Inside, the converted house has several rooms worth of items, some seasonal, that included paintings, wall hangings, and generally decorative items. There is a back addition to the business that requires a few steps down. There I found wind chimes and some other larger items that took up too much room to be included in the smaller rooms at the front. The woman working was greeting the customers as they entered and she encouraged visitors to browse around and ask if they had any questions. The building is filled with antique furniture, hardware, doors, kitchen ware and assorted knickknacks. I even saw a kitchen sink. Several vintage cameras caught my eye. The volunteer staff is super friendly, cheerful and welcoming. We were told their story and encouraged to look around. Prices ranged from really reasonable to high. Clearance tables were in the back. Inventory changes regularly. The building is upscale from the outside and a little hard to find as it is located at the end of one way street. There is street parking around the building. Worth a visit if you're remodeling and looking unique decor.

The volunteers (the artists themselves) are always friendly and helpful should you need assistance. In the summer it is cool inside and always sparkling clean. Yesterday I bought notecards of painted woodpeckers and felted acorns to use as a photo prop. Note that there is a ramp up to the door facing the street but not the door facing the alley.

Just so you know: The Brown County Antique Mall is actually three different buildings…read more The main one, which sits just off the road, is your typical antique store. It has all kinds of tchotchkes, doodads, baubles, trinkets and other old and unique miscellany. The store is separated into booths, and there are different things in each booth. I saw all kinds of things that I wanted, but I had to physically stop myself from buying some of the vintage milk glass mugs. No one needs a milk glass mug with a buffalo on it, but the heart wants what the heart wants, sometimes. If you leave the main building and walk outside, and then turn to the right, you will see the second building: Route 46 Vintage. This vintage store deserves its own review, so you can read my separate review for that. But I'll just say that this is where you'll find funky vintage clothing and accessories. Then, there's a little shed-looking building that has more antiques and fun stuff, and also handmade goods from local artisans. Basically, the Brown County Antique Mall is a little campus full of eclectic treasures. You can definitely spend an hour or so here (or more!) looking through all of the stuff and buying all the things.

So we are definitely going back to this shop to check out what we missed and to see what new items were added by the vendors. The building we did see was a good size and the variety abounds. I love costume jewelry and was able to find several pieces that I liked and I brought home. There were big outdoor items on the front porch when we walked up. The place is right on the highway and easy to get to with adequate parking. The prices in the booths varied greatly with some being very reasonable and some I thought were high but I think that is the same as most antique/vintage stores of this type. We had a lot of fun shopping there and when we checked out the cashier was nice and helpful and told us about a couple store policies that we asked about. Jewelry, paintings, pottery, sculptures, and more are available here, and of course with all being hand made, they are always adding new pieces to their collection. The owner is a retired local school teach and she was weaving a basket while we shopped. She was very friendly and nice to chat with, and her husband make many pieces of earrings, necklaces, and other types of jewelry from various sizes of copper. His work is done thru a magnifying glass as it is very intricate with tiny details that look too small to have been created by hand. There are many small pieces of art as well as very large mantle pieces that would fill a tall wall above a large fireplace. This is a cool little gem of a store that anyone coming to downtown Shelbyville on public square should check out. Prices seemed on par for the amount of work involved in each piece.
