The time before this one I had asked for a mild quesadilla, as the last times I almost died it was so hot. I still got a spicy as hell one ( made the mistake not to ask to leave out also the brutal spicey barbecue sauce. ) I had not complain until then and simply asked them to do another without that sauce. This time I came ready to make sure I got a non spicy meal. I asked for a pulled pork Mexican burger and they told me it had 2 very hot sauces so I asked them to leave them out. And clearly specified ro leave all jalapeño, chilly or anything spicey out. They assured they would leave the 2 sauces out and that it didn't have chili or jalapeño. However when I tried to eat it I chocked, convulsively coughed and my face turned into a red brick chimney. The waiter and everybody around could see it. The brioche burger was loaded with some sort of cabbage inundated by a whitey strong as hell spiced up sauce. I tried 2 bites, but my throat closed down and couldn't eat it. The waiter saw it and when I went to ask him if perhaps the cook had forgot the request to leave spicy sauces out, simply jumped to tell me that he had told me it was spicy and hot. He went even further, when I reminded him he agreed to request to leave out the sauce, and hearing my thinn voice still affected and my red hot burning face that " it was hot for me", he remembered the last time with the quesadilla apparently and instead of feeling bad I wasted 2 meals and gave it 4 tries, rushed to say that " I always am like this". I left it there, nobody offered to replace my meal or an apology. His memory is as good as an elephant in recognizing my taste, but he also was extremely rude and the litle English that he has apparently he uses it to blame and discredit the client. Too bad, but I highly NOT RECCOMEND!!!!!!!! Oh and btw, this "impossible to eat mild food place", could not be good for kids, not even in your dreams, as any parent knows or as brunch, no huevos rancheros and good luck with your stomach.

If you think I am about to sound like an American with a bad attitude, then please stop reading now. However, if you hear me out, you might see my point. So, I was walking in Uppsala with my wife at around lunchtime when we spotted Zocalo, a "taqueria" we'd never heard of or seen. Being a SoCal boy, brought up on Baja fish tacos, carnitas, fresh salsas and chips, burritos al pastor, etc., I have the good sense not to expect much of EuroMex. In fact, I have the good sense and experience to not expect much outside a prescribed zone in the Southwestern US, primarily in California. But that's not the problem. The problem is that Zocalo promotes the idea that their food is "inspired by" the taquerias in "the Mission District" of San Francisco, where there are so many deservedly famous establishments, each having a particular approach and character. People hotly debate which has the best of various offerings and have fierce loyalties. The main similarity is the freshness, flavour, quality, and the great food you get for very little money at every place. Most have fresh salsa bars where several types of freshly made salsas and hot, fresh chips are constantly refreshed. And of course, all the main dishes are entirely freshly house made with great care and consistency, seasoned perfectly. Zocalo not only invites the comparison, but promotes it by going further and calling their stuff freshly made. But when I asked about the carnitas, for example, I was told it was from Germany, pre-made. There are no fresh salsas of any kind. The jalapeños are pickled. You have to ask for chips. I'll start with the good news. It might be the best you will get in Sweden. Understandably, doing something like Mexican food is highly problematic here because it so much depends on the availability of fresh ingredients of decent quality. The proper ingredients are simply unavailable here, or so expensive that using them would destroy a profit margin. Understood. BUT DON'T DECEIVE!!! The vegetarian burritos we ordered were OK compared to other faux EuroMex stuff I've tried, but still a pretty far cry from being good. Not much fresh about them. Zocalo, I lived in the SF Bay Area for 20 years and am extremely familiar with SF Mission taquerias. I love good, fresh, Mexican food. I am a knowledgeable food person, in general. Zocalo, you do not make anything that remotely resembles SF Mission style Mexican food and should not make the deceptive claim that you do. You invited the comparison, not me. You're busted!

Great Mexican food is simple and cheap. It fact, the cheaper it is, the better it is. That is rarely the case when it comes to food, which is part of what makes Mexican food such a simple, yet marvelous treasure in Los Angeles where everything is disgustingly overpriced. It doesn't need cute and trendy decoration or an HD digital menu with surround sound, because the food speaks for itself. Mexican food in Sweden is a travesty, plain and simple. It's overdone, overpriced and just...a major disappointment. You can get a burrito the size of your head, a giant plate of nachos and a horchata for $5 in a tiny and suspicious looking hole in the wall in LA. Hell, you can get tamales from the tamale man or tacos from the taco dude pushing a cart around south la for like a $1.50 (I don't recommend venturing there if you have never been out of Uppsala, the culture shock may overwhelm you). At this place, a sad plate of 5 nachos covered in what looks like green slime (it's supposed to be guacamole but honestly, you're better off buying some avocados, smashing them up with some tomatoes, onion and garlic powder and smuggling it in this joint in a plastic bag) and a "burrito" (IF IT ISN'T FULLY ROLLED UP, IT IS A WRAP....NOT.A.BURRITO!!!!) for 92kr. 92kr. Yes I said 92kr (roughly around 11 dollars I think...I suck at converting). I gave this place 3 stars because I knew what to expect and the service was decent. I know I will never eat delicious and cheap Mexican food for a long time, and yeah...I'm mostly just venting my frustrations. I hope that someday, someone will introduce the people of Sweden to authentic Mexican food, because it will change your life. Again, the people working here were nice and the food came fast. The water was warm though...I mean have you people never heard of ice??

The tacos were hard to distinguish between each other, the al pastor meat wasn't very flavorful, and the mushroom tacos were very oily. The bean and cheese quesadilla was great however, the refried beans reminded me of home in SoCal, just like the fried tortillas in taquerias.
