I am being extremely generous with the amount of stars I'm giving this place...because I know that Sweden is trying, they're failing, but they really do seem to be making an attempt at what they consider to be good Mexican food. I honestly believe that they are putting all their effort into it but hey, if you've never had authentic Mexican food...how can you even hope to come close to reaching that level of perfection?
I'm just going to start out by saying that I am spoiled when it comes to Mexican food. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA so I know good Mexican food. No, I know GREAT Mexican food. Great Mexican food is simple and cheap. It fact, the cheaper it is, the better it is. That is rarely the case when it comes to food, which is part of what makes Mexican food such a simple, yet marvelous treasure in Los Angeles where everything is disgustingly overpriced.
It doesn't need cute and trendy decoration or an HD digital menu with surround sound, because the food speaks for itself. Mexican food in Sweden is a travesty, plain and simple. It's overdone, overpriced and just...a major disappointment. You can get a burrito the size of your head, a giant plate of nachos and a horchata for $5 in a tiny and suspicious looking hole in the wall in LA. Hell, you can get tamales from the tamale man or tacos from the taco dude pushing a cart around south la for like a $1.50 (I don't recommend venturing there if you have never been out of Uppsala, the culture shock may overwhelm you).
At this place, a sad plate of 5 nachos covered in what looks like green slime (it's supposed to be guacamole but honestly, you're better off buying some avocados, smashing them up with some tomatoes, onion and garlic powder and smuggling it in this joint in a plastic bag) and a "burrito" (IF IT ISN'T FULLY ROLLED UP, IT IS A WRAP....NOT.A.BURRITO!!!!) for 92kr.
92kr. Yes I said 92kr (roughly around 11 dollars I think...I suck at converting). I gave this place 3 stars because I knew what to expect and the service was decent. I know I will never eat delicious and cheap Mexican food for a long time, and yeah...I'm mostly just venting my frustrations. I hope that someday, someone will introduce the people of Sweden to authentic Mexican food, because it will change your life. Again, the people working here were nice and the food came fast. The water was warm though...I mean have you people never heard of ice?? read more
