After 3 months of pure agony, endless doctor visits and a cortisone injection at UCLA into my husbands herniated discs (S1 being the worst of 3 bulging discs in his lower lumbar), my dear friend, a retired chiropractor in Florida, suggested seeing a good chiropractor in LA. With that said, I jumped on it because that's what this girl does. Once I got the list from our insurance, Blue Shield of CA, I immediately hit my "Yelp" app and boom! 2 of the chiropractors on my list were here with epic reviews. After reading that a patient of Dr. Allegro's suffered from a similar issue, I picked up the phone and made an appointment for my hubby. At his first visit, the Dr. spent ample time explaining what was really going on with his back and told him that it might take several sessions before he noticed a difference. Well, after 1 session he felt a little better. Each additional visit my husband has felt better and manages to stand for longer periods of time. He can now sit properly without immediate discomfort. *Plenty of street parking - read all posted signs *Accepts most insurance - call to confirm *Reasonable fee if you don't have insurance *Extremely knowledgeable about the spine

2017 Yelp 100 challenge 5/100…read more I've been coming here for many years. But here's my story... Once upon a time, I was ignorant of the teachings, beliefs, and value of chiropractic work, as it just wasn't something we learned about in school. Instead, I learned all about drugs and their value in treating patients. But when I developed numbness in both hands, I had to see someone! My first step was the hand specialists at USC (read my review...rolling my eyes). The doctor stated I had classic carpal tunnel, and spent less than 5 minutes flat telling me I needed surgery. Um, no way! As I was talking to my other healthcare friends, I heard one talk about Dr. Verdugo. Honestly, I decided it couldn't hurt! It took me a couple months of debating before I went to see Dr. Verdugo, but he was pleasant, professional, and was willing to answer all my questions about Chiropractic. And I'm not kidding when I say I had a lot of questions! His answers put me at ease and made me understand the logic behind chiropractic work! He took his time, explained, he took some X-rays, reviewed them with me, and developed a treatment plan. Honestly, within a month, the numbness went away-and it hasn't returned. I've learned to get in tune with my body, and now I can tell when my atlas is out. When I see Dr. Verdugo, he confirms it! My girlfriend had excruciating headaches which would keep her up and she would even have to miss work from the pain! I referred her to Dr. Verdugo, and from that first day he adjusted her, it subsided! She mentions that had she not met Dr. Verdugo, she probably would have shot herself by now from all the pain! Isn't that amazing? We both owe it to Dr. Verdugo! Not all chiropractors are created equal!

Instead of rushing through appointments, he made sure to dig deeper and find the root of the problem. Thanks to Dr. James, I'm finally functional again and able to move the way I'm supposed to. EXCELLENCE, DECENCY AND CONSUMMATE PROFESSIONALISM…read more This is actually a (revised) repost of a review left months ago that must've not been posted using a new app that apparently doesn't work. But I can do this from memory, as my sentiments haven't changed and have possibly even become stronger over time. I can't say enough how grateful I am to have found Dr. Shannahoff. It started off as a group of treatments that were gifted to me by a dear friend. After the treatment package ended, I stayed on and the initial spinal decompression therapy has now expanded to anti-inflammatory hyperbaric oxygen chamber therapy. He should open a food court at the office, because at this point, I'd probably eat there, as well. Joking aside, Dr. Shannahoff is firstly, one of the best human beings I have ever met. And as rare as this happens for me, he and I have become friends and talk about our common interests outside of pain management and health. He's the easiest guy to talk to and is as nice as they come. As far as his treatment goes, I can firmly say that it has opened up physical possibilities that were once limited by extreme pain and limited range of motion. With him, I'm back cycling again, surfing and doing activities that I normally would've avoided because of the painful aftermath associated with them. Additionally, I've been able to get off of my pharmaceutical pain regimen, which brought with it a whole host of other issues. Of course, with the back, it's up and down and I'm my own worst enemy when I push myself too hard and have to crawl into his office to get fixed or stretched back to normal. But I honestly don't know where I'd be without "Dr. B," as I call him. He helps me understand the limits and how to live a fulfilling life within those limits without feeling shortchanged in any way. He's also become an unexpected friend and a life anchor for me when I needed that the most. I guess things happen for a reason. So thank you, Dr. B--you're a true mensch and I bless the day I met you! I suppose if there's a takeaway from this review, then it might be this: Dr. Shannahoff is one of the few doctors who I can say positively shaped the course of my health (as well as mental approach to health) the MOST. He has shown me how wonderful and beneficial a patient-doctor relationship could be and truly gives me something to look forward to on the days I go to see him. It also is one appointment for which I will GLADLY take on the Los Angeles traffic! So, if you want to get serious about resolving your back and flexibility issues, know that Dr. Shannahoff is more than just a chiropractor, he is a HEALER. And if your goal is to reduce inflammation and even (according to the experts) look younger and possibly live longer, then you should also look into hyperbaric oxygen therapy--whether with Dr. Shannahoff or someone else. And BONUS: women who didn't really give me a second look are asking me "what I did" because I look "ten years younger." I just say, "Ancient Chinese secret." (with a totally inappropriate Mandarin accent). No joke. Give Dr. Shannahoff a try, even though you've been to DCs before or think you've exhausted similar avenues. Remember that healing is facilitated through the hands (and heart) of the individual healer, so every healer brings with him/her a different level of said healing. Thanks for reading and may you continue on your personal healing journey to successful maintenance or a conclusion!
