to. Owner said the menu is based off food he grew up with his mother cooking for him. Incredibly kind staff who stayed open later to cook us lunch after unknowingly walking in right before closing. Authentic experience you won't get anywhere else! I will be returning from out of town just to eat here! They also have a salsa bar so you can experiment with the different kinds!

If you have a taste for perhaps the best Mexican food around, you must try Taco n Madre in Cairo. Situated at the end of a strip mall, you might give it a second thought, but walk inside and find yourself unable to decide what to try first. (Spoiler alert: whatever you try will be the right choice since they all seem to be excellent choices!) We started with queso and freshly made guacamole (loaded with chucks of avocado and perfectly balanced flavor) to top the warm, homemade tortilla chips. The variety of agua frescas-- many with fresh, local ingredients-- will have your thirst quenched in an instant (we loved the cucumber chia!) For mains, we had tacos al pastor, empanadas, specialty nachos, Speedy Gonzales burrito, and a cheese quesadilla with refried beans for the little one. The salsa bar provided great accents to all of our choices, and I believe all are made in house, just like the corn tortillas. We ended our time at Taco n Madre with the tres leches cake, which left all of us delightfully speechless. The music will have you moving in your seat to the sounds. The service is attentive, and the staff works as a well oiled machine. It was a pleasure all around. You will gladly embrace the joy so evident from owner to waitstaff as you savor every delicious bite at Taco n Madre. A must try!

We went for a day of exploration as a family, meaning we had a day road trip and ate places we've never been to before. Taco N Madre has been bookmarked for over 2 years, so off we went. Food was okay. I wouldn't drive 34 minutes for it, but the service was great and everyone seemed genuinely happy to have us there. Hard not to give an extra star for such a warm staff. The fajitas, which I ate, were like all the others these days. Gone are the days of sliced chicken breast and skirt steak. Most restaurants use this cheaper product of ends and pieces. It's a shame. Tortillas were fresh, which helped a lot. My son loved his chicken burrito that was covered in cheese, though is looked really thin. Fortunately he hasn't yet found his appetite in life. My wife and daughter both said it was between okay and good, but not worth all the Yelp hype. I'm glad we tried it, glad we got to explore a nearby town, and none the worse for the wear, but I don't think it's worth the drive from Tallahassee. There are places very comparable here.

No mixers here! Handmade, FRESH margaritas!

If you live in Tallahassee and want a Mexican meal, consider driving to Cairo. I haven't had anything this good in Tallahassee, be sure to bring a designated driver along because their margaritas are handmade from fresh ingredients - they don't use pre-mixed from a bottle. The margaritas are served in terra cotta tumblers and generous portioned. I had ceviche topped with a generous portion of avocado, it was lovely. Going out to eat is usually a disappointment b/c of the ingredients - but the quality of the food matches if not exceeds the quality of the ingredients we use at home. If I'm going out to eat, I want to eat quality food. We didn't experience a long wait, but if there is one, it's worth it. Plan ahead and get there before the last minute diners - you're waiting for an experience, not empty calories to fill your gut.

Fried Talapia, came with rice, beans, and tortillas.

This place has slow service and is cramped. No alcohol served, kinda takes away what a Mexican restaurant should be.

My family loves this place! We eat there every Friday night. Affordable food that is very authentic. Go early to avoid waiting for a table.

This place was ok. Sort of like an overpriced glorified taco bell, so far as flavor went. I had the…read more"California" burrito, which consisted of meat of my choice (chicken or beef) with my choice of rice, beans, lettuce, pico de gallo, tomatoes, etc. My wife got the "San Francisco" fajita bowl, which... well, there was nothing "fajita" about it, but we'll let it slide I guess. There was a bed of lettuce, then the meat went on (directly from the vat, no grilling sizzling fajita platter with freshly grilled bell peppers and onions, etc), then was topped with a few other items as per my wife's choice. The meats come from two big bins. One is the beef, which is nothing more than a huge tub of ground beef that has been browned and "seasoned" with generic "taco" seasonings you might expect to get from a packet at the store (This is where I got the idea that it was just an overpriced Taco Bell - the meat was identical). To my dismay, I noticed this fact only after I ordered my burrito with beef, but it was too late so I didn't fuss about it and change my mind. The chicken was in a large vat of liquid, with chicken chunks marinading in it. The chicken, at least, was pretty juicy and had a decent flavor. The beef, on the other hand, ended up all over my plate as I tried to dig it out of my burrito. It was just flat out way too much ground beef, and the burrito tasted like a big rolled up tortilla full of ground beef. All in all, the burrito was a total let down. The "fajita" bowl my wife had was sort of bland as well, but we were able to make it a little better after I mixed a few of the salsas together and she poured it over each bite. Their normal salsa was bland, but add some of their "super hot" ...sauce paste stuff (no chunks typical of salsa, just a pureed red mixture) and it was actually quite a delicious result. As a little note at the end here, the salsa verde tasted miraculously like sour cream. Not sure how that happened, it wasn't even creamy looking. The restaurant itself reminds me of a typical small, locally owned Mexican restaurant. It has the typical environment one can expect at such places. It was clean, I have no complaints there, and the woman taking (and making) my order was polite and professional. Total price for the two meals and a drink was just over $16. Not too bad, but I have been to many other Mexican restaurants with lower prices and much, much better food. We will probably not be eating here again. Next time, we are going to try the other Mexican place here in Cairo, El Tarasco's, to see if it is any different.
