After leaving rehab, I decided, due to my wife's excellent experience, to go to Isand Sports. I was given a program designed for my specific needs. I was closely supervised, and monitored. I began to recover based on Dan Donato's - and staff's- care and expertise. But I didn't realize how much i recovered until our first beach trip. When we arrived at the beach, we discovered that the boardwalk to the beach was washed away, and this necessitated a long mile and a half walk burdened with beach stuff. It wasn't until we returned to our car that I had managed to easily walk 3 miles in sand. Prior to my treatment, 20 yards on pavement was an achievement. Two major surgeries later, I'm currently a patient at Island Sports. I'm never alone either on the exercise table or the gym. I have osteoporosis,a paralyzed right leg, have limited use of my arms, and am taking a blood thinner, so a fall could be catastrophic. I am supervised and offered any assistance I may look like I need. And many is the time that while standing to do an exercise, a welcome hand is placed on my back to steady and support me. I don't ask for this, but the point is I DON'T HAVE TO. I feel safe and in very good hands at Island Sports and Physical Therapy in Nesconset. It is also a place that provides the kind of atmosphere that patients feel welcome and also have the ability to interact with other patients, if one desires. My best friend always goes to St. James, and while my father is in another facility due to needing more supervision, I don't feel they care for him the way St. James cares for my friend. The attention and compassion at St. James are unmatched, and they even offer iPad calls, something many other facilities don't provide. The staff is amazing, and I truly believe that comes from strong leadership. The head of this facility, Cristen Wei, was our case manager years ago and was promoted to Administrator. Because of my loved one's needs, we have used this facility for years, and I can confidently say I love all of the staff and absolutely adore Cristen. She is the most patient, kind, and compassionate person, and it's clear that she has created a culture where the staff goes above and beyond for their residents. It's hard to put into words the experience we/I had. My mother in law spent her last days on earth…read morein this "crap hole". There are just too many episodes to mention ALL in this review. And honestly the pain is still so raw from losing her. There is not enough staff and those that do work there have become so complacent to what is happening around them they don't even notice or care about the woman sitting in a wheelchair completely shirtless!Screaming! Crying! In a soiled diaper! Sadly this is how I found my mother-in-law almost every evening. As soon as she heard my voice she'd calm down. Which leaves me to wonder, How long was she like that?! When she needed to be attended to, the buzzer was useless! I actually had to call the front desk with my cell phone from her room to get some help. I use the term "room" loosely. It's a bed. That's it. I don't care if it's dementia, Alzheimer's or Rehabilitation for a hip replacement Each resident simply needs to be treated with respect so they can hold onto whatever dignity they may have left. As mentioned in another review, family members need to be with their loved ones as much as possible, so they can advocate on their behalf. God only knows what happens when we aren't there. The unexplained bruises...Even if she fell out-of-bed, it is Inexcusable! Mom was in the facility next-door as well.... I can say the same for them. Absolutely disgusting. I have photos - videos and a daily journal. When the time is right, they will be reinforcement! I am emotionally scarred from the experience of watching my beautiful Mother in law slowly die. Our health care system is broken. "We don't have enough staff" is not acceptable justification for the lack of care. Our society needs to RESPECT our elders! It's the what they deserve. What every human being DESERVES. These facilities are about profit and bed/patient turn around. I pray everyday that she didn't know or understand what was happening to her because it was just so horrific!! Completely heartbroken. Rest In Peace Mom.

Yes I have daily challenges and often the PT is arduous and sometimes painful. Yet, I know in the long run it will benefit me tremendously. While my orthopedic surgeon has painted a bleak outlook for my full recovery, the staff here has not. They challenge me physically and look after my well-being.
