    Tonkatsu Ramen

Some.of the best ramen I've had in Central Florida. The tonkatsu ramen is super flavorful and overall delicious. Awesome price at $15. Love the marinated egg and garlic oil.

Great Japanese food at the Joinery

It is one of the restaurants inside the Joinery in Lakeland. I was told they have great ramen. But when I was checking out the menu, I changed my mind to Karaage as they were made with chicken tigh meat. I also got the juicy and pork belly bao. Food was very good and flavorful! I will definitely come back to try the ramen next!

Love this spot!! I've been to Lakeland a couple of times and I always stop here. It's located inside of the Joinery, a food hall with lots of options. It's perfect to grab a bite with large groups. There's something for everyone. Sabu is incredible. There's always a line but they move fast! I got the tonkatsu ramen and the honey chicken buns. The ramen broth is so flavorful. The garlic aioli on the buns just wow, amazing. So good. 10/10 recommend!

I was skeptical because these food hall places can be overpriced and lacking in quality. The vegetable ramen was hands down the best vegetarian ramen I have ever had. It was so flavorful and rich. I loved it. My only criticism is that the kimchi was too salty.

INCREDIBLE tonkotsu ramen, hihly recommend getting it. The broth was really flavorful with a hint of sweetness. The pork and eggs were awesome, as were the pickled mushrooms. The vegetarian ramen was also really good, my wife said it was among the best she's ever had. The miso cucumbers were a bit of a letdown, way too salty. The vegetarian buns were also really good. Would definitely come back.

I actually thought I already did a review of Sabu. After all it's my go to when I come to the Joinery. Sabu is one of several in this food hall. Definitely the cool place to be in downtown Lakeland. I only mention this, but I've been to the restaurants here except for Mexican place GallGallito Taqueria. I have nothing against the place, but it's hard for me to turn down ramen. With that I think it says a lot about their ramen. I've tried most of the variations but tonkatsu is by far my favorite. Sabu has upgraded a bit. They have added a counter at their little place. Definitely adds some authenticity to their vibe. Service is at the little window. It's kind of tight there considering it's next to where you pick up you food. So if there's a line it all sort of causes a back up. Now my ramen has near perfect presentation. The flavor is a bit stronger but in a good way (IMHO). ThThe chashu has a fatty but tender charring. There are plenty of shitake mushrooms and the ajitsuke tomago is spot on. Now there are several places in the downtown area that would recommend but this is the cool place to go if you're in a group and no one can settle on one place.

The Tonkatsu Ramen was great but the mushrooms didn't have that satisfying snap when you bite them, and the broth tasted a little funky. But somehow, the other flavors in the broth make up for it because it has a nice sweetness, umami, and saltiness. Great ramen.

It was our first time at the joinery in Lakeland downtown. I took some seniors to lunch yesterday and we were walking around deciding what to eat. I walked by a pizza spot and The Sabu restaurant. There was a guy in front of me who order the spicy miso ramen. It looked amazing: so I ordered one as well it was chicken- dashi broth, chili- miso rare, crispy chasers, grilled corn, marinated bean sprouts, mema, chili oil, scallions, mushrooms, spice bomb. Your choice of spice: mild, hot, hotter, hottest. I chose hot and it wasn't too spicy at all it just gave it the right spice. I will definitely be going back the food and customer service was amazing.

I was excited to try ramen in Lakeland and discovered the Joinery, which is a warehouse style multi-use space for restaurants and shops. There's also an in-house brewery. Sābu is one of the stall restaurants onsite with a trendy feel. You place your order at the counter and there's a shared eating space next to a bar lounge. The total vibe of the Joinery is clean and bright, so it's a great place to go for a quick bite or date. Although I did like the presentation, the food was not up to expectations. The spicy ramen bowl I ordered was not spicy, the broth was thick and had a slight kimchi flavor. The toppings were average and not much to talk about. My friend ordered the Tonkotsu bowl which looked flavorful but it tasted mediocre at best. We ordered a Bao appetizer that was suggested to us. It was all crunch and no real flavors that jumped out. I didn't enjoy the texture, which tasted like ground beef and left a bit too long in the fryer. I really wanted to love this place but there's too many misses in this ramen bar. I gave it a 3 simply because the ambiance, style, customer service, and effort so it deserved a rating. There's plenty of parking in the lot.

Sabu Ramen located at the main hall. They have the longest line among all the Vendor. After order, they will issue a beeper for your food ready to pickup. Price is reasonable for a meal. We got the Tonkutsu Ramen with pan fried braise pork belly. The pork belly is delicious. We also got the Karaage. Their Karaage need to be more crispy. It also come with red sweet sauce. Food is good. We also got a strawberry boba. This is a good drink to have.

Easily my favorite place to eat at the Joinery. Any given time I'n here for ramen, I am surrounded by several other tables that were on the save wavelength holding bowls of noodle goodness. Tonkotsu ramen. After that is a preference of fatty or crispy pork belly, if youre looking for a traditional experience you'll find that with the fatty but if youre willing to try something new, lets make it crispy. I'd suggest being consistent of you get extra because it doesnt work to get both. The noodles are fresh, pork is delicious and toppings make the bowl drink worthy. Staff is friendly and knowledgable of each and every item on the menu and willing to coach you on what's best to get for your tastebuds. The ONLY thing keeping it from a 5 all around is I did experience the broth being a tad and I mean a tad too salty which can be expected with extra pork. A little tweaking and this could be absolutely perfect, but never stopped me from getting another bowl. Thanks.

    Always so good.

I don't give out five star reviews often but every time I eat here it's spot on. The ramen is amazing and the chicken karrage is so good as well as gluten free ! They have rice noodle option as well for gluten free. Situated in the Joinery. Staff friendly, very busy inside but lots of seating. Gluten free options galore too.

Intense and thick soup that coats your noodle. Very authentic flavour, love the Tonkatsu broth and works so well with the pickled mushroom.

My friends ordered the Korean Hot Dog with potato half-dog, half-cheese and the hibachi. The cheese pull on the Korean hot dog was insanneee, my friend had couldn't keep pulling w arm because it kept going lol. The service was excellent, our server was attentive, funny, cleared all our empty plates, and was very on top of it. Our food came out fast! The ramen was delicious and the spice was the perfect kind that gave it great flavor but didn't have the nose running. The toppings on the Takoyaki were generous with a great texture. My oolong tea was a bit on the watery side but it's brewed fresh so I didn't mind. My friends loved their hibachi, I had a bite of the veggies and they were cooked to perfection. They said the miso soup and yum yum was on the sweet side which they weren't the biggest fan of but was obsessed with everything else. Will definitely come back when I'm in the area especially now that I know it's next to a Hobby Lobby.

Oh, make no…read moremistake, I knew that I liked it from the first visit, but it took a bit of reflection, and a bit of exploring the menu, for Oksumi's charm to really unfold, before me. Read other reviews, and the phrase "nothing fancy" keeps appearing. Another reviewer calls it "simple" and "to the point." This, right here, is the soul of Oksumi. It isn't a restaurant using the idea of ramen as a canvas for the ego of a chef looking to reinvent the dish. It is a ramenya, and its menu is a love letter to ramen. It does not need to uplift or reinvent ramen, because ramen is already perfect, as it is. One does not taste ego in Oksumi's dishes; one tastes respect, care, craftsmanship, and balance. Perhaps most importantly, one tastes every ingredient, and one tastes the role that every ingredient plays in the whole of one's ramen experience. As I explored the menu, as I tasted each element in my bowl, I found myself, again and again, noticing the quality of each element I tasted. The karaage is crisp, juicy inside, and its notes of melting fat aren't lost, even against a spicier base. The tonkotsu is silky upon the tongue, the shio clean but not at all simple, a subtle medley of salt, chicken, and the transparency needed to let the more delicate elements like the cilantro and bean sprouts express themselves, even as the fresh garlic and bonito express themselves more assertively. Oksumi's care and attention to balance encourages one to see these simple, elemental forms of ramen not as "basic" in the slightest, but as works of art expressed in their own whitespace. Approach the shio here not with the need for every space to be filled. This dish is a culinary Gokui no Uta. If you think there is something, there is nothing; if you think there is nothing, there is something. Over a fragile moment with calamari, in which I reflected that I had never once tasted a rubbery or greasy piece of squid at Oksumi, and in fact, had never tasted a *better* piece of squid, not even in my years on the California coast, it really came home for me. Oksumi is a place in which I stopped consuming, and started appreciating the "something-there." I wandered the menu, from tonkotsu black garlic (a flavor hurricane) to simple shio and the robustness of vegetarian Nagoya-style ramen, and let myself dissolve into the moment, into the Kai, the "something-there" that manifests when one's mind stops playing with its expectations and assumptions, and simply experiences. My happiest moments, as a diner, happen when a meal silences my unreasonable, arrogant, chattering mind, and brings me to a lighted door of experience somewhere between the late Leonard Cohen's semi-contrition and the late Anthony Bourdain's quiet confessionals in moments of being a stranger at a table. Again and again, I return to Oksumi, to understand what ramen *is*, and to humble my difficult, noisy mind to a level of quiet that can appreciate the Kai, the "something-there" that appears only when the mind is still, quiet, and allows itself to experience without a commentary track of judgment. Calling Oksumi "simple" is the highest praise one can pay it. Its ramen does not *need* adornment because its ramen is as adorned as ramen might ever need to be. Your attention is the substrate upon which Oksumi's elemental, straightforward ramen expresses itself. This place is an underrated treasure.
