They will give you a buzzer and your drinks to take to your table. He got his chorizo tacos x2, chips and queso and horchata lol always. His tacos looked delicious, it had the onions and cilantro (which I had hoped for mine) and the corn tortillas. The queso was an incredibly small portion--like a 6oz sauce cup! Not worth it in my opinion. He loved his horchata as always. I ordered the grilled fish tacos. I was a little disappointed when they came out, they were on grilled flour tortillas, very very small portion of grilled fish, lettuce?!?!, tomatoes and a creamy green sauce. I wouldn't have it again...if I return with him I'll try the chorizo tacos.

I am not the person that typically complains to staff but this time, I had to say something. The worker was kind and apologized for it. She even offered if I wanted to swap it out for something else or issue me a refund for it. I also had the suadero sopes and the meat itself was good but the masa of the sopes didn't taste right. They tasted stale and not very fresh.

La Loteria has been open about a year according to the employee who took my order. When you approach the restaurant, be sure to drive slowly because it's easy to overlook. The strip mall where it's situated is a bit difficult to access and exit as well. Inside, the dining area is bright with vibrant, cheerful colors and artwork. There are a few small booths for 2 person groups and a couple of larger tables for groups more than 2. The menu is located near the ordering window and birria appeared to be a showcase item across several different preparations. Now, to dive into my meal. First, I could immediately tell the quesadilla was filled to the brim with delicious barbacoa, cheese, cilantro, and radish as a garnish. I was also given a mild green sauce, sour cream, and a fiery and smoky red sauce. To add a bit more protein to the mix, I ordered a side of refried beans. The portion was fantastic for the price and I appreciated that they came plain without cheese added in. My reason for rating my experience as a 4 instead of a 5 is that the quesadilla was a bit too messy for my taste. The barbacoa was so rich and fatty that it was difficult to hold the quesadilla and the tortilla became soggy. I ultimately ended up scooping the filling out and eating it with my sauces and toppings on its own. Overall though, this seems Iike a solid place for Mexican food on the East side. I'll be trying other items on their menu.

Love the food here!! The burritos? Yum!! I've been here several times now, and I'm definitely stuck…read moreon these great flavors. A friend and I usually split a pork burrito and meat bowl. I'll start with the establishment/location. This joint is in the heart of the Whitehall/Columbus area. Yes, many years ago, Hamilton Road was chuck full of businesses, restaurants and shopping stripes. However, over the last 20 years, things have changed: businesses closing; higher crime; demographics. Since I'm all for the hidden gems, when a friend told me about this place, I was excited! First time I walked into this grocery store, I got confused. I didn't see any tables - was I in the wrong place? I had to ring up my friend and have him direct me toward the back left corner of the shop. The eatery part is not big. A few tables. Three or so booths. And a small stand with the register. That's it, nothing to gawk at. The service had always been good. Polite and fast. Both times my friend and I have gotten a pork burrito and #48 (starts with an M, but I forget what it's called!). The burrito has consistently been fantastic. Moist juicy pork. Great mix of toppings. You can taste the different components, too. That's a big deal-breaker for me: so many Mexican places serve burritos that have a homogenous taste. Nothing standing out. Not the case here! Here goes my best attempt to describe #48: it consists of thin strips of steak and chicken and freshly cooked small shrimp. Red and green peppers are mixed in with the protein. Mozzarella cheese is sprinkled on top. The cool part? These ingredients are tossed in a black bowl and pushed into the oven. Everything cooks in the bowl. The outcome is all flavor, every bite! The meat is lightly seasoned - the perfect amount. Oh yeah, almost forgot! When you're seated, a giant basket of chips and three types of salsa are brought out: the normal red salsa; a green Tomatillo dip; and orange tinted hot salsa to top it off. Authentic Mexican, folks :D

Taco Truck Extravaganza 2010 continues with our adventure to Whitehall this afternoon. Hoping that…read morethe taco trucks would find us, instead of going by the Alive or Yelp guides (just testing the chaos theory, folks - the Alive article and the Yelp lists are wonderful), we happened upon Taqueria La Morena right about the time we were going to pass out from hunger (no, really - I kept forgetting to "go" at green lights...). Turns out, this taco truck has only been open a couple weeks - and it's a newbie definitely worth checking out. So, we ordered something similar to what we got at La Super Torta II (the last taco truck on this summer of taco wonderment): here, we got one each carne asade taco, cabra (goat) torta, and a pineapple drink, the name of which sadly escapes me. The tacos were good (I liked the chorizo ones at La Super Torta better), but the torta here was outstanding - five stars. The bread was slightly less condensed than at the last taco truck, making it easier to eat, and the cabra meat was so tender and delicious... The torta also had shredded raddish and cilantro, and the owner (I assume) was kind enough to provide us with three types of hot sauce, all of which were too hot for me, but which the boy thoroughly enjoyed (esp. the habanero). There were also plentiful freshly cut limes for all of our food. The man who I'm guessing is the owner was really nice - I will have to ask the boy what his name was, as they were conversing in Spanish and I know possibly the least Spanish of any American ever (fail, considering that I'm around Mexican guys so much). Anyway, the owner's family was hanging out and the boy had a conversation with him and another man about where to find charcoal roasted goat in Cbus (apparently nowhere - but if you know a place, PLEASE let me know!). This was a really great random find in Whitehall. Like I said, La Morena is new - the food is excellent and the service is friendly and nice - so if you're in the neighborhood, show them some love. Support your local businesses - and your local taco trucks! Taco trucks forever!!

Better than Taco Bell…read more That pretty much sums up my review, and says a whole lot in just a few words. I'm not sure how this has a three-star average. I'm being generous with two. It felt weird to come a chain when there are three or four local, authentic Latin American restaurants within easy walking distance. But I'd heard great things about Del Taco, and never been, and it was kind of on my side of town. So, I stopped in, hungry and excited to try a few of the things I'd heard were great. Clean inside and out, smallish like a Taco Bell or other fast food place. Fairly basic menu. Not as many interesting things as I remembered hearing about. But: carne asada burrito! Actually, Cali bacon burrito, with steak or chicken. I got the steak, in a meal. $14 for a decent amount of food. Comes with fries, which doesn't make sense at a place like this. Irrelevant and extraneous. They're fine, crinkle cut which isn't my favorite, but crispy and hot. Wish they had other side choices. The ketchup packets say "del ketchup," which is very mildly amusing. Speaking of mild, I tried their medium and hot sauces. Medium is "Del Scorcho," but it most certainly is not scorching. A whisper of heat, not much flavor otherwise. Meh. Hot is "Del Inferno," and is slightly hotter, but still not really spicy, and again with no other defining flavor. I tried the burrito without any sauce at first to see what it had on its own. Not much, turns out. Okay tortilla, tough steak, and: more fries? Didn't notice that on the menu, and they were soft and starchy and filled up half the burrito. I pulled them out. Oh, and the whole thing was barely lukewarm, just enough to slightly melt the cheese inside. And: not much flavor, in the meat or sauce or anything. I added lots of sauce, which didn't add much flavor. I ate most of what was left after the fries departed, but wow. Really unimpressive. The ice machine was broken; they did gladly and quickly get me some from behind the counter. Service was friendly and fast the whole time, the one high point. Another customer made a point to tell the manager that her staff had helped him out on a previous visit, and that they were good people. Takes a few more minutes than Taco Bell since they are doing a little more from scratch. It's a little more expensive than the Bell, but better. Relatively speaking. Another place that is overhyped by people who apparently grew up with it and have fond memories. I won't be back.
