The interior was warm and inviting, and made for a fun environment to dine in. We ordered the birria ramen and the Texas ACP. Let's just say--I walked in skeptical and walked out a little turned on by chorizo. Yep. It was…read morethat good. We tried the taquitos, chicken tacos, and chorizo tacos. The taquitos were solid, but the real MVPs were the tacos. I'm a full-blown taco elitist (like, I judge you if you say "hard shell"), and even I was pleased. The chorizo? Chef's kiss. You could taste the cinnamon, and it had that gorgeous little char that lets you know someone back there actually cares. The chicken was juicy and cooked perfectly--not that dry, sad poultry you regret ordering. Nope, this was done right. Bonus points for the salsa bar--they weren't messing around. A bunch of choices, levels of heat, and that avocado salsa? A personal love story. I may or may not have licked the little plastic cup like a raccoon in heat. It was busy for Thursday night, but the service was quick. Best Mexican food I've had in Moore County hands down. Go here. Now.

Taqueria El Refugio was our choice today, specifically so we could buy 3 Barbacoa Tortas. We love…read morethe grilled Serrano peppers and grilled spring onions that come on the side of the torta. I stopped by the food truck on a Friday (today), and it was 3:00 pm. The problem was that the tortas were totally wet all the way through. They also had no avocado and the meat was super tough and stringy. There was way too much mayo and little else. Also, no grilled Serrano pepper or grilled spring onion. This $50 meal was absolutely not worth it. I think that there was a different crew today than we have had before, though I'm not absolutely sure. They finally have lost my business, I will not return to this truck. It was not just this one time either. Things have been going downhill over the last few months, though I always made an excuse for them. Today, they finally did their worst. Nope, I will not be giving them any more of my money. There are many other good tortas to be had in our town.

Their salsa is a bit on the spicier side but is made with fresh ingredients and tastes good! You can tell that it's homemade, which is an expectation for any Mexican restaurant. I got the chicken ACP. It is great but just like the salsa, something in it (likely the cheese) has a kick! All of the components (rice, chicken, and cheese) have good flavor. If you're not a big taco fan (like me), then try the ACP! You won't regret it. My dad's birria tacos were great as well. Our server was a great guy, and frequently came around to check on us. The vibe is more of a modern Mexican establishment.
