The food court had 2 people, that hallway and the main hallway had 10 people that I could see. The 2 of us, the 2 in the food court, a mom, Dad and little kid, a janitor and 2 more barely visible. Most stores were closed or empty. Pennys was open but I dont like Pennys. If you have your heart set on a particular store, I would call in advance. We were going to Bath and Body Works. I was worried but it was open. Oh there was a small live band playing their heart out near the food court. They were decent but I felt bad for them. The mall was empty. No one was there to enjoy them. The mall itself was clean. But at 2pm on a Sunday, a prime shopping time, at least 40% of stores were closed for the day. I remember back in the day when Kauffmann's and Macy's were there and still took pride in their store, this mall was bustling. Not anymore. It is sad.

There is only one anchor left of the four it had when it opened. Lazarus has become a hospital. About half of the mall is now hospital. It's an interesting concept. There is a JC Penney open; granted in a reduced footprint. There is less than one corridor of mall left. There are two others that are barren storefronts. My review may be biased because I don't like Walmart. They need to pay employees more. I am a Costco kind of girl. At noon on a Monday, the parking lot was full but the store seemed empty. Certainly customer service was. I was expecting to get a physical card but they were out. So I will have to figure the app out. The appearance of Sam's compared to Costco is that it is more dark and dingy. Seemed like a sad store to me. The entrance had flowering baskets but not the big beautiful stuff Costco carries. But unlike Costco, the aisles are labeled. Costco moves stuff around. That is frustrating I was there for 4 things which their app said they had. Nope, only had 2 of what I came for. This store is more than 20 miles away and with current gas prices I like to know if they are out. Costco's app tells me when something is in stock or low stock. Not having what I came in for was a real turnoff. Prices. Comparing prices they are close to the same as Costco. They also carry many of the Kirkland brands under their Members Mark label. I did not see any of the good premium brands that Costco carries at an extremely good discount. Quality...I will get my baked goods from Costco. Sam's bakery is not enticing. Same with prepared foods. Produce looked more iffy as well. Samples...didnt try them. They weren't clearly marked and the people manning various sample stations clearly weren't interested in dispensing them. Checkout was easy but confusing. Were those weird things self checkout because unlike Costco, you can also scan items as you put them in your cart and just leave. The checkout woman was friendly. When I approached checkout, there were only 2 customers for all the registers. All in all, for me, Sam's is 20 mi away, Costco 40. I will drive the 40 miles unless I am in the Mansfield area. At least Costco lets me know in their app that what I want is in stock plus I love the Costco bakery and prepared foods. But having written this, if you are a Wal-Mart person, Sam's may be right up your alley. I like brighter happier stores. This store was dingy and sad even though the store itself was clean. I will not renew my membership unless it stays at $15!!!!
