I have never worked with such an incompetent company before in my life. I placed my initial order…read moreon January 2nd, and got no response. I finally got tired of waiting and followed up on January 16th, finally getting a response that the translation was being done. On the 22nd I received an email saying my translation was finished with a link to their customer portal. No one had told me anything about the portal and I had no idea how to get into it, so I emailed back asking how I could get into the portal on the 23rd. Again, I got no response. I went about trying to figure out the portal myself and once I finally got in, I couldn't download the document. I followed up my previous email on the 27th stating that I was having issues downloading the document. The response I received had their guide to the portal attached, which was completely useless by the way because it only had directions for submitting request not for downloading documents. They also claimed in the email that they had sent this useless document before, which they hadn't, suggesting that I was the issue not their system. When we finally spoke on the phone they still clearly thought I was the issue and were incredibly condescending to me, talking me through the process like I was a 99 year old who was looking at a computer for the first time. After that walk through we confirmed what I had initially told them, which was the site wasn't working, and they finally emailed me the document. The document needed multiple revisions, basically half the translation needed to be fixed, and when I finally received the revised version the downloadable file on their portal was just translations of the notes we had sent them to fix, not the actual finished document! Big help there. The word doc they finally sent after all this was the version we needed but I'll have to spend hours fixing the formatting that was completely ruined in the translation. This version also contains two nearly blank pages due to messed up formatting. I'd ask them to fix it, but it's become clear that this company is more trouble than it's worth. I will happily spend hours fixing the document so I no longer have to deal with their incompetence. I have about 8 similar documents I need translated into Chinese, Spanish, and Russian but they will not be getting that business. I have never had such a horrible customer service experience with a vendor as I have had with MHMS. They don't communicate with their customers, their responses are always slow and inadequate, and their condescending tone whenever they make a mistake is disgusting. I will never use MHMS again and I will make sure everyone I know is told to steer clear of this company as well. Seriously, thanks for nothing.

Marco is well educated and knowledgable in German; a native German speaker who has also lived in America for a very long time. He culturally aware of the norms in both Europe and America. This was helpful because he prepared me for what I my new life would be like. Gave me words that I would my first weeks in Europe and prepared me for a European language classroom setting. Without taking this course I would have been lost my first days of school and unable to communicate effectively with my new family. He prepared me for the A1 exam which would end up being a requirement for my visa (which I did not know at the time) and communicated effectively with Bridge Learning Staff to explain my individual needs. A very compassionate instructor who was very understanding of my circumstances. I was also very impressed with the professionalism of the staff. While I was only to sign up for German lessons during that time, they did not cancel my class. Whenever I needed paperwork or anything from the school they provided prompt and effective responses to my problems. Overall, they did an excellent job and did the best they could to prepare me for the future life. While my experience is only with Marco and the staff; I believe any instructor that they employ will be effective instructors and will give a very personable experience. The school is on the first floor and is handicap accessible. It is located downtown and makes the location very easy to get to.

I looked at a variety of immersion programs because my 11-year-old granddaughter wanted to learn Spanish and I wanted to improve my ability in Spanish. Four things about Common Ground International that stand out: the extensive and excellent pre-departure work required and facilitated by CGI staff; the excellence of teachers and teaching environment at the Lapa Verde Language School in Costa Rica; the suberb leaderships of CGI staff while in Costa Rica; and the excellence of excursions which provided a balance to the intensive classes as well and great cultural/historical learnings about Costa Rica.

From the moment you enroll, program founders Leslie and Rory provide warm, personalized support--whether you're an absolute beginner or already fluent in Spanish. Their humility, kindness and genuine respect for each student's level create an atmosphere of confidence and growth. What sets Common Ground International apart is its thoughtfully balanced combination of rigorous classroom study, hands-on volunteer projects, culturally rich excursions, and the option of a local homestay. In the classroom, you'll be constantly challenged by enthusiastic, positive instructors who employ interactive methods--role plays, debates, community interviews--to push your Spanish forward every hour of every day. Outside the classroom, you'll deepen your understanding of local life by working alongside community organizations, exploring vibrant markets, and sharing meals with host-families who open their homes--and their hearts--to you. Throughout your stay, Leslie and Rory oversee every detail, from airport pickup to your final farewell, ensuring that logistics never get in the way of learning. Their commitment to a family-style atmosphere means you're never traveling or studying alone; you rapidly build friendships with classmates and locals alike, forging bonds that outlast the program itself. By the end of my experience, my confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing Spanish had soared--far beyond what I'd experienced in years of classroom-only study back home. Equally important, I came away with a deep appreciation for the daily rhythms, stories and traditions of the towns where I lived and volunteered. I wholeheartedly recommend Common Ground International to anyone--student, professional or retiree--who seeks an immersive, supportive and life-changing way to master Spanish and engage meaningfully with local communities.
