Scope Environmental - Just for fun :-)

"Multiple Layers" of Deception and Unprofessionalism…read more.. In my correspondence with Gene K., a representative of Scope Environmental (cut and pasted from Yelp chat room) mentions "We can definitely help. Our asbestos inspection, survey, and lab results pricing is very competitive. It's $625 for the inspection and report. Each sample is $35. No other fees. Generally, results and reports will be available within 24-48 hours". Gene K. also mentioned the following "Some samples have multiple layers, and that can not be determined prior to taking the physical sample. You are welcome to call in so that you can properly comprehend the procedures". However, UNDISCLOSED FEES can creep into the price charged to the customer, e.g. such as the need to test "multiple layers" of one material; so, "No other fees" is (deliberately) misleading and therefore, deceptive. A field inspector (Daisy Flamenco) of Scope Environmental, arrived at the project site and upon seeing the area that needed sampling, asked the homeowner for a ladder to get her modest stature to the sampling material areas. When sampling the ceiling, Ms. Flamenco was barely able to reach the sampling surface (needed to be on her tippy toes), even with a step ladder (provided by the homeowner). ALL sample takers must come fully prepared for all conditions at the work site and not rely on the homeowner to provide tools, equipment or assistance of any kind to do THEIR job! Ms. Flamenco was dressed casually, no respirator or other appropriate protective equipment or gear, which is not only hazardous to herself, but sends the message to the homeowner (overseeing the work), that asbestos is really not that harmful. Even two and a half years following the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is appropriate if all workers who enter a home, to wear a mask or at least offer to wear one, but Ms. Flamenco failed to show the occupants of the residence, such consideration. Most (professional) people return to bad pre-pandemic habits, even if to protect the home's occupants from the common cold. What is really inconsiderate and unprofessional, is that Ms. Flamenco had disturbed suspected asbestos containing materials by scraping and cutting away material from parts of a furnace and its ducts, leaving the furnace and ducts out-of-order, i.e. if no asbestos or other harmful materials were found, the furnace and ducts could not be safely and effectively used without first repairing them. Leaving carcinogenic materials exposed (cutting, scraping or otherwise removing and exposing asbestos) to those who live at the work site, is hazardous and unprofessional and should never be done this way. Exposing harmful materials puts people and animals at risk of exposure to carcinogens and asbestosis causing particles! Asbestos sample takers should take measures to seal or otherwise cover, exposed asbestos containing materials (when they are through sampling them), to protect home occupants. This experience was a wake-up call to how incompetent workers can make a bad situation, worse!

We contacted Scope Environmental because they specialize in a wide range of services, including sewage and mold remediation. Veronika was courteous, highly responsive, and scheduled a team to come out the same day. Peter and his crew were professional, efficient, and thorough. They quickly extracted the standing water, debris, and sewage, then applied absorbent materials to the wet areas to remove moisture. They also installed heaters and drying equipment to prevent further damage. I appreciated that they returned over the following days to monitor progress and ensure everything was drying properly. Their support during such a stressful situation made a world of difference. I highly recommend this reliable, family-owned company for anyone needing this kind of emergency cleanup services.

11:50 AM Over my 20+…read moreyears in claims, first as a Public Adjuster--and before that as an insurance adjuster- and aslo as an insurance Appraiser and court appointed Umpire on disputed claims--I've worked claims all over the USA and two foreign countries. I have met numerous industrial hygienists on sewage, pollutant, trauma/bodily fluid, smoke and fire damage claims. Too many hygienists talk a good game but fail to deliver when it counts. Sol Environmental is better. Sol was recommended to me by a senior entertainment attorney overseeing a large legal team, and that endorsement proved accurate. When I first met with Raul and Nick at Sol Environmental, I immediately recognized their technical depth and concern for the clients. They discussed testing protocols for contaminants that most hygienists overlook or simply don't understand--particularly the volatile organic compounds and particulate matter that pose serious health risks in post-fire environments. When other hygients test for lead and asbestos, Sol is testing for everything: mercuty, silica, arsenic, dioxins, cadmium, barium lithium, you name it in addition to the lead and asbestos. What sets Sol apart is their background as specialty remediation contractors. They don't just identify contamination--they understand the actual remediation process, which makes their protocols far more comprehensive and defensible than what I typically see from competitors. Their protocols meet the standard of care, which is rare in this field. Sometimes I just need good sampling and lab results. But if i need a defensible step by step protocol, Sol is great. More importantly, they're willing to stand their ground when insurance carriers bring in questionable experts pushing junk science to minimize scope and deny proper remediation. Sol backs up their findings with solid scientific evidence and proper testing methodology. In claims where bad faith is already an issue, having a hygienist who won't fold under pressure is invaluable. I've referred Sol Environmental to multiple clients, and they've consistently helped secure the proper remediation my clients deserve. They do difficult work in contentious situations, and they do it well. I recommend them without reservation. Leland Coontz, Public Adjuster license #2B53445 (714) 724 1767

We would recommend them to anyone with mold issues.

Unbeknownst to them, California Closets nailed a cabinet directly into an outflow pipe attached to the upstairs guest bathroom years prior to us moving in! None of our inspectors caught this issue before we moved in because that area didn't get a lot of use, so it was dry during inspections, and covered by other built-in cabinets (a hidden, nasty slow leak!). I was devastated to learn of this issue! We finally detected the issue when mold started appearing on the wall around the built-ins. You can imagine how stressed and shocked I was! So, I researched different companies and decided to try Mold Masters. I was able to schedule an inspection consultation quickly and easily. The cost of the inspection went toward the remediation expense. The inspector displayed the utmost professionalism, was super caring, answered all my questions, and really took the time to make sure that my home would receive impeccable respect. I had an instant feeling of trust that this was the company I wanted to go with. Once I scheduled the remediation, Mold Masters started almost immediately. They recognized my sense of urgency and accommodated my needs. The remediation team was amazing - super caring, careful, and respectful of noise and working hours. I was able to see progress and get updates real-time. They completed their work in under 6 days! They did an amazing job cleaning every last spot of mold. The structure of my home was intact, and I felt like the problem was solved! They did such a great job on the clean-up that I wanted them to do the rebuild too. This was another amazing experience with a wonderful contractor point of contact who made sure I got everything I needed fixed, down to the last tiny detail. They handled everything with the utmost care and respect. They were on time every day and respectful of the amount of noise. Additionally, this was not an easy job - they had to work around my water heater in a small corner... I was amazed at their artisanship, matching paint, flooring, etc. They completed the rebuild, paint, baseboards, trim and all in 6 days!! I am beyond pleased with Mold Masters' care and quality of work. I would highly recommend this company to anyone with a mold issue from start to finish!!

Good communication and quick scheduling. I was able to have a technician come out the same day I called to schedule. The technician was extremely friendly and helpful. He answered all my questions while he was concentrating on the testing, set up etc. He was careful with his words meaning he didn't cause any unnecessary stress or anxiety. He wasn't pushy and was conscious of the cost while also recommending what samples are needed or suggested. He was clean and careful. Cons: Expensive compared to other mold testing companies. The invoice can quickly add up. I originally planned for about $800 ($500 base fee plus $75 for 4 samples). I added on asbestos test and that brought my bill to over $1300. In some ways I see this as a positive though because you get what you pay for (I hope and can't compare to any other company). My whole house wasn't moisture mapped as I was told it would be. The tech said they only focus on the reported areas of concern. Not a big deal but would've been nice to know. I kept getting rescheduled by 15 minutes. The tech was running late then running early so that was a little confusing. I jokingly asked them if I get compensation for the changed appt time since I signed the contract already (they charge $150 for any changes). They said no. The report is a bit confusing as it was the first time. The most annoying is that in the asbestos report they suggested further testing. Likely costing another $1000 or more. I thought I was already paying for the best testing. This feels a bit like a trick in some ways. Overall I'd go to JLM again. I suggest to do some research beforehand though to know exactly what you need done (AND WHY meaning are you renovating or just wanting to know for health reasons etc) so you don't get unneeded tests or costs.
