I come here on the regular cause of its proximity to my job. I come for lunch and to watch champions league soccer matches. They have a fixed menu and the daily specials menu. I rarely order anything from the fixed menu and always try something different on the special menu. On Saturdays always order the caldo verde soup. You won't be dissatisfied. It's only available sat. It's a kale soup. If you want a good sandwich get the chivito, although its native to Uruguay it's awesome. Steak, ham, fried egg, peppers onions cheese, and comes with fries. It's not the menu just ask for it. Their steaks and chickens are typically consistent and good you can always ask for different sides unless I get special treatment since I'm there all the time. If the grilled swordfish is ever available on the specials menu get it! Around lunch time it's loud with a bunch of blue collar Portuguese dudes yelling about soccer and work. A friend of mine had recommended this place. So my family and I were out and we were hungry. We were craving Portuguese BBQ. And I remembered my friend had said come to this place. Wow talk about a hidden Gem!! The restaurant is in a shady area but hey listen private parking and don't worry you are safe. We came here for lunch. Our server was fantastic! She was so welcoming and such a delight. We ordered the combo with chicken and ribs. Wow definitely was tasty and satisfying. We were full and content. We ordered dessert and the flan tasted so good. Taberna del Rei is a nice small restaurant with an old timey feel. The wait staff are very polite and helpful. 2 waiters helped our large group of 15. The portions are HUGE!!!! For example, I ordered the half chicken and it came with rice. When it arrived, it was almost a full half chicken, a large 1/2 plate of orange rice and the other half was fries. I couldn't finish the rice and fries. I don't think anyone could. The chicken was well cooked and the skin on the chicken was nicely seasoned and crispy. read more

Very disappointing. Ordered the Parillada which was $72. The calamari was overcooked, tasteless with no seasoning making it almost unedible , clams casino had a pungent odor like a dirty rag, tasteless lobster was overcooked and dry making it difficult to get the meat off the shell, the fried white fish and salmon was unseasoned, overcooked as if it was precooked sitting around before being thrown in the fryer. Rice was undercooked and peas had an unpleasant rotten taste. Nothing about this dish was fresh. I honestly feel robbed and dont understand where all these high reviews are coming from. read more

Restaurant has really gone down hill. We used eat there awhile ago and decided to try it again really dissapointing! The food was dry and lacked flavor! Desert was awful! Ruined my mother's day! When I first moved to the area, this was one of my favorite restaurants. I live in walking distance. Then I experienced bias (I'm not going to call it racism). But, on many occasions, Including tonight. They close at 10 on this particular night & I walked into the takeout window at 9:40 and the waitress acted as if she spoke no English (I only said "acted" because she has taken my order before). I only wanted a dessert. But she wouldn't even check to see what they had left she kept saying "sorry close sorry close" With this face as if I've been bothering her all day. I will not speak bad of the rest of the staff Because there are some real sweet waitresses there, however, there are at least two that treat me as if I'm a pest. Ironically, this is the reason I stopped going there in the first place. I hope it gets better. We are in a pandemic and we should be really helping each other Get through.
