Lots of good flavors here. Had the al pastor (marinated pork) and barbacoa (fatty shredded beef) tacos; delicious! Then there's the value. A flat $2 for a stuffed 6in. taco is one heck of a deal. The place can be a little intimidating. The building definitely needs a face lift and the inside only seats about 6-7 people. The drive thru speaker is a bit distorted, but manageable. Don't be fooled though, because the staff is friendly, they're English is good and they take card payments. Can't say enough good things about this place. So let me just say this. I take a 15min detour and drive past 7 other mexican restaurants (including 2 Taco Bells, Alejandros, El Fogon and a Chipotles) to get 4 tacos twice a week. I had a torta from here not too long ago a friend bought and wanted another one just now. Unfortunately when we get to the drive through speaker, they tell us that they're closed. At 10pm. With their sign still on and the hours of operation listed as closing at 11pm and Yelp says 12am. The first time this happened I could understand because it was about 10:50pm. But at least that time was closer to their "closing" time. It's upsetting because the food is good but after twice of being told "we're closed" when they're most definitely open, I won't be coming back. read more

Not long after my previous review, drive thru staff changed and it's been delightful ever since. This has been a mainstay for late dining. The chiles rellenos are also good, though the sauce is a little different than many places and features celery for more flavor and texture. read more

I like the food. I'm from Texas and pretty sure I like this place 100 times more then el fogón. The lady that was working seems like she's one of the owners and she's so kind and sweet. She made sure I had plenty of salsa verde and omgosh the tacos were very good and affordable!!! I'm taking my parents there next time. The biggest knock against this place is the location. The building is small, the parking lot is not kept well and it is in a sketchy area of town. One person loitered around my vehicle outside for most of my meal - I'm a guy and I was uncomfortable with it. If you can get past all that, you'll find a competent, quick, Mexican meal inside. The best part about this place is the service. The register was very friendly and more than happy to answer any questions that I had. I got the carne asada burrito and the steak was cooked well, the portion was good, and it was hot and tasty - a very good burrito. Unfortunately, that didn't carry over to the sides. The rice and beans were totally uninspired, and both (especially the beans) were terribly bland. I feel like this place has more to offer, but there are a number of great fast Mexican locations in this area and around Wichita. With those options out there, it is hard to justify coming back. I gave it four stars instead of five because it is kinda nasty inside and out. But they have GREAT tacos and the best barbacoa in town! Yeah man!! Dirty side o' town, Ventura Boulevard-Lower-East-Side kinda stuff, here in the ICT. You've gotta give it a try--live a little! UPDATE: Decided to come back to enhance my review here, and I have now upgraded Taco Mexican to five stars regardless of the "ambience." DO get the barbacoa in absolutely anything...but the other thing they do that has me dreaming of the place almost daily is their BREAKFAST BURRITOS. I spent a fair amount of time in Texas a few years back and I never got a breakfast burrito better there than at Taco Mexican. We went through the drive thru last night. A bit late but was in the area. Best pozole I've had. I mean really it was so good. They said it was an individual serving but 3 of us all had some. Very large portions. My son got the dinner with a shredded chicken burrito and a cheese enchilada. Came with beans and rice. And we also got a chimichanga dinner. After the second time of calling an order into this restaurant they didn't get the order started until we arrived which was 20 minutes later. I gave them another chance thinking maybe they were just busy last time. Also the food was average. Before leaving we asked for hot sauce and she said we had to pour our own sauce into containers and also said that the premade sauces are only for drive through customers. The worker who took my order for drive-thru could not understand me well, so they asked again when I drove up to the window. It was my first time here, and I was confused as to if there was a window or not so I really just stopped randomly, luckily I was near the window as I saw it open, although I was a bit far from it reaching wise. I ordered 4 tacos and it was ready quickly. I got 2 al pastor, 1 asada and 1 barbacoa. I ordered 2 al pastor tacos because I've had delicious al pastor tacos before from numerous places, but the al pastor here was different from the ones that I've had. It was good with nice flavor, but I think the texture is what bothered me. It seemed a little over cooked. The asada was good but not great. The barbacoa was my favorite -- it was soft and cooked perfectly, it was delicious. I wish I had ordered more barbacoa tacos than al pastor or asada. read more
