I finally had the chance to make it out to Edmonton's newest cafe that not only offers delicious food and drinks, but a huge selection of board games. I went with a girlfriend on a Tuesday night to avoid some of the rush at the shop. We were greeted by friendly staff, as well as the owner, who was chatting up all the new customers. The space is bright and open with a variety of tables and couches to set up a board game. It was $5 to play any board game from the wall of games. We were to choose our table and then started a tab with food and drinks, including our gaming fee. The menu was large including coffee, tea, beer, coolers, paninis, and desserts. My friend ordered a tea latte and I had a hot chocolate. Both drinks came out quickly and were really delicious! The hot chocolate was made with a really delicious dark chocolate syrup and had a really light flavor, the only thing missing was whip cream. We shared the cold pasta salad. It was made fresh that day and had a tasty light vinaigrette sauce. The brownie I ordered was quite possibly the most scrumptious, gooey, chocolate brownie of all time. We browsed the game selection and had a hard time making a choice to play. All of the games are organized in categories and are easy to peruse. They also have a large wall of games for sale, in case you find a game you really enjoy. Our tab ended up only being $25 for playing games, both drinks, and all of our food. It was a cheap, entertaining night out. I will definitely be making my way back to learn my hand at a few more strategic games! Ashley Marie

I'm extremely jealous of Table Top Cafe. Create a business from an activity you love and do it well, that's an ambition of mine! From Jenga to Puerto Rico you have a wide range of games at your finger tips. We played Puerto Rico, Forbidden Desert and King of Tokyo in one night for the price of $5 and drinks. The tab system is extremely efficient and clever. The crowd had some surprising variety as well. I will say it can get noisy inside with the noise from other patrons as well as the music from the bar next door. There are a fair number of tables, but on a Friday night it was pretty packed. I would suggest coming around 7ish on a Friday. All in all, I'm happy this establishment exists because this is Edmonton board game heaven!

You get to try some really random and fun games!!

I am so happy this place exists in Edmonton!! I remember hearing about it before it opened and was worried I would be disappointed. Thankfully this was not the case and since it opened I have come loads of times to hang out and catch up with friends over a board game. It's a fun alternative to Starbucks or going out to eat and there is such an amazing selection of games to choose from. The staff is awesome and really helpful if you want to skip reading the rules/instructions on a new game and be shown how to play. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is that I hope the cafe part improves in the food options. I think we paid something like $6 for a tiny veggie tray, and overall the variety just wasn't there. You can't bring outside food/drink, so if you plan on staying for a longer portion of the day I would recommend eating a hearty meal before you go. All that aside though, I love the Table Top Cafe, and I will definitely keep coming back!

The first store from Table Top Cafe. They have a wide variety of board games and card games to try and buy. I have been to this location numerous times and I always have a good time with friends. The staff is always helpful when it comes to suggesting or teaching games. Any time I visit I usually leave with interest in a new game. They have a good selection of snacks and beverages. They have quite a few sandwich options available. I recommend the Grilled Cheese. Table Top has a wide variety of beer and "adult" beverages. My wife usually gets an "adult" Slurpee while I usually stick with their craft beers or coffee. It's a $5 admission fee but your time is unlimited so you can have a long game session with friends or short visits without guilt. You can usually get a table however I recommend making reservations so that your group is guaranteed a spot. I have purchased quite a few games during my visit and I have not been disappointed with the prices. Table Top Cafe also has games available on "sale" so I always keep an eye out for something interesting. You can follow Table Top in Facbook, Twitter, and Instagram to hear about new games or events hosted at the cafe.

I love, love, LOVE going to the Table Top Cafe! This is a must-go place for my boyfriend, friends and I every time we venture to the south side of Edmonton. Upon entering, you are always greeted by friendly staff. You give them your name and order, and head to a table to begin an awesome gaming experience. They have so many different games for you to choose from, and the gaming levels start from beginner all the way up to advanced gamers. (They even have Monopoly for those of you who are too scared to try something new!) The food here is actually pretty good, although it takes a few options to fill you up. My favourites are definitely the Parmesan Naan with Marinara sauce and the Double Decker Cheese Panini (served with lots and lots of ketchup!). I always seem to end up pairing these with a Grown-Up Slush - the fruit punch with rum is delectable! If you're looking for something sweet, definitely try their carrot cake (only if they have any left - it seems to be a big seller). The best part about going here, though, is trying all the new games they bring in. We have tried so many and ended up buying them to take home. The nice thing is you don't have to fell obligated to buy them to try them. Some of my favourite games include Steam Park, Dead of Winter, Betrayal at House on Haunted Hill, and, of course, Munchkin. If you haven't tried any of these games, head on down to Table Top Cafe today and treat yourself! I love that it's only $5 to play and you can play all day - such a cheap date day/night idea!

I've been a customer of River City for quite a few years, and I made a trip last fall to stock up on jigsaw puzzles. The selection here is one of the best in the city, and honestly the prices were much better than Amazon or other online vendors I checked. The sales staff are very helpful, and were happy to go through their stock with me on the phone before I drove over. Along with puzzles, there are aisles of board games, and a huge section of supplies for pool tables, ping pong tables and other themed decor. I love coming here to browse, and prefer this location over their West Edmonton Mall store (which is also great) - there is more stock and more room to browse without feeling crowded.

Alright, the truth is you can probably find some of the board games here for cheaper online. The…read moreproblem is you have to wait for delivery and as we all know time = money. I've been to this location at least a dozen times. The staff is very helpful. When I was looking for a game I couldn't find it among the rows of options. The staff, seeing I was clearly looking, asked me what I was looking for and together we were able to locate it. I will say they don't have every popular or highly rated game here. However, they do have some great ones. I'd recommend you visit here because I think this location is the least busiest. Makes for quick grab and pay.

They have a great selection of games: trading cards, board games, and paintables. And gaming accessories. Building is not wheelchair accessible. The gaming area is upstairs and the sales floor is cramped. I found the customer service to be just.. not helpful? They weren't rude but they certainly under explained every step of the process. I have shopped here twice and and the same odd customer service experience both times. On one visit, I traded one 1 Magic the Gathering card for in-store credit and was asked if I had done an online trade-in order. Their website does not mention that trade-ins should be done online prior to visiting the store so while at the store, I placed an online trade-in via their website and traded in the 1 card. The associate took the card to the back to the card appraiser. The appraiser came back out a few minutes later with another card for another customer and gave the associate at the till the thumbs up on my trade-in. I had requested an in-store credit, so was expecting a gift card or something physical to represent that. So the associate and the till and I just stared at each other for the most awkward 20 seconds of my life until I asked how I get my in-store credit and he finally explained to me that the credit goes onto my email on file. Ah! Thank you for telling me! A few days later I receive an email asking about my trade-in because my sell list didn't match their records. It was cleared up no problem with a few emails back and forth, but makes for another awkward customer service experience. I have placed 2 online orders, both with errors. The first was a couple dollars difference and the second was less than one dollar difference. Not a huge deal but annoying since I didn't notice until I was home. I will double check any future orders while in store.

Tons of tempting action figures and sculptures. Books on creating comics. The staff are always helpful and willing to assist me in finding anything I can't quite place or remember. The negative reviews I've read here seem to expect some kind of big-box-store phony PR campaign from the staff. I think they are mistaking people who are naturally shy or introverted (typical comic book readers?) with being unfriendly or unwilling to help. When I've taken the time to engage with the guys who work here I've had nothing but great experiences, digging through crates to find a certain story arc with my favorite characters, getting recommendations based on other things I've enjoyed, having variant covers set aside until they're ready to go on sale, etc. I'm always greeted by someone at either door when I walk in, and even though they know me by now they always ask if they can help me find anything. I don't know what people are expecting. Complimentary tiramisu? Overall this place is a great regular stop if you're a comic book, tabletop or action figure/memorabilia collector and I strongly disagree with reviews stating that the customer service is lukewarm. If you're comfortable in any other hobbyist shop you'll be comfortable here.

Frankly I find this store overly crowded and not terribly friendly. As a woman who happens to be…read moreinterested in comic books, general geeky things, and games, I find it to be exceedingly important that there be good sight lines in a store of this variety and I find it confusing and hard to navigate as a store location. It really could lead to some uncomfortable encounters with staff or patrons simply because of the layout of the store. In addition I was there with a tall person recently and the items hanging from the ceiling hit his head. This is not good in general. It's a very disorganized clutter-filled store. And feels unusually crowded even when not many people are in there. I would much rather patronize other similar stores in Edmonton that do not have quite such a cluttered/unsafe aesthetic. It also took us a LONG time to find a staff member to help us in searching for a comic we were seeking (it was unavailable). It's good that this part of town has comics/games/etc. options for shopping but I really wish that it were more of a friendly place to shop, especially for people who are new to particular hobbies.
