We were brought chips and salsa at the beginning along with our drinks. It's a casual place with a sit down eating on one side and something else on the sushi side. We have leftover for dinner. The California roll was huge

ABSOLUTE SLOP... I gave this restaurant three tries. The…read morefirst two attempts were mediocre at best, but I just got done eating the absolutely ***WORST*** Mexican "cuisine" meal of my life tonight, and trust me, I've eaten more Mexican food out than any other cuisine, stretching the entire United States, and a few in Mexico itself. I ordered al a carte as I typically do (for the variety and to see if they can do multiple dishes well). I received three main course items sloppily placed into a single container drowning in a chili powder and salt heavy sauce such that I could not taste the tortilla or protein...it all tasted like a chili powder salt lick (btw, I am NOT sensitive AT ALL to sodium...I have been home cooking for 3 decades and fully appreciate a well-seasoned dish). This was the worse slop I've ever eaten at a Mexican restaurant, and to boot, the meal cost $20 for three al a carte items and a small side of rice. At the counter, I asked for a small side of their spiciest salsa (which I always do) and they up-charged me $2 for a literally a single two ounce serving of what appeared to be their house salsa with a ton of guess what....a handful of chili powder in it. Their prices are absolute highway robbery for the quality of food they are serving, and it's quite obvious that since they are the only Mexican restaurant in this entire county, they are gouging the local Caucasian population that doesn't know any better. At this quality, their prices should be half of what they are, and if that were the case, you still wouldn't find me eating there. You'll get no more chances from me, you low-quality scam artists. Bye and good riddance.

Most important, the food was REALLY good. I didn't really understand the menu at first, and the man…read morebehind the counter wasn't very friendly. He told me their chips and salsa aren't like what you get in most Mexican restaurants, and that they make their salsa in house. I was confused, because I was like, What do you mean your chips and salsa aren't like chips and salsa? But I get it now, and they really aren't. The chips are totopos, and the salsa is a very flavorful, thin pureed sauce that has been cooked or roasted-- not sure exactly how they make it, but there is cooking and technique involved for sure. They were SO GOOD. So delicious-- I have an Oaxaca restaurant nearish me, and now I can't wait to try it. I ordered the ceviche, which came with the totopos. I asked for more salsa verde and glad I did. They do charge for extra salsa (if your order comes with it, they give you a little of each the red and green). Glad I did because it was SO GOOD. I licked the container for real. If I ever come back to Covington it would be to come here and have the exact same thing. I took a star off because I didn't like the service.

Orders are always ready when they say. The only reason I'm not giving a 5-star rating is because I recently veered off from street tacos (of which I'm a connoisseur, if I do say so myself) to try other menu items and I wasn't all that impressed. I'd recommend sticking to the street tacos, which are amazing every time. Great job, Jose (or whatever your name actually is :).

We placed orders for 3 diff meals. 1 steak fajita quesadilla, beef quesadilla and a Paps sada with steak, and a $10 large order of cheese dip. The cheese dip was MIA! The steak was HORRIBLE! No flavor and very tough. The beef quesadilla was a flower tortilla with beef and that's it. Nothing else inside. They messed up the side orders as they placed them in all the wrong containers for each meal. They included a half a bag of chips (enough for 3 people) but the (approximately) 4oz container of salsa was missing about 3 of its ounces. The meals were all barely luke warm. All in all, the food was not good...esp considering it's a new restaurant! Taco Bell would have been better! ‍

The front of the store is jammed with fresh produce in a small fridge and a wall of assorted baked Mexican pastries. The rest of the storefront was squeezed full of different hot sauces and other snacks and drinks. The back of the place was where the food magic happens. The menu is stupid simple (and I mean this in a good way) I opted for the torta cubana that I've heard so much about and IT WAS THE BEST DECISION. I've never had bread like it---super pillowy and soft. The sandwich was stuffed and overflowing with Al pastor and asada and a questionable hotdog/ham love child. The sandwich was huge and I definitely left with a happy full belly. My friends ordered tacos and apparently there was nothing super special about those...it's probably still worth coming back for $1 taco Tuesday! All in all, give this place a shot if you're into those hole-in-the-wall experiences. You won't he disappointed!

Consider calling ahead to order as they are sometimes so busy it takes a little time to get your food. There's a little sitting area with shade where you can sit and eat or you can get it to go like we had to. Their chicken tacos are perf and even better with pico but don't need salsa verde to be awesome. I also really liked their tacos del pastor. They sell the smaller tacos here so I can usually eat around 3-4. The torta I got was delicious but it was crazy messy and I actually liked it better without the top bit of bread. The quesadilla reminds me of the ones I used to get at El Rancho Grande, my favorite homestyle Mexican restaurant before it closed down. Good memories. Loved: - Quesadilla del Pastor - Quesadilla de Pollo - Taco al Pastor - Taco de Pollo - Torta al Pastor Liked: - Horchata - Salsa Rojo (stings but tasty) - Taco de Carnitas Ok: - Salsa Verde de Aguacate - Sope de frijol y chorizo
