I loved this little taco spot! When I made it into Cleveland and dropped my bags at my hotel, I was…read moreexcited to see that there was a Mexican restaurant just a short walk away. For whatever reason, tacos sounded like the perfect comfort meal after braving the airport. I stepped into Barrio on a weekday afternoon and if I didn't know any better, I would have thought they were closed based on the quiet street and customers inside. There were 6-7 other guests in the restaurant but beyond the music, it was very chill in there. I took a seat at the bar and I was promptly greeted by a nice guy behind the counter. He explained the taco ordering process to me, showing me the order form and even sharing his personal favorites. I love the ordering form! It's cool to see all of the options in one spot, the choices were extensive. I decided to go with 1 specialty taco, the La Tierra, 1 chicken taco and 1 steak taco. I also got a side order of guacamole and pico de gallo. I'm so bummed that I don't remember the second sweet guy who assisted me, I believe it started with a D. He was the sweetest! About 15 minutes after I ordered, he came back with his hands full of bags. We both looked at each other and laughed because, why did y'all give me all of these bags?! LOL. Turns out they bagged each item separately (paper bag and a plastic bag). I felt so greedy omg. I had to quickly rebag it all before I walked out, lol. My tacos were delicious! Albeit, a little soggy due to the sauces I requested to have on them. The guacamole and pico were also delicious but a bittttt too salty and limey. I usually like my guac and pico with a little extra kick, but I could have done with one less dash of salt and one less squeeze of lime, lol. Either way - it was a really great meal and experience overall.

1/2 - Good tacos, service needs work…read more While on a business trip with two coworkers, we stopped in at Agave & Rye for a quick lunch. It wasn't our first choice, but it ended up being a decent find--especially if you're in the mood for creative tacos. We arrived well after the lunch rush and there were only a handful of patrons in the restaurant, so it was fairly quiet. We ordered chips and salsa to start, but unfortunately they never made it to the table. When our food arrived and I asked about them, our waitress admitted she had forgotten to write it down. The food also seemed to take a bit longer than expected considering the restaurant wasn't busy. Because of that, the service was a little underwhelming. That said, the tacos themselves were the highlight of the visit. I ordered three of the smaller tacos, but they packed a lot of flavor. My picks were The Yoda, The Love Shack, and The Filthy Fajita--all creative and really well done. Small in size, but definitely big on flavor. Overall, the food was solid, but the service could use some improvement. If I lived in the area, I could definitely see this being a good happy hour spot to grab tacos and drinks with friends.

Very sadly, I just saw that the two other locations are closing immediately, just 1 day after our Valentine's Day dinner at the Larchmere location - now officially, the only one left standing. The Lakewood Barroco was in my top 5 favorite restaurants in all of Cleveland and I am super bummed. I hope this last location will stay open for a very long time. As for the Barroco food, it was superb. We went all out and tried a few things on the menu. We aren't big drinkers but I sipped on a strawberry mojito with lots of real strawberries throughout ($14) and my bf enjoyed the "Iguana," a pretty little rum cocktail ($12). We shared the shrimp device and tostones appetizer ($18). The tostones reminded me of a structurally sound latke, or potato pancake! Our shrimp ceviche was doused in lemon juice and mixed with lots of healthy vegetables. This was large enough to be an entree for a healthy eater! However, we still had lots of room in our tummies and we each got our own main dish. I stuck to the arepa and yucca fries combo I love so much, although I switched it up and ordered a different arepa than my usual. I liked my "Ropa Vieja," or braised beef arepa ($22), fine but I prefer my usual pulled pork arepa much much more. The braised beef arepa was like a sloppy Joe in an arepa. Made for pretty good leftovers though! My beloved was feeling adventurous and treated himself to a nice and fatty cut of the Carne Asada and Calentado entree ($38). After tax and tip, our bill was a hefty $130 for the two of us. I'd say that the food, the service, and the ambiance made it worth it though and I hope it continues to stay open so we can come back!!
