This corner restaurant has bad management, because twice they have tried to open a taco stand and don't bother to hire a chef that can cook. The restaurant itself is bright, colorful, clean, and really well designed. I loved the clever bench seating, the bar was well stocked, and there's outdoor seating plus an upstairs area that looked really cool. They also have a walk-up taco window outside, which is a fun idea. We sat in the bar area, and the service was amazing. Everyone was friendly and attentive. The food, though, was really underwhelming. Almost everything we tried lacked seasoning and flavor. I ordered the chicken enchiladas, which had very little chicken and were pretty bland. I did like the very thinly sliced jalapeños on top. The rice was nice and fluffy but didn't have much flavor, and they serve black beans, which just aren't my preference with Mexican food. The house-made salsa was surprisingly sweet, and I was disappointed that the chips didn't seem house-made. If I'm going out for Mexican food, fresh chips are one of those little things I really look forward to. My husband ordered tacos at $6 each, which felt pretty steep considering we're used to excellent tacos in the $2-$3 range. His carne asada was cooked closer to medium rare, which wasn't what we expected at all from carne asada. The queso was another disappointment. It tasted very similar to Rico's cheese sauce you can buy at the grocery store. Overall, great service, great decor, very clean and a fun atmosphere, but the food just didn't match the setting or the reviews for us. At these prices, I expected a lot more flavor. Unfortunately, we left pretty disappointed.

Our daughter and I returned to the car for a phone battery and saw Proper Taco and immediately went inside. Proper taco looks to be able to support, seemingly, any dietary concern... if it isn't already noted on their menu, I recommend just asking about your needs. There are almost too many tasty items on the menu; after a few minutes, she ordered tacos and I ordered Merv nachos for my wonderful wife and me. While we waited we laughed at the many magnets and other items with humorous quotes on them. We enjoyed this great food back in our seats, at the concert. I can speak to the fact that the Merv tacos are quite nice - great chips with so many flavors on top. Fantastic staff. Fantastic food, leading to my Plus Plus (++) award! Thank you, Proper Taco! We look to return on our next visit.

SERVICE: Service was good, server was very nice with any questions we had. *** What we didn't appreciate was when it was time to pay the bill, the server brings out the handheld payment tool (like a lot of restaurants use now), server holds the tool so my husband can see and stares at the tool, watching my husband choose what tip amount etc. It automatically defaults to a 20% tip and then increases from there for tip choices!! We felt very pressured and awkward with this. We like to take our time and figure out how much we want to leave based on service not feel "pushed" into choosing one of the pre chosen percentage amounts (especially if they default to a minimum of 20%)!!! The server needs to leave the tool at the table walk away or stand farther back so the customer can privately pay. There was a little bit of burnt flavor to them. Not sure if it was the fish, or the tortilla. Another thing is they need some kind of sauce or freshness. They were also a bit dry. It was really good and I can see why people are talking about this place. The pork was well cooked and flavorful. The sope itself was just like you would expect.
